Agreed, but the tendency around here is outrage over signing anyone even approaching the twilight of their career. Iginla contributed 61 pts last year, that's better than most players currently in their prime.

If we're talking rentals then my choice is Tiger Williams -
Hartnell - 32, 4.75 cap hit, 5 years remaining, 52 pts last season Umberger - 32, 4.6 cap hit, 3 years remaining, 34 pts last season (4 less games played) Philly also got a 4th round pick CBJ got the immediate upgrade and moved a guy who wanted out. Philly shed a contract that will begin to lose its value in 3 years.

We've had more vet contracts over the years so its been easier to sink players

When you give an over-ripe player a shot at the NHL you know he's getting his best chance. He's had ample time to prepare. If he doesn't cut it, it wasn't meant to be anyway. Sinking players in the minors also gives you the best contracts. They will all be deflated bc they haven't proven anything at an NHL level either. Wings have known about this for years, and are still great because of it, despite picking low every year. Damn Nill for letting the word out!

Weiss will get another shot, and I doubt Ken trades. My guess is he'll wait till FA and probably talk to the likes of Stastny and Legwand, and maybe others if their situations change.
