Trading for negotiating rights always seems wasteful to me, but we don't really need more prospects or draft picks right now so I say acquire those rights with a few picks.
-
.....? they're not just gonna magically come up with the cash/cap space. They'd have to severely hurt the depth of their team in order to keep him.....No one player is worth that. Fact is he could stay but it's more likely than not he'll be playing somewhere else next season.
-
Commodore, Quincey, White, Brunnstrom.....though I agree that we are undersized in the bottom 6, and under gritty Doesn't matter that theyre in the finals, their cash situation will most likely not permit them to resign him to the big contract he'll command.
-
I was agreeing with him, not mocking him. Was trying to mock those who hate our prospects because theyre young and unproven, yet they think we should trade for the prospects of other teams....sorry to confuse.
-
I've noticed that a lot of the bad franchises fans dont freak out that much....i think theyre either used to being bad, or the only diehard fans they have left are the extreme optimists lol Of course on the other end of the spectrum the sites/fans of good franchises tend to be a lot more melt down prone....People just get spoiled by success and expect to be in the cup finals every year, and when theyre not, they panic and freak out....It's expected. That being said though LGW is one of the best....of course we have our chicken littles too, but most of the fans here can keep a cool head like Kenny. Praise LGW!!!! No good team should be freaking out this year. New Jersey and LA made it. People should finally be realizing that in the playoffs....anything can happen.

Not what we thought, It happens. Looked great in the OHL but has never been able to perform in the AHL. Just goes to show that being a 1st round pick doesn't mean anything.

1. The numbers: The numbers of all our 'core' or 'star' players (including Yzerman/Shanahan/Chelios/Hull/Hasek/ect.) are and have been falling in past years save for Zetterberg. 2. IMO, there are no prospects with real star potential to replace these guys that are getting older and watching their production fall. I think Datsyuk is the closest thing to that and even he could be a bust. And even if he makes something of himself, is it going to be Sergei Fedorov something? Not likely. 3. It all starts and stops with Yzerman for me. I think his retirement (be it this year or the next) is going to be the beginning of the end of our ten year run. It always seems to me that when Stevie goes, we go. He's the leader of this team without question and it's going to be hard to compensate for the loss of him.

Yeah all our young players are unproven. We cant rely on them. We need some other teams young players (cause other teams always have better young players than us)....We should trade all our established players (who we can rely on) for some other teams young unproven players. Once this happens our team will be young again, and then we'll win the cup. Cause age wins cups.

average to slightly above average players? wings players? blasphemy. "not much of anything has changed in rankings besides i think Calgary's prospect pool moving up 4 spots and Boston moving up a few spots."
-
I'll be ignoring this since were having the exact same conversation on a different thread.....

http://www.hockeyprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=1012 Detroit #1 and Minnesota #13, but its 2011 which I'm sure you'll be mad about. "Hockey Futures" hasn't changed if that's what your referring to, because not much of anything has changed in rankings besides i think Calgary's prospect pool moving up 4 spots and Boston moving up a few spots. I wouldn't use the boards.
-
I dont use the HF boards.....off to pull up some sources for you
-
hence why i said "not that they know anything about hockey"....there the only ones who put Minny in the top 15 And no, Im referring to 2011-2012 post season rankings....so yeah....
-
Not true. Unless you consider 2011-2012 post season ranking "old"
-
Yeah you also wrote up an opinion praising Minnesota for having a ton of great prospects who are gonna really help their team.....yet our prospect pool is ranked higher than theirs by experts and scouts....sooooo are Minnesota's prospects good, and ours are just as good if not better? Or do you wanna reverse your opinion on Minnesota and say we both have bad prospect pools?.....Or do you just think you somehow have a better opinion/knowledge than the professionals? P.S. telling me you wrote up a big comment about your opinion on our prospects "somwhere" doesn't help me find it....This thread? Another Thread?....you dont have to re-type either....I believe copy/paste still exists lol
-
LOL our prospect pool is ranked higher than Minnys....The wild's prospect pool isn't even ranked among the top 15 Edit: did a little more digging and found that ESPN (not that they know anything about hockey) has Minnys prospect pool ranked among the top 15.....yet they still had the wings farm ranked higher
-
I just think it's a silly that you think that might be his top priority.....of course its not lol its just all he can do until July 1st. Be patient.

Wait wait wait...so if we play the draft game we'll become the dead wings again, but then if we just continue to play the draft game once were dead, we'll move back up? hmmmmm.... You do realize plenty of superstars are not 1st overall picks, or even top 10 picks.....many top 10 picks never pan out to be superstars. YOU DONT NEED HIGH PICKS TO DRAFT WELL. You just need superior scouting, which we have! If teams could go back and redraft knowing what everyone knows now (and we already knew back then) then half the guys on our team would have gone in the top 20 of their draft classes. Yeah other teams play the prospect/draft game like we do, but not to the extent or with the success rate that we have. You use what you got....and we got better scouting and better development than pretty much every other franchise out there. and u do realize that the only prospects on the OP's list that are under 20 are Jurco (19) and Ouellet (18) For a guy that thinks it's "too early to tell" with our prospects, you seem pretty convinced that were gonna go down the gutter if we rely on them. Of course I know some of them will never reach anywhere close to where they are projected, but I also know some will go beyond where they are projected...The Kronwalls, Filppulas, Franzens, Hudlers, Ericssons, Helms, Abdelkaders, Quinceys, Kopeckys, and Howards will continue to slip through the cracks....and we will continue to add the pieces we don't have readily available through trades and FA's.....One thing Holland won't do is waste our already valuable prospects to trade up in the draft so that we can acquire the next possible Daigle of the world.
-
Had to go blue adams on everybody haha....this is my best case scenario for 7 years in the future...assuming we had zero FA's of course Nyquist - Jarnkrok - Jurco Tatar - Filppula - Sheahan Tvrdon - Helm - Eaves Miller - Andersson - Abdelkader Emmerton Mursak Smith - White Quincey - Ouellet Ericsson - Sproul Marchenko Kindl Howard Mrazek
-
I've heard a lot of speculation that Jarnkrok is the next Zetterberg....obviously too soon to tell but I like that the potential is there. As of right now Sheahan is a projected 3/4th liner....when the wings took him though I was under the impression that they thought he could have some real offensive potential if it could be developed, and in the best case scenario we turn him into another Franzen.
-
175? Nyquist is 185 lbs.... and will likely put on at least 10 more pounds as he gets older, he's only 22. He'll most likely end up about the same size as Helmer, Z, and Dats.... Really surprised by this kid. 2 years ago he didn't look like anything to me. Good 5th round choice by the wings if he stays healthy you may be spot on
-
Nyquist - ? - ? Tatar - Jarnkrok - Jurco ? - Sheahan - ? ? - ? - ? ? - Smith ? - Ouellet ? - ? ? Mrazek Pulkkinen gets traded for not working hard enough
-
...Overestimating what? Just so you know it usually helps if you explain yourself or offer evidence/support for arguments....if you even have any for whatever point your trying to make...
-
Almost forgot about Conner and Brunnstrom (did we give up on them yet?)
-
Kindl looked like he had so much potential in the OHL...played with a lot of fire and spark...right now he seems pretty irrelevant and below average. I'm not completely sold though. Q has played in well over double the amount of NHL games Kindl has and big E's slow progress gives me hope.....I mean the kid did look VERY promising in the OHL, not giving up yet. Definitely should be exploring all options like you say....we all know Holland's not just gonna throw money at big names, while other teams will.....though I believe the rumor is Suter has been turning down big money from Nashville. If that's true, hopefully he'll be looking to win cups somewhere like here and won't just be looking for a big pay day
