Signed Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**
number9 replied to amato's topic in General
The point is they may have made good moves thus far, but they have no track record yet. That's why I said they were up and coming. All their careers as GM's are brand new. All three may destroy their teams with dumb mistakes in the next 10 years, we don't know. Guys like Chiarelli have lengthier proven track records. That's a guy I trust. And that's why I wouldn't include Nill, Yzerman, and Sakic within the real elite... yet. I personally don't like a lot of the moves Yzerman has made honestly. Nill does seem to be the best so far to me. -

How does Nill get a pass in your book, but not Sakic? I still think Yzerman is pretty green as well. -

He's done very well up until 2010 though. Since he's gone with some lower risk trades and FA's, but he's done a great job, IMO, maintaining while building the farm. Even if you count him out of the top 10, i'd say he's still right there at number 11. Edit: Good job, not great -
Just paid a visit to letsgosharks... It's very similar to here actually. Lots of frustration. The level headed fans realize that they're still a very good team though. Apparently Mclellan said "our toughness is our power play" lol I almost died laughing. Right out of the Wings textbook haha. I'm sure there is, I only glanced at the "rumor"
-
From the looks of it they are in complete blow up mode. Fire Mclellan. Get something for Thornton and Marleau while we still can. That whole deal. They also seem to be talking about a Marleau for Marchand trade based on a rumor from the spring.
-
My guess is they want another Dman
-
I wasn't suggesting they're going to retire tomorrow. Just that they're axing their vet core instead of letting them age with the team.

IMO the elite GM's out there are Bowman, Armstrong, Bob Murray, Holland, Lombardi, Chiarelli, and for pure personal opinion Maloney (he's done a lot with a little). And the up and comers are Yzerman, Nill, Kekalainen, and Sakic. That's 6 elite GM's not counting Maloney (5 if don't count Holland, which I know some of you probably won't) And 4 possible near future elites give or take. The point I'm trying to get at is there's about 10 real good GM's in this league, and even if you count Holland out of that 10, he's still very close to it. To not extend him and go with a wildcard would be insanity at this point in time. Maybe if we still had Yzerman and/or Nill we could afford letting him walk, but not now, bc we certainly arn't going to be able to poach one of the other elites out there and there's no one else available that's comparable (I think Shero sucks). -
I very much think they're trying a rebuild on the fly. The only difference is we are already a few years into ours, and they are just starting theirs this year. Also, we are going the classy route and letting our core retire here. They are not. Albeit, of their vet core (Thornton, Marleau, Boyle) only Marleau is a career Shark and that group never brought the team a cup, unlike our Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall core. So they let Boyle go, and are now probably trying to trade Thornton, so they can pass the torch to the new core of Pavelski, Couture, and Vlasic. This last season seemed to have been their old groups last chance before they were ready to commit to a retool.

Oh god I forgot Marleau used to be captain too

Trial date set in Steve Moore’s lawsuit against Todd Bertuzzi
number9 replied to WingsAlways's topic in General
IMO this was always a freak accident. Sure Bertuzzi shouldn't have thrown the cheap shot, but there are plenty of on-par or worse cheap shots that have been thrown in the NHL. The only difference is this one happened to end with the unthinkable. The result was certainly not Bertuzzi's intention, just like no player intends to end a career when they go airborne on a hit, or throw an elbow, or slam a head into the boards, or uppercut an opponents face. The intent is always to harm, but never this. The problem is 1/somelargenumber end up like this. That's the reality of fast contact sports that condones fighting. I hope that moore can get what he needs, but I also don't think that Bertuzzi should be burned at the stake for his actions. This has been hashed out a million times, but It's late and I've been drinking. -
IMO, and this is coming from a spoiled Red Wing standpoint, once you give a guy a C you mark him as that for his career. You don't take it back and you don't trade him (Unless things go horribly wrong). If you do either of those you probably shouldn't have given that guy a C in the first place, or you should have just rolled with 3 A's. I personally think they should have just let him keep it until they trade him. If I was him I'd be pissed if my C was stripped from me and handed to Pavelski near the end of my career, and as they continue to expect the best from me.

Datsyuk makes up for ppg in intangibles. No one out there can deke like he does, or steal pucks like he does. He's like the perfect possession player.

Everyone can you still you read that your wrote "Thought" as can I. You also said "mostly" about numbers as well, which pretty much shows ur not trying to make it a "fact". Not trying to change anyone's argument.... I'll be more careful with what I highlight from now on jeez
-
Defense is arbitrary, all I was trying to do was avoid discussing that.
-
bc I was referencing your statement about numbers and not defense. It didn't change your argument at all.
-
I thought that goofy lookin giraffe guy on the bruins had the record?
-
It's probably my fault, I brought up the old one
-
Larionov, Neely, and Bure would like to say hello. Datsyuk will most likely have more pts than Forsberg by the end of his career.
-
Just watched all 69 minutes and 14 seconds of this at work. I'll blame you SOW when I'm unemployed.

I predict Franzen spends the year on the 4th line. Babcock leaves for Pittsburgh. Datsyuk retires early for Russia. And Jurco still can't crack the lineup cause of Cleary!!! Oh that Cleary...

AND ON THE TOP LINE TO BOOT!!!
