  1. goddamn it just cant set up
  2. So you think it's smart to run a business by - not just making your employee the highest paid of that type of employee - throwing uneeded extra money at him bc "we're hockey town, look how much bigger our muscles are?" Not only is that economically backwards, but him signing that contract would literally give us the biggest "financal muscles" in terms of coaches lol. I want my team to spend all it can to be the best it can be, but not overpay for no reason lol. Can we agree that offer was no where near a lowball yet?
  3. Well he's demanding more, and Holland offered him pretty close to that in the first place anyway. So you're both probably going to get your wish that he makes more than Holland. I couldn't care who he makes more than. I still don't understand how you think it's a low ball. He's going to be the highest paid coach in the league even if Babs comes down a little.
  4. Uhhhh by the sounds of it they're pretty close to a deal. Am I missing something? They're barely off on financials, and off on term by just one year. How is that a low ball? They offered a mirror contract of Holland's. That's a pretty fair place to start negotiations IMO. Also wouldn't that deal make him one of the highest paid coaches in the entire league?

Eklund: (Haha, I know, but) Toronto/San Jose

Really? He had a down year last year (still scored 30 pts), but other than that he's always been pretty darn good. He's big, nasty, and produces in the O-zone. I think he'd be a major asset on any team in this league. He'd easily become the number 1 D-man in SJ right away IMO. Vlasic is smart in the D-zone, but wayyyy less physical and produces a whole lot less in the O-zone.

How many great years does Thornton realistically have in him though? Phaneufs got much more

But how we will get McDavid or Eichel if we don't tank? HOW???

slava voynov suspended after domestic violence arrest

I don't think so. It's likely his suspension will just remain indefinite and he'll jump to the KHL.

Myers close to become a wing?

To Wisniewski's defense, I believe he's living up to that contract. He's among the best playing at the point.

    Your hockey-rituals before season openers

Off the record, Canada has the best national anthem IMO. Just plain fun to sing. Always wished it was Oh America instead. Now that I've admitted that it's mandatory that I insult the shinyness of your money and also you say about funny Murica

Sheesh, you guys need to elect a better president than Rob Ford then.

    Weiss

I'm delighted you took my comment this way. At the same time, I have no idea what's going on with Weiss. I've followed him his entire career and I'm extremely disappointed with his present self. I personally think Florida has been vastly overrated (I know, hard to believe) they have basically been running a beer-league NHL team. Weiss was there number 1 center, but unless he can learn he's probably at best our number 3 center here. that's the conclusion ive drawn. At the same time he could be a great top 6 center if he breaks this s***ty mold hes in. i believe its in him

10/18 GDT - Maple Leafs 0 at Red Wings 1 (OT)

This is coming from a Weiss fan. (I followed him as a Plymouth Whalers fan). He's the type of player who should be elevating his wingers. Not the other way around. It was understood that he elevated Booth and Sammy when they were with Florida. He was their Zetterberg when he was in Florida, and was very much the leader in Juniors. I think he should have better wingers than Nest and Helm, but he should also be playing better when saddled with Nest and Helm. Disappointed Weiss fan.

you mean the Leafs. thank god they exist or we would surely be them. we're not the yankees, we are the red sox. We had our drought and now we're decently good.

Jeff Petry; trade between us and oilers

He has. But, trading for Petry would be exactly what your saying though. A move for the sake of making a move. This team won't be much better if it happens.

10/18 GDT - Maple Leafs 0 at Red Wings 1 (OT)

Because everyone loves our garbage. Also, Tyler Myers is probably the most overrated (by fans outside of Buffalo) D-man on the market

Jeff Petry; trade between us and oilers

When considering trading for Jeff Petry, change the word Petry to Quincey and then reevaluate the trade. He is a poor mans Defensive D-man, just like Quincey.

Myers close to become a wing?

No kidding. He literally avoids hitting players. Really. Everyone sees his measurements and just assumes he is or is going to be a physical defensive Dman. He's not. He's john michael liles, only with more to look at.

    Weiss

Yes but you're comparing apples to oranges. A guy who grew under Babocks tutelage and one who is still relatively a newcomer. This could very well be Babcock showing Weiss, that despite his stature, despite his injury, he must earn every second of ice time.

    Weiss

I'm sure he thought after last season he would be on the opening night roster. He didn't get that benefit of the doubt from Babs. That's what lights fires. Not: it wasn't my fault, I was injured.

    Weiss

Gotta think this is lighting fires under Weiss. He's in what should be some prime years, especially after escaping Florida (I know they chose not to re-sign, that's still escaping that terrible franchise in my book). He's back where his career started. I'm sure he wants to prove to Babs more than ever at this point that he can perform.
