.... I would wait until we get more detailed reports on the states of Dre' Bly and Shaun Rogers before making any statements like that...

While I agree that the defense should've come up with a stop in the final minutes of the game, I'm not going to get *too* hard on Holt for the blown coverage on Proehl on the TD. The Panthers ran the same play that they had earlier during the game (and on that drive) -- that little cut across the middle of the zone where Proehl was finding room past the DL and under the linebackers... Only on the TD play, Proehl wasn't the one cutting across the line. When the ball was snapped Holt bit on that player (loathe to be beaten again by that play) and that gave Proehl, on his route, to get wide open. That's just great playcalling... Kind of a novelty around these parts, isn't it? And speaking of that TD play... did Weinke even get it off before the playclock expired? It was close, either way...

It's kind of funny, when you think of it, since the majority of the football pundits pegged the Lions as to having one of the top offenses in the NFL and the *defense* as being the weak link. Ha!

Musings: - I f'ing love this defense. It's pure smash-mouth football out there and those guys KILL people out there. Kenoy has really started to come on in the last couple of weeks and Holmes has had two of the biggest hits I've seen in a long time the past two weeks. - Joey sucks, inept offensive line or not. the guy freaks under pressure, and outside of one great play on a pass to Pollard (set-up *cough* by a great block on Rucker by Jones). - Mariucci sucks. Dallas is right -- he's a predictable little ***** out there. Tollner's either just a cronie or a puppet out there. I mean, they threw the deep ball maybe, what, twice the ENTIRE game? - You guys did know their defense SUCKS against the pass right? - Backus sucks. - Raiola sucks. - DeMulling sucks. - Oh, how I (and Kevin Jones) has missed thee, Sledge. - How about FOX *constantly* showing sideline footage of teammates blowing up on Harrington? Kevin Johnson, Pollard (not so much blowing up, but POed), Raiola (lovers spat).... It's getting worse.. And finally.... What's the over/under on a potential team mutiny between the offensive and defensive units? The offensive guys will just point at Harrington, but still... That defense was LIGHTS OUT today and if you get ANYTHING -- ***ANYTHING*** -- from your offense YOU WIN THE DAMN GAME! /head asplodes

Man, I tell you, I was hooting and hollering when KJ lowered that shoulder into Lewis in the 3rd quarter and nailed him in the head. Lewis went down like a sack of potatoes grabbing his head. Great stuff.
-
I just wanted to say I have man-love for Kevin Jones. That is all. /still cooing over the KJ shoulder blast that leveled Ray Lewis

I think if Harrington is going the way he is now, we will be picking a QB in the 1st round . Not necessarily. They would probably be better served looking at DE, OL or LB, IMO. There should be some good QBs available from the 2nd-rd on.
-
Just watch -- Harrington will move on and thrive under a different system. Just wait.

the "chuck it to duckett" play. HAHAHA! Again! This stuff is comedy GOLD! You know, because at State each second on the clock counts as three, right?
-
I'm sure it's the case some of the time (lack of seperation), but I think a large part of it is due to Harrington bailing on the play way, way too early. Instead of stepping into the pocket and looking down field he'll tuck the ball and scramble. He bails *way* too often (bailing also means checking down...).

*cough*Rogers+pick to SD for Philip Rivers*cough* /not serious

Can't argue with that article at all, either. I've seen glimpses of it in the past, but it's just not coming together. It's getting close to where it's time to just cut bait and move on.

dallas -- I agree with the opinion on the defense. For all of the talk they got they started last season strong as well and they've easily been the best part of the Lions so far this season. Even though Mike Williams may turn into a stud (and the reasons the Lions drafted him even more solidified with recent events) it's hard to not wonder what the Lions linebacker corps would look like with Boss at SLB, Lehman in the middle and Derrick Johnson on the weak side... He's been absolutely sick for KC so far this season.

This is for timmy1997. Love ya, bud! /loves the occasional sophomoric rah-rah thread

Of course they knew. The 2nd infraction on the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy isn't made public. The 3rd instance IS public because it's a four-game suspension. For the "2nd offense", Rogers loses four-games worth of pay, and that's already happened. Coupling his injury history + his dances with mary jane and it's pretty clear why they drafted Mike Williams (even beyond the BPA reasoning).

I could think of $15-million+ reasons not to worry about it. If I was upset, I just throw a big pile of cash on the floor and roll in it, laughing. I mean, how nice would it be to have all that and just play in what, not even 10 NFL games in three years?
-
I read that he's been in the NFL's Substance Abuse Program since he tested positive for diluted urine at the scouting combine back in 2003. So, in order to get suspended for four games he had to test positive for a banned substance THREE TIMES since then. What a f***ing moron. BTW, he's got a six-year contract and there is a TON of money locked up on him. What a worthless pile of cowdung he is -- and this is coming from a guy that high hopes for him coming into the season and how he should be the Lions' top WR. Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

I used to be a staunch Joey supporter, but after the first three games, that's long gone. It's time for a change, IMO, but the Lions are in a Catch-22. And I can't stand Mariucci's (like Tollner made a difference?) and Jauron's game-planning. (Though the defense, aside for two big plays, was fantastic yesterday.)
-
Through the first 3 quarters, sure... In the 4th? No way.

FYI: He took almost the full two minutes allowed for the review (1:53), so it wasn't an "easy" call to make. I agree 100% with what Peter King says in his MMQB column: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...eek4/index.html It was a bulls**t reversal.

When I watch the replay, he catches the ball -- and has possession -- before that knee hits the chalk. Bad call.
