Players will leave for nothing just like with Filppula and Hudler. Holland and Babs will squeeze every last drop out of them, and then when their contracts are up they will re-sign the ones they like and let the others walk. Trading those players for low end picks before all that could be beneficial, but when you draft like we do it isn't really necessary. Let em overripe and give them every chance to earn a spot, if they don't: Let em walk. -

Starting to lose a lil faith in Smith myself. He probably has better years ahead of him, but I don't see that being anything better than a #4 D-man at this point. He's not shown he's particularly good on any side of the puck, and he's been with the team longer than most of our young talent. He and Kindl both have not lived up to their hype.

I feel like we've been saying this for years. IMO the glaring hole is at at D. I think an addition there would be more than enough. The top 6 has Datsyuk, Zberg, Tatar, and Nyquist holding it down, plus more than a few guys who can rotate in. The D has Kronwall. DK steady, just doesn't contribute offensively as I'd like.
