9/28 Exhibition GDT: Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks

Started out way too tremulous. I don't think we had possession in the offensive zone until our powerplay, but we definitely stepped it up afterward. -

I just finished reading Robert B. Cialdini's Influence, and I could not help but think that the recent suicides could be attributed to the Werther effect. From Influence: "The story of the Werther effect is both chilling and intriguing. More than two centuries ago, the great man of German literature, Johann von Goethe, published a novel entitled Die Leiden des jungen Werthers (The Sorrows of Young Werther). The book, in which the hero, named Werther, commits suicide, had a remarkable impact. Not only did it provide Goethe with immediate fame, but it also sparked a wave of emulative suicides across Europe. So powerful was this effect that authorities in several countries banned the novel. Professor Phillips's own work has traced the Werther effect to modern times. His research has demonstrated that immediately following a front-page suicide story the suicide rate increases dra-matically in those geographical areas where the story has been highly publicized. It is Phillips's argument that certain troubled people who read of another's self-inflicted death kill themselves in imitation. In a morbid illustration of the principle of social proof, these people decide how they should act on the basis of how some other troubled person has acted." "... the imitators should be most likely to copy the suicides of people who are similar to them. The principle of social proof states that we use information about how others have behaved to help us determine proper conduct for ourselves." "Evidently, the principle of social proof is so wide-ranging and powerful that its domain extends to the fundamental decision for life or death. Professor Phillips's findings have persuaded me of a distressing tendency for suicide publicity to motivate certain people who are similar to the victim to kill themselves because they now find the idea of suicide more legitimate." Very interesting (and at times, disturbing) read.

Really proud of the boys. We had so much to overcome in this series it was ridiculous. We are without one of our top playoff performers and trying to do what only three teams have ever done. On top of that we lose two top six forwards in game 7 and still make it close as hell to the end. In game 6 without Clowe, SJ had to move guys around and got absolutely dominated. If he doesn't play game 7 and then they also lose two of their top six forwards in the middle of the game, no way they win this. All the odds were against us and we still almost pulled it off against a much healthier team.

Bad period, but the third has been the game saver for us. Even if we go down 4-0 I think we still got it in the third.

I've been using the blue CCM vector sticks for a while now and I remember a couple years ago they stopped making them. I was still able to find some left in stock at certain stores, but I really do not see them around anymore. Did anyone else use those sticks, and what are you using now that they are no longer manufactured? I think they were pretty popular, especially the Thornton curve.

Wow. Just amazing. A full 60 minute effort - loved every second except that worrisome 6 minute segment when we were down a goal. What we learned from this game: keep Datsyuk and Fil together, Joe Thornton is an immature captain - stop acting like a 20 year old crosby.

Lol very good. Where were all the "fans" who claimed we didn't have to worry about defense or offensive depth this series because Howard would steal games for us? We were all verrrry confident in Mr. Howard this year, as I recall.
-
I love our collective defensive mindset.
-
Yeah sorry guys, we look like we gave up already.
-
So, with datsyuk injured now, can we pretty much only rely on Helm's line to score?
-
This team cannot play position to save their lives.
-
Our puck possession is a joke, can't catch passes. Oh boy, more penalties.
-
Just glad we didn't get swept. One game at a time boys
-
Maybe babs is a genius after all, who the f*** puts those guys out there in a situation like this?
-
Niemi is not good, this is ridiculous.
-
LOL at the bert attempt to hit, so floaty.
-
We may still be able to win this, but just out of pure luck. Who can have confidence with this team right now? I feel sick if this is the game we go out on.
-
Following behind the net to leave a man open, great.
-
Why do we give up so easily? First period was awesome and now we're not even trying...

Refs saving it up to lay it on us in the third, we need more goals.
