Of course as a 2nd line center he'll get less minutes. But he'd still get decent PP time and fill in time when Z and D are injured. Plenty of 2nd line centers have hit 70+ points (Kesler is one I can think of off the top of my head) Clearly he's not going to do that this year though. Hopefully the playoffs will be a different story for him.

In those 10 seasons he's never played a full season... 01-02 only played 7 games 02-03 rookie season, scored 21 in 77 gp 03-04 scored 29 in 50 gp (on pace for 48 pts) 05-06 scored 21 in 41 gp (on pace for 42 pts) 06-07 scored 48 in 74 gp (on pace for 53 pts) 07-08 scored 42 in 74 gp (on pace for 47 pts) 08-09 scored 61 in 78 gp (on pace for 64 pts) mind you he's only 25/26 years old at this point 09-10 scored 60 in 80 gp (on pace for 62 pts) 10-11 scored 49 in 76 gp (on pace for 53 pts) 11-12 scored 57 in 80 gp (on pace for 58 pts) 12-13 only played 17 games, injured He's hovered around 50 - 65 pt paces his entire career, on the FLORIDA PANTHERS, as their best player on the team Coming to a good team like us, it's completely reasonable to think he can hit 70 pts when healthy and comfortable

I agree, He doesn't seem 100% to me, and Babs said he didn't tell anyone how bad his wrist was hurting him. If it's still hurting him he should sit till it's 100%. Be that next year even. He's achieved 60 pts as a PANTHER multiple seasons WITH INJURY. A healthy season on a good team and I'll entertain him hitting 70 pts. The only thing crazy here is how underhwelming he's been thus far. But then again, anyone who follows hockey knows 28 games is way too low of a sample size to judge a player.

Ok, this is coming from a hardcore Plymouth Whalers fan, so bare with me. I've followed this kid since he was 16 and IMHO he's VERY good. I was beyond thrilled when he signed here (but obviously im under-thrilled at his performance thus far). He's a top line playmaker with hands and on par defensive ability. Is he gonna win the Selke? No. Is he reliable? Yes. He's not overly big or overly physical, but the dude can play. I'm not one to scapegoat, but honestly he looks injured out there. tonight he was really weak on the puck, and his wrist shot looked like something a school girl would put up. I think the wrist injury is still lingering, and even Babs said something about how Weiss covered up how bad his wrist was hurting him in the pregame. I think he should be rested, cause when he's 100% he's a 50-60 pt Panthers player. 60-70 pt wings player.

He's young, talented, and an RFA at the end of this year. Gotta think Kulikov told them he doesn't want to re-sign.

injured Zetterberg out at least 2 weeks with herniated disc

What drives me nuts is he's not a bad hockey player. You watch the games and he does almost everything right. My point being he's not a liability out there. I can't remember yelling at my tv "DAMNIT WEISS" at all really. Mostly It's "OH, so close" and crap like that. You gotta think if he keeps doing things right the luck and the bounces and the points will come. Here's to hoping that's sooner rather than later. -
My point exactly
-
Franzen - Weiss - Nyquist This is Weiss's chance to try and grab those reins again I also like the look of Franzen-Weiss (sounds like a delicious German beer no one's ever heard of)

GDT 12/1 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Senators 2, Alfredsson scores ENG

I want curly fries -
Starting to think we had the best draft class of any team this last year
-
I'd be fine re-signing Q as long as it's nothing over 2
-
Weiss for Mattias Mattias for Bertuzzi?
-
Class will be majority forwards, unless some teams mismanage some major D-dmen, which I mostly doubt
-
Unless Andersson doesnt develop. Move Miller, and play Glendening as a right wing. And That's coming from a Spartan, so you know it's good.
-
Cleary raise. Bertuzzi discount.Quincey discount, Alfie discount, Sammy discount. (If all re even re-signed) Tuzzi aint gonna retire at 38 if his favorite team offers him 1 million to play his favorite sport. Same goes for the rest of em who stay.

Goal tending is very different than skating, and much more selective in the nhl. He's barely proving he's capable of minor play at this point, don't hold ur breath.

Would I rather have Filppula at the moment? Unfortunately yes, however I think Weiss will pay off in the long run.

All facts aside, TOI, linemates, I dont care, dont bother.. Weiss HAS the talent to be an amazing 2nd line, and even decent 1st line center. Weiss came from spending his entire career with a team that has arguably the worst team, the worst coaching, the worst management, the worst ownership. Now he's been catapulted into arguably one of the best teams, with the best coaching, the best management, and the best ownership. Pressure on? Adjustment necessary? I'd expect so. Filppula... that little bugger who I still love with every inch of my Red Wing soul... came from one of the best teams, with arguably the best management, ownership, and coaching. Now he's with a lack luster team that emphasizes offense out of its forwards and he's exploded. Big fish in a small pond? Are any of us really that surprised? He's had that level of offensive upside for years. If you told Zetterberg to play the way Lightning skaters play he'd have a load more points too. Would he be a better hockey player because of it? I personally don't think so. Let's see how things go. I think the lighting's high times will slow soon now that Stamkos is injured and they still have no goalie. We aren't even that far behind and we still can't possibly do worse. No where to go but up!

As much as I hate Bettman he's under direction of the owners, and the owners seem to be particularly greedy in my book (granted they're operating a niche sport that makes less money, so they have to skimp when they can). Buttman and co's dealings have almost always benefited the pocket books of the owners and have done the opposite of growing the sport, despite his claims, IE Atlanta moving to WPG and PHX soon to be moved back north among a million other things. If the NHL's owners wanted to grow the sport they would hire a hockey guy. If the NHL owners wanted to profit off of our undying devotion to our popularly irrelevant teams, they would have hired Bettman. Guess who still has that job.
-
Niccccccce. Now when Weiss gets bought out and Zetterberg has to center the 2nd line they can both have Franzines on their wings! (Good thing negs are gone lol)
-
Nastasiuk also playing. Team OHL.
-
Del Zotto is more of a forward than a D-man. He's got hands and a shot and has crazy fast wheels, but makes a lot of mistakes and is poor defensively.
-
After re-signing all our young players (and Cleary) It's looking like we'll have something like 8-12 million left over, depending on the different contacts. Unfortunately that 8-12 will probably be split between Alfredsson, Bertuzzi, and Quincey
-
Well if that's the case, we have just 3 more spots to fill than they do, and we'll have 25 million in cap room. Compared to their 6 million we'll have a much better opportunity to chase someone big to bolster our top 6 and Defense corps
-
Well this summer CHI will have 3 forward spots to fill, plus a back up goal-tending spot to fill, with just over 500K in cap space available.
