    Babs calls out Hasek...what gives?

I think Babcock tried that method the first half-dozen times Hasek has embellished contact in the crease this season and it never seemed to get through to him. I don't think he had any other recourse because the "behind closed doors" method clearly wasn't working.

    LGW Ticket Contest: Congrats, Timothy1997!

Trivia Question: On October 8th, 1993 the Anaheim Mighty Ducks played their inaugural game as an NHL franchise against the Detroit Red Wings. Name the Red Wings player that scored the first goal against Anaheim in the franchise's history. This goal was also the 1st career NHL goal for that player. That was a hell of a right. Hope Todd's OK.

    Blues just got screwed...big time

I'm pretty sure McGeough's incompetence level is an equal-opportunity venture.
  7. This was brought up in the "news on Bert?" thread concerning injuries to the Red Wings' forwards, specifically Zetterberg. Ansar Kahn of MLive expands on Zetterberg's injury this morning: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/stories/inde....xml&coll=1 I thought I recalled the original timetable when it was announced he would be out 2-3 weeks at the end of February that the Wings would shelve him for 7-10 days before letting him see the ice. We're rapidly approaching double that amount and there's still no word when he could return to the ice even to practice yet... and now another specialist. I'm finding it hard to imagine Zetterberg returning to practice for at least another 7-10 days (my speculation), then another week of practice.... We're getting awful close to the start of the playoffs there.

    News on Pavs

Comparing Eklund to Lyle (Spector) is like comparing apples to oranges. They're totally opposite sides of the trade rumor spectrum. Eklund doesn't provide any sources besides himself while *all* Lyle deals with is confirmed rumblings that have been posted in various reputable media outlets. He doesn't post what Jim-Bob's cousin's dog told him.

    Zetterberg's injury: March 30th return?

Thanks. So it's Zetterberg's target date for return, not his definite date of return. That makes sense.

    Zetterberg's injury: March 30th return?

Someone in the organization (or close to it) likely told him that's the target date of return. I didn't actually see McGuire's report on TV, so I'd have to defer on whether or not he said he'd be back on the 30th definitively or if that was the Red Wings' "target date" of return. Seems hard to pin down a specific date when he hasn't even skated yet and you don't know how he's going to respond to that physically. The mention of the herniated disc is just speculation on my part, but it would seem -- looking at what the news outlets have provided us and what's available online to research the back problem -- that it's a herniated disc. I didn't mention it before, but the Wiki page said that disc herniations are relatively "common" for back injuries. A large number of disc herniations don't even result in any pain -- the pain only comes when the herniated disc pushes up and presses on a nerve.

    The Chelios Report?

It's definitely good listening on the way home from the office. Thanks for posting these up for everyone, Paul & Bill, it's appreciated!

    Zetterberg's injury: March 30th return?

It does, which would likely mean that Zetterberg DOES have a herniated disc in his back. The more I look at this whole thing (duration of time out, target time of return, etc.) it all seems to point at a disc herniation. Some good reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinal_disc_herniation A herniation of the disc isn't the end of the world -- the time period that the Wiki article points out (and others that I read recently) points a 4-6 week recovery time with a large chunk of that being rest. Taking that time period and then looking at Zetterberg's situation and the same time period seems to be occuring in regards to his target window of a potential return. Another thing worth mentioning: 90% of disc herniations DO NOT require surgery. I couldn't find much information on recovery from an "inflamed disc" -- other than that it's a listed symptom, along with sciatica, of a herniated disc. I'll believe it if he's on skates next week. Although not comparing apples to apples (surgery compared to rest), Bertuzzi repeatedly set deadlines he wanted to meet (Feb. 20) and those continued to just pass by -- and that was WITH him skating. Back injuries seem to just be a wild card. I remain optomisitc, however, that he'll be back before the playoffs.

Ken Holland - 2nd best GM in the NHL

I figured as much, but I still don't see how an opposing viewpoint (or a "pessimistic" one) equates being labeled a troll. And wait a minute.... Wasn't the Murphy deal one of Bowman's, anyway? Holland, I'm sure, had input, but Bowman was calling the shots then.

Ken Holland - 2nd best GM in the NHL

Concerning the rankings, based on his bungling of cap management (keeping a healthy player on LTI *all season* because he'd put you over the cap is NOT "shrewd GM skills" -- it's sweeping the dirt under the rug), I don't think Lou deserves that top spot. And bungling the Mogilny and Malahkov signings? Please...

Ken Holland - 2nd best GM in the NHL

Exactly what part of his post would make you come to the "troll" label? Just because Lou isn't "Joey Blue Skies" about every player and/or move the front office has made doesn't make him a troll. What about the point he raised? He was critiquing the SI piece that labeled Schneider a "right move, right time" and compared him to Murphy -- a guy we got for futures and was integral in the 97 and 98 Cups. How exactly does Schneider compare to that, other than gawdy regular season offensive numbers?

Filppula out with lower body injury

Good to know it was a bruised foot... As long as it wasn't the dreaded "inflamed pubic bone"...

    Zetterberg's injury: March 30th return?

The one that sticks out the most to me was the brutal cross-check from Brad Stuart in the Calgary game at the Joe back in February. He played afterward but "tweaked" it in practice.

PLEASE READ: A Note on Spambots

As many of you have noticed the Invision Power Board software is susceptible to spam bot accounts that are able to circumvent the "anti-bot" tool on the account registration screen. I'm currently working toward alleviating this issue (the new forum software is installed on the development server and getting re-skinned to look like LGW -- once that's done, this forum will be upgraded to that version). If the new software isn't up to snuff (hard to tell on a dev server that doesn't get "wild" traffic) there a couple of mods that will be implimented. Most importantly: DO NOT REPLY IN SPAM BOT THREADS. All this does is flag this site as "active" and will result in MORE spam bots coming to these boards. I ask that you do not even enter these threads (the subjects are usually a dead giveaway, and most are identifiable by the smilie face icon used on all of them) and report the username of the bot and/or link to the offending thread. Myself and especially the moderators are usually very quick on the draw in terms of removing these posts, but every now and again one stays out on the live forums longer than it should.

    Any News on Bert?

Yeah, but I'm getting increasingly worried about Zetterberg since he hasn't even returned to the ice yet.

    NHL.com at it AGAIN!

It was amusing watching Keith Jones completely trip over Flip's name during the highlights during the intermission of the CHI/SJS game on Versus last night... He finally gave up and said "...the guy who's name I can't pronounce scored on the breakaway".

    Any News on Bert?

2nded. They're looking at one of the first games after the Western Canada road trip. Will probably get Zetterberg and Cleary back at that same time, too.
