Out the gate, I admit I'm a Holland fan. I agree with his long-term conservative approach to the game in the cap era. I share his view on avoiding trades and overpaying. I agree that overall strategy should be quality draft acquisitions. I agree that prospects should be forced into the minors as long as possible. Where I don't agree is this whole "hockey trade" thing. He's acting old and out dated if he thinks he's going to move the guys he doesn't want (Bertuzzi, Cleary, etc.) for a guy he does want. The reality of the cap era game is it involves moving picks and prospects for the guys you want. In that sense I think he's wrong. If in his position right now, I would still play close to the vest, but I would definitely be chasing a puck moving D-man hard. A trade invloving picks and prospects. I would not be after a high profile guy like Vanek or Kesler though.

It's probably a good thing that Ehrhoff has a long contract. That could drive the price down far enough for Holly to actually make a move

Agreed. He's going to build his depth not subtract or maintain it. Ideally you have to think he wants to move lower end picks and prospects like Jensen, Paterson, 2nd round picks, etc.

My money would be on Ehrhoff if anything. Cleary need a d vet that can move the puck but also isn't bad defensively. Cheap cap hit should attract holland as well. Edlers NTC and Vans ridiculous asking prices rule him out in my book Actually wrote Cleary instead of Clearly. Shoot me.

Helm is our only bottom sizer with value and that's why we should trade him? Guess why Emmerton/Glendening/Andersson have no value to other teams? Cause they have no value here either. Moving Helm just means everyone here would ***** about our bottom 6 instead of our 2nd line center. You just trade one problem for another. Why move a proven piece and take the chance on another Weiss?
