    Mick and Ken Game 3

In the end it was kind of prophetic, wasn't it?

    Post-Game 3: Flames 3, Red Wings 2 (4/17)

I don't necessarily think the top line was unproductive (on the scoresheet yes, in terms of effectiveness, no) -- they were creating scoring chances during the game but Holmstrom failed to finish in a couple of instances in the first half of the game and a few passes were off the mark on others.

    Post-Game 3: Flames 3, Red Wings 2 (4/17)

Quoted for truth. Honestly, I didn't expect the Red Wings to take Game 3 and, if they did, this series was over Thursday. That said, I thought (overall) they withstood the Calgary initiative to start the game unscathed, if outplayed. I do think they were a bit overcautious in not making a defensive mistake early in the game and that took away the initiative they established in Games 1 & 2. I think they'll re-assert themselves in Game 4 Thursday.

I want to have Dan Cleary's babies.

    GAME 2: (4/15) Flames @ Red Wings

With the Wings losing both Yzerman and Shanahan in those first two games, I sure didn't. (Of course, I didn't think LA would win four-straight, either.)

    GAME 2: (4/15) Flames @ Red Wings

The biggest thing coming out of this game is that Calgary may have rushed to get Regehr back in this game and now the potential is there for him to miss the rest of the series because of that. Plus Bertuzzi probably being back for Game 3? I have a hard time believing that Calgary's going to be able to mount most of an effort the rest of this series if Regehr's out, the Wings get a fresh big body in Bertuzzi and Kiprusoff continues to get shelled. He'll wear out eventually.

    GAME 2: (4/15) Flames @ Red Wings

Agreed. The Wings are firing those shots from bad angles but most of the time there's a forward (Calder, Holmstrom, Cleary, etc., ) that's parked in front of Kiprusoff or charging in there. A big difference form the 03-06 playoff teams that fired those shots and wouldn't dare enter the slot or goalcrease.

    GAME 2: (4/15) Flames @ Red Wings

Can someone confirm that Regehr is injured again? I thought I heard something about it prior to the intermission, but I'm not sure... Though it's a lot of fluff the shots are 35-11 and outside of a 10 minute span in the opening half of the 2nd period, the Wings have -- by far -- carried the play. The Flames' last shot was at the 11-minute mark of the period. Just no stupid penalties and a killer instinct in the 3rd and they'll go to Calgary up 2-0. They've been getting offensive chances, they've just got to finish on them.

Wow. I think that just says it all.

    Do you think.....

QFT. Don't forget him picking a fight with Hatcher in 2004. He doesn't care. The only things I have a problem with is him bird-dogging Zetterberg and Datsyuk... seriously? Come on man, be a bigger man than THAT.

  15. The promotion manager at WXYT (1270am - the Wings' flagship station) sent me a note this morning to let everyone know that in addition to hearing tonight's game on 97.1FM you can also, for the first time, listen to the live audio stream at their web site: 1270sports.com So if some out-of-towners can't get a TV broadcast at all, here's a fantastic option to get a Detroit game feed!

    GAME 1 (4/12): Red Wings 4, Flames 1

Judging by the replay his stick was always in front of Lombardi and never between his legs. Samuelsson didn't deserve a penalty. Holmstrom DID -- that was a *hard* slash. Not sure how Datsyuk ended up in the box for it, though.

    GAME 1 (4/12): Red Wings 4, Flames 1

Did someone forget to tell Flip that he's supposed to be nervous for this game? So far in the first period he's been the Wings' best forward. Great puck protection, getting to the right spots, etc. Impressive!

What, no "X posts for a Red Wings' victory!" thread? You guys are losing your touch.

  20. Tidbit from today's Detroit News: "...Zetterberg has been out since Feb. 26, when an inflamed herniated disc forced him out of practice, and ultimately, for the rest of the regular season..." http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../704120390/1004 I called this weeks ago when I mentioned that all of Hank's symptoms pointed to exactly that. (Inability to "tie his shoes", pain shooting down the leg, projected recovery time, etc.) Why not just call a spade a spade from the get-go instead of saying it's just "inflamed"? Guarding against mass hysteria from the fans?
  21. Matt

    Zetterberg DID have herniated disc

In the majority of cases, yes. A few weeks of rest usually reduces the inflammation down to where it will heal.

    Zetterberg DID have herniated disc

Oh, I knew the instructions, haha. I thought including them, along with the last step, would be a little bit of overkill, haha. Don't want to insinuate that I think it'll be a sweep... Could you point me to an article that says Zetterberg has been suffering from a herniated disc prior to today's edition in the Detroit News? Because I've missed it up until this point, apparently.

    Zetterberg DID have herniated disc

Haha, so true. It just seemed odd that it wasn't called that, always "inflamed". Herniated discs are fairly "common" anyway, for a back injury. I said in the other thread that a large majority of them don't even induce pain (herniation has to be pressing against the nerve -- in this case, Hank's did, with his described leg pain) and rarely result in surgery. When Hank's recovery time started hitting the 4-6 week area (and further) it seemed like a forgone conclusion that's what it was. Maybe it wouldn't have been a good idea to say that it was herniated considering the Wings had just acquired a guy that was coming of surgery to repair a herniated disc and was out the last five months, eh? (When all is said and done I wouldn't be surprised to see Hank undergo some type of procedure after the season is over.)
