I hope he's the one forced purely based on his terrible nickname, "emdog"

    Brunner Contract Talks

I believe the quote was something along the lines of "Brunner is looking elsewhere" basically indicating he's talking to other teams now, not the red wings. moving on.

who's on their way out of Detroit

They can't be called up? They have to start with the Red Wings and then be sent down? If so, that's good news to me.

who's on their way out of Detroit

I can't wait for our starting Griffins line up to be: Nyquist - Andersson - Tatar, so that I can watch LGW explode with Holland hatred

    Brunner Contract Talks

Don't know if this has been posted but a few days ago Mailk was tweeting quotes from Holland that said Brunner was seeking employment outside of Detroit. I'm guessing Kenny told him there's no room at his price. No I'm not going to dig through my twitter to find those quotes.

    is anyone happy right now?

It would have likely been Tatar/Nyquist a first and Jurco. Wouldn't be surprised if it was both Nyquist and Tatar and a first. Silverberg and Noesen are both top flight prospects

    is anyone happy right now?

So the team essentially looks like this... Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Franzen - Weiss - ?????????? ??????? - Helm - ?????????? ??????? - Andersson - ?????? Kronwall - Ericsson Kindl - Quincey Smith - DeKeyser Lashoff Howard Gustavsson It's going to be fun watching who earns that last top6 spot. I think Tatar, Nyquist, Bertuzzi, and Sammy all have a legit shot at it. I see a lot of lines with Abby in the top6 but IMO that's not going to happen. I think the only reason he was with Dats and Z in the playoffs was cause all our other big bodies were hurt. I also think Sammy is going to surprise people if he avoids injury. He produced with Vancouver and Florida and I don't see any reason why he can't again here if he can stay healthy.

    2013 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

People need to remember that we basically got Bertuzzi for free.... Obviously a pick they wanted, so they took him a little early and guaranteed picking him up. Is supposed to be a nasty aggitator

Well that's pretty much what I'm saying. I always understood the formula was lock down your talented core and then put size and strength around them to compliment them

    2013 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

We selected a big-bodied sniper and multiple grinder/aggitator types. Along with a pair of big nasty defensive dmen. These are the kind of pieces you add when preparing for a cup run. First you have to have your core of solid G and talented Fs and Ds. Then you add a few gritty and sizeable players and boom your a cup contending team. If Holland is adding physicality and grit, he must think we're like 3 or 4 years from a serious cup run. It also means he's probably happy with the level of skill on the big club and farm already. Of course I'm completely speculating Plus dont forget the 2 Swedish sleepers

Red Wings select RW Anthony Mantha 20th Overall

He said he's determined to make the team next year. Won't happen but it's good to see he's determined.

Changing of the guard leads to new philosophy?

Being big upfront has been an obvious need of ours http://thehockeywriters.com/detroit-red-wings-potential-draft-targets/ Not necessarily a philosophy change

    Edler is on the block?

Doubting he gets traded. But have heard the so called experts/insiders on twitter suggesting that Edler won't mix well with Torts and could be traded bc of it

Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?

Kindl, E, Kronners, and DeKeyser are our only solid D. None of them are going anywhere

Wings looking to trade before using buyouts

The toughness in the East is completely overrated. People act like the east is full of goons that will crush us. There is little to no difference.

    2013 Offseason Thread

Weiss has had 2 wrist injuries over 10 NHL seasons. With those 2 injuries he missed 72 games, and has played in 654 NHL games. He's injured roughly 9% of the time. Weiss is not "always hurt". Everything I've read says he's got incredible defensive smarts, and because of that he doesn't take a lot of penalties and is not necessarily skating around like a loose cannon leveling everyone. I doubt he's "gentle", just responsible.
