I'm thinking the exact same thing. Nyquist is of the Zetterberg/Datsyuk mold, however he's worse than them. So to me, Tatar is the better option. He brings something we dont already have. He's of a very different mold that I can't quite pin down. I don't know what it is, but I like it. Very well rounded, very tenacious, very hungry.

IMO, having Datsyuk and Zetterberg means we need big bodies and elite scorers to compliment them. That's why Franzen and Bertuzzi work well in our system, and why Hudler and Filppula do not. Mule and Bert can at least bring the big body. Hudler and Filppula are both small not elite scorers. Unless they grow, or slap pucks like hull or federov, they don't belong in a top 6 with elite set up men like z and d

I pretty much agree with u kip. A trade of any kind is unlikely right now IMO, but I would keep Tatar. Tatar is about at the same level as Nyquist, and is younger. He also plays a more well rounded game IMO. Nyquist honestly strikes me as Hudler/Filppula 3.0

Haha I kno I kno. I just figure holland is more likely to hold them down and wait for injury before he plays them full time. We do have abundance at every position -

Filppula and Weiss are pretty much identical in my book, except Weiss has the track record and has proved he can hold down a top line, let alone a 2nd line. Flips hasn't really proved that yet, and hopefully he does cause I doubt holland would trade out Val for Weiss I think Holland is much more likely to trade for the rights to Matthias than he is for Weiss

When it comes to centers I believe you want primarily speed and defensive ability. Because you have to cover more areas of the ice and have to protect the high slot on d. Big slow guys I'd would want on the wing

Good lord. A player you build a team around is a #1 guy, not a #3 caliber guy who happens to be playing the #1 spot because there's no one ahead of him. I understand your points but its irrelevant to the original argument.

If I had to pick keeping Filppula or trading him out for Weiss, I pick Weiss. Of course it depends on whatever assets are involved though

yeah and Edmonton built there's around Justin Schultz... but that doesn't make him a foundational player. Just means they don't have one at defense.

I'm guessing he's referring to Clarkson or Horton I agree, but he doesn't really have a history of injury. He's had 2 wrist injuries over 8 seasons.
