Yeah I remember Holland saying he didn't go hard after Suter bc he thought Suter was the next Lebda. I have nothing credible too support this, but trust me I saw it somewhere, don't bother arguing with me, it's FACT Alfredsson we got for 1 year for nothing. What in gods name is there to complain about?

Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News just tweeted that Franzen says he's confident he'll be able to play by next week. Guess that 10 ton elephant lost some weight...

Oh, you mean like Nyquist? Tatar? Jurco? Why stop at 3? Sheahan, Pulkkinen, Mantha, Athanasiou, Jarnkrok.... Seems like you and KH have the same plan, go figure. I wouldn't have made that trade for Bobby Ryan. For us that would be akin to giving up Nyquist, Tatar, and a mid-level 1st rounder (Like a Mantha or Nichushkin). Those 3 pieces will collectively end up being way more valuable in the future than 1 Bobby Ryan. Ottawa was forced to pull triggers with Alfredsson leaving.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Kronwall - Ericsson Smith - DeKeyser Lashoff - Griffin ^^^^ Is not a D corp I want entering the playoffs. We are weakest at D, why would we want to make that worse by making Lashoff a regular, a rookie a regular, and giving Smith more ice time? What happens if one, or even multiple, D-men go down with injuries? We'd really be up sh**s creek then. Just cause our young forwards have flourished this season doesn't mean our young D-men will too. Case and point: Smith and Kindl. We should be trimming forwards and adding defensive depth. About Zidlicky, you're correct about his injuries. I think his injury in Minnesota a few years ago just stuck out in my mind cause he was on my fantasy team that year, other than that you're right, he's been pretty healthy. He's a great puck mover and for an offensive D-man he isn't afraid to hit at all. I just think members around here would start throwing fits about his defense... though he's no worse than Q and the gang at this point either like you said. At the end of the day, whether he were to re-sign at the end of the season with us or not, at 37 years old he's a rental. I might be willing to part with our 1st for that this year, if the draft class really is as weak as they say.

    Red Wings should target Clarkson

Clarkson and Bickell both similar big targets, both huge busts

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

On a good team Zidlicky is a 3rd line dman. He's Colaiacovo with more grit, similar injuries, and slightly better puck movement, Sorry, but moving Kindl, Quincey, and Almqvist is stupid. That's called shooting your defensive prosthetic leg in the foot.

Cup favored eastern team, ravaged by injuries, yet still in a wildcard spot. For you that equals 0.1% cup chance???? God bless LGW, it's like the circus with extra clowns.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

IMO he's nothing to write home about. We have plenty of other emerging forwards. Why add a C-lister like him? Pass

Take off ur rose colored glasses. This team is nothing without Lidstrom. We must trade everyone for cool new draft picks

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

IMO don't see any of them being available. Zidlicky and Pitkanen could be available and would be decently inexpensive rentals, unless they do well we could always re-sign them too. Both move the puck well, which I believe is what we need

    Linus Omark

Chris Nichols, via twitter, has said that Omark may be on the trading block and that Detroit may be interested. I'm not a huge fan of Omark but he has shown chemistry with Z and Brunner. However I can't see Kenny chasing another soft forward right now when we have so many. Thoughts?

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Not that I don't like Ott, I just don't see him being a player Babs wants in his system. IMO Myers is terrible and not worth what we'd have to give up for him. Buffalo wants picks and I believe Moulson will probably go for a 1st round pick straight up. If Zetterberg goes to LTIR (I believe Franzen will be back) then we could fit him in. As long as we're comfortable giving up that 1st rounder... which could be worth it. Weak draft class and we're already loaded on good prospects. I don't want to move any D-men (Kindl) either unless we're getting something at D in return. We're already too weak there.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I have no idea about NYI line combos, just heard he and Tavares were prime together. He's done a lot worse in buffalo though (not that most wouldn't) his scoring average has dropped from around 0.8 - 0.9 to about 0.6.

    Linus Omark

Glad this didn't happen, looks like he'll end up back in Europe. Refusing AHL assignment with BUFFALO.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I agree with ur line of thought. Thing is we got our main pieces when healthy: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Alfredsson, Franzen. We need complimentary players like grabner or maybe Moulson. Are they amazing? No, just look at grabners NHL season and Moulsons time in buffalo. But look at what a guy like Moulson did when he was with Tavares. He was the wrist shot to Tavares's pass and setup, and it worked extremely well. (Snow got fleeced in that trade, as always). We need to build around our already existing core, not add more high contract core players like Vanek (this isn't the no cap area where you bring in Brett hull's). And I think we're doing that with Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, and Sheahan right now. Just look at how Nyquist does next to Z. It's very much like Moulson Tavares. Is Nyquist a superstar (yet)? No, but he plays like one with Z. When healthy lines should be: Franzen-Datsyuk-Alfredsson Tatar-Zetterberg-Nyquist Sheahan-Weiss-Jurco Miller-Helm-Abdelkader The top line can stay poised and compete against any other teams top line, aka the crosbys, toews, ovechkins. 2nd line exploits Tatars and nyquists chemistry, as well as Zetterbergs and Nyquist chemistry. Bottom line is Z Carrys others like Datsyuk - while more talented - does not. Our immediate future core of Nyquist and Tatar should be playing with and learning from Z. He's our Yzerman right now. 3rd line is similar to the 2nd. Exploits Jurco and sheahans chemistry. Yet it also works for Weiss. In a 3rd line role he gets less pressure on him but also enough ice time to build his confidence. It also puts him with 2 young players, a sort of leadership role he's used to. 4th line: 3 guys with a history of chemistry together. All very speedy, all defensively superb, helm and Abby bring a slight offensive threat, and Abby brings grit. But the key is their defensive prowess. You can run them against other teams scoring lines and shut them down, giving our scoring lines better match ups against oponent lines. Of course this ignores all our current cap issues and injury problems, but i think it would be a good starting point for next year. IMO there is zero need for a "top sniper" as many here suggest. We have our forward core and the complimentary pieces are emerging quickly. The glaring need is at D. We have our #1 guy in Kronwall, a complimentary piece in Ericsson, and another emerging Ericssonesque piece in DeKeyser. The rest are just blah right now and who knows if they'll ever step up or not. If we add, we add at D. And if Smith and Kindl can't hold their own right now, I don't expect Griffins and co to hold up either. I'd add an offensive D in the offseason. Kronwall needs pressure off him in the quarterback deptarment. Even a guy like Corvo/Zidlicky would be a good bottom pairing PP specialist that we could use for puck movement while the young D transitions to the big club. Frankly, Kronwall is good, but he's not a offensive d man type guy. More than ever guys like Smith and Kindl need a Lidstrom/Rafalski or like I said a Corvo/Liles to learn from.

    If we become sellers...

With the cap and our contracts can't see us buying. Also don't see us selling either thou. Expect more of the same; nothing.
