Fantastic final 40 minutes, minus the mental mistakes that the Wings again suffered from. You could almost tell a switch had been flipped at some point in that wild 2nd period -- it seemed like from that point on the Wings were decidedly fully engaged in this series. That said... what a rough game for that third line, particularly Darren Helm, who finished a -3. Cleary (-2) and Miller (-2) didn't fair much better.

There's no way May sees the ice in this series unless there's rampant injuries. I honestly think Meech would see action as a forward before May at this stage. While I'd love to see Abdelkader in for Williams, the fact that he mans the point on the 2nd unit probably means he stays... Ugh. I don't think Draper played bad, but I think 'Kader brings more to the table.

The first Coyote PP goal was unfortunate, but the second one was by far the most egrarious. Cleary gambled on the play at the blueline instead of staying in his zone and that's right where Wolski was for the pass. If he stays home tht puck doesn't get to Wolski. The third PPG, well -- I honestly blame Howard for that. Granted Helm was interfered with but Howard had a clear view of that shot but overplayed his angle to the left side and Morris made him pay. Agreed -- they didn't match the Coyotes' intensity after they dialed it up a notch. As the game wore on the Wings were reaching for more pucks instead of getting "engaged', they were standing arond, trying to do too much individually, making sloppy decision, etc.. Very disappointing.

Inexcusable that the high-stick -- which was right where the puck was -- was missed. Unbelievable that on the game's highest stage that something as easy to call like that isn't caught by four sets of eyes. That missed call dramatically changed the dynamic of that third period. Instead of a 5-on-3 after a few moments you're back at 5-on-5. That's not even mentioning that Lidstrom missed a shift or two getting patched up in the process. Detroit's sense of urgency waned quite a bit and there was a complete lack of a forecheck or physical game as the game wore on. After dominating play in the first period the Wings didn't counterpunch Detroit's attack. As much as I could ***** and moan about Doan's blatant interference on Helm that led to Morris's eventual GWG, that happens and that call gets missed. It didn't help that Helm wilted as soon as he got it (if he was able to battle through Doan's interference by moving his feet.) Alas... can we please move Williams off the power play? He's absolutely brutal and I don't understand why Babcock doesn't use Stuart more back there -- it's not like he doesn't have a hard shot and he's definitely more responsible. I'd like Abdelkader in there... it's a push for Williams or Draper.

Looks like the Red Wings won't be getting a new arena after all: Olympia Entertainment has opted to temporarily move the team to the 12,191-seat Cobo Arena as the club begins renovating Joe Louis Arena during the last quarter of this year. The team will remain there until second half of the 2011-12 season when the renovations are completed. ClickOnDetroit.com IMO, this is horrible news -- I was really looking forward to a new facility behind the FOX or in Corktown...

Osgood, Bertuzzi, Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Howard, Franzen and Zetterberg have been featured this season.

One of my all-time favorites was an ESPN commercial from the mid-90s where they're showing Mike Richter making all of these amazing saves in the crease while people watching him marvel at what he's doing. Once he's finished he starts skating away when someone fires a shot and it nails the plexiglass that's mounted on the inside of the goalposts. Richter whips around and skates back up to the net while eyeing the shooter and then takes his catching glove to buff out the rubber mark on the plexiglass. Classic! Couldn't find it on YouTube, though.
