    Lines Thread

If I was Holland this would be my roster next October Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Franzen Nyquist - Weiss - Tatar Sheahan - Helm - Abdelkader Miller - Andersson - Glendening Callahan Kronwall - Ericsson Smith - DeKeyser Kindl - Lashoff Almqvist Howard Gustavsson 1st line - Veteran scoring core 2nd line - Youth scoring core 3rd line - Everything line, speed, scoring, grit 4th line - Shutdown line, speed, grit Alfredsson - He'll be 42 next season. I'm assuming he'll retire. Jurco - He has another year on his entry level contract. Let him play one more year as the #1 call-up. This clears roster space for us to sign others who need to make the Wings next year, and it gives him less NHL stats so his agent will have less ammo when negotiating a new contract after that year. Mrazek - Also has another year on his entry level contract. Let him play one more year as the #1 starter in Grand Rapids. With the goalie injuries we've seen this year I think it would be unwise to let Gustavsson go so soon. We don't have enough depth at G to let him go. If we didn't have Monster and Howard got hurt, who would be Mrazek's back up? Coreau? Paterson? That would be scary. Tootoo - Whether we like it or not, he's not destined to be on this team. If he's not traded, he'll be bought out, or remain buried. Sheahan, Glendening, Callahan, and Almqvist - All are out of waiver options next season. Instead of overpaying for FA's I say give these kids spots, and let them work for bigger roles. Bertuzzi, Cleary, Quincey, Eaves, Samuelsson - Bye Bye When it comes down to it, I think, no matter what happens, this offseason will be about shedding contracts instead of adding FA pieces. Our prospect pool is bursting at the seams, and adding any (overpaid) FA's will mean losing some of them. Getting rid of our overpaid washed-up vets and going with this small youth influx will also leave us with around 10 - 13 million in cap space (with this roster).

Would you trade Jimmy for a top pairing dman?

Your forwards can't score a lot of goals when your D-men can't get a pass out of the zone Smith - leads our D-men in give aways (38) Kindl is #2 with 29 Kindl - leads our D-men in missed shots (45) 1.4% shooting percentage Kronwall - Ericsson Loser - DeKeyser Loser - Loser Loser If you can't generate offense you have to shut down the D zone. Smith, Kindl, Quincey, Lashoff don't play big D, they don't block a ton of shots, they don't lay a ton of hits, they are at the moment worthless. Fun Fact: Quincey is our only D-man who sees significant TOI that has more take-aways than give-aways (25 TKA, 23 GVA)

Steve Ott to possibly be moved to Detroit.

I think Howard and a first or Halak and a first is too much. I'm thinking like Howard and 2nd or 3rd. I agree Ott for our first is not a good idea. I don't think he fits into our system with his style of play, and we need shooting forwards

Has anyone else noticed a lot of too many men penalties this year? Babs has got to clean that up I think Holland and Babs r perfect for each other. They both wanna play a softer skill game.

Alfredsson 12 years ago their was no cap... you can't compare now to then

Steve Ott to possibly be moved to Detroit.

Buffalo sold Gaustad for a 1st rounder a few years ago at the deadline. IMO Ott is better than Gaus and they will probably get the same for him. Miller is equal to, if not better than, Howard. Wouldn't you expect at least a 1st for Howie? Fact is buyers always overpay at the deadline. Which is why Holland never buys at the deadline.... unless it's Quincey

    1/20 GDT: Blues 4 @ Red Wings 1

Brunner isn't doing any better than last year Right now Cammalleri is Calgary's Datsyuk, and Hudler is their Zetterberg. Happy Hudler is literally one of their go to guys. We know he can score, and in that role, with those minutes, he's doing it. Doesn't mean he's any better at D and the Flames still suck, with or without him. Filppula looks like his 2011-12 self. I believe we really got screwed by the lockout. Fil had a production setback in a weird year that also happened to be a contract year. Praying Weiss gets 100% and finds his game soon.

Oilers trade Dubnyk to Preds; Receive Scrivens from LAK

The Kings play great D. I think most goalies are going to do better than their usual in that system. When it comes to Scrivens he wasn't very good in Toronto, and despite being better in LA he lost his spot to a rookie. Edm seems to be clueless. Signing Bryzgalov. Goalie swaps. DEFENSE IS THE PROBLEM. At the end of the day the trade was basically Hendricks for a third. Will that change anything for them? No. Until they address the real issues they're going to have a system that no one can succeed in.

    1/16 GDT : Red Wings 0 at Rangers 1

Agreed. We are not the most among man games lost. But we are the most among crucial players lost, especially at one time. we've paid the devil for too long.

Oilers trade Dubnyk to Preds; Receive Scrivens from LAK

EDM is dumb. Do they really think Scrivens is better than Dubnyk? They just basically swapped Dubnyk for Dubnyk, and a 3rd rounder for Hendricks. LA won that trade thus far.

2010-2011 drafts will be our savior

Well honestly I don't really get your point of view. Waiver options or not, Callahan is 22 and Glendening is 24. Despite Callahan's recent scoring success he's also probably a career 4th liner like Glendening. Have you watched Glendening play? Not only does he have a lot of strength to throw around, but he plays with an angry fire that 99% of our roster doesn't have. I also don't expect scoring from our 4th line. It's nice when it happens, but not something that's relied upon. Glendening had been a pleasant surprise IMO. If Calllahan really does have scoring potential, let him stay in the minors and develop it and his confidence while he still has the opportunity to do so. I'd be thrilled if he really surpassed all expectations.

Oilers trade Dubnyk to Preds; Receive Scrivens from LAK

From what I hear from fans in Edmonton is that Yakupov has amazing skill, but he plays the individual game, not the team game. On this team he'd probably get 4th line minutes from Babs. Unless he gets a lot of personal coaching, he's probably the kind of guy who ends up back in Russia, sooner or later.
  19. I can see Bertuzzi re-signing if he REALLY still wants to play, but it would be for pennies. I'd put all my money on him retiring. He clearly still has that natural skill, just no gas left in the tank. I wouldn't doubt a Cleary re-signing at all. He's obviously the mentor for the NA kids we have that the Wings want, as ineffective as he might be on the ice. Not only that, but Holland is probably tooting his own horn around the office for signing him to that last minute 1 year deal for $1.75. Had the cap been different, we all know Holland would have signed him at something 2-2.5 for 3 years. Now if Holland's going to re-sign him it will be for cheaper than 1.75 and we won't have to blow years worth of money on him like we have with Sammy.

    Perspective?

Our lineup from tonight's game: 3rd liner - 1st liner - 2nd liner AHLer - AHLer - 3rd liner 4th liner - 4th liner - 4th liner 4th liner - AHLer - 4th liner top2 - top6 top6 - top4 top6 - top6 You don't win iceing that team, Red Wings or not. I know we like to blame Holland for Quincey, Cleary and Sammy... but that's not the problem at all right now. Without them we'd have even more AHLers up... AHLers that may be a lot less ready than Sheahan and Jurco are. In a way we're actually lucky right now to have extra skaters like Quincey and Cleary to fill spots, as bad as they are. If we miss the playoffs it's because Datsyuk, Helm, Franzen, Howard, Alfredsson, DeKeyser, Zetterberg missed time, not because Sammy and the lame gang played. I wouldn't consider firing Holland or Babs at the moment, we need to fire any trainers working in the injury prevention department! It's going to be beyond a shame if we blow the streak bc of this crazy injury virus, especially after we pulled through with a weaker team last season Shoulda stayed in the west

Bleacher Report: 5 positive things in the Red Wings

The fact that the OP has done this twice this morning and has used work from two different writers means he's probably neither and is just trying to take credit for their work over a community forum. Not sure if this is plagiarism or just really pathetic. Anyway, the only positive I see right now is getting healthy.

  23. Depending on what happens with Weiss, Stastny is a guy who will probably be available in June. Doubting he gets traded right now based on where Colorados at, but doubt he gets Re-signed with their C depth and his declining performance. Could buyout Weiss and chase him.
  24. Doubting NYR let's both Callahan and Girardi hit the market. If they don't find a way to keep both they'll probably choose to keep Callahan IMO. He's their C and their New York boy, and hes done better in the new system than Girardi has. Girardi would be a good addition, but I'm eyeing Matt Greene. He's a Michigan boy and will probably be available when we hit the market
  25. I think Tootoo stays buried, if he was tradeable it would have happened by now. I think everyone else walks or retires besides the inevitable Cleary re-signing. IMO I don't see any UFAs that scream Red Wings. If we make no UFA additions and let our baggage walk ill honestly be ok with that. The youngens are getting ripe.
