What's worse: Trading Bertuzzi for something prior to the trade deadline or asking for a "big return", not getting it, and losing him for nothing in the summer? There's no sense in trying to recoup assets from the horrible mistakes of previous management. Get what you can get and move on.

As long as Lapointe would stay healthy I wouldn't mind that acquisition. Fedotenko would intrigue me much more, however.

Bringing back LaPenalty would fit Holland's M.O.. I think this would lend more credence to the potential of acquiring a player of the ilk of a Tkachuk, Guerin, Bertuzzi or -- as St. James suggests -- Forsberg.

They used to sell these at "The Art Show" at Oakland Mall until they closed down last year. Good thing I purchased up all three editions (one for each Cup). They look great arranged on my wall.

Contest Details Entry spots are limited to 46 individuals. Each member is allowed to enter only once. The LGW Trivia Challenge will start promptly at 3:00pm ET on Monday, January 8th. This initial portion of the contest is open only to Community Supporters (CSs). Members that are CSs will be given the trivia question and allowed to submit their answers at that time. Gaines Adams looks awfully appealing, but I usually wait until post-combine before cementing any judgments on players, especially since you can get physical freaks that rocket up the boards then (like Merriman a couple years ago, Davis last year).

I can totally see an Al Davis team going for Russell. Looking at it pre-combine, if there's one player that I think teams would line up to trade up for, it'd be Johnson. The problem is that all of the teams that need a player like him are drafting farther than where the Lions would probably want to fall. I don't see the Lions wanting to drop further than No. 8. A lot of draft pundits have this draft as extremely top-heavy, so it has the potential to have some trades at the top. As for Brady Quinn... I admit that I softened my "OH MY GOD NO" stance on him from a few months ago but Russell made him look like some Pop Warner kid in the Sugar.

IMO, No. 2 is just too high for Thomas. If the Lions trade down, sure, but he's no Brick. Calvin Johnson, baby! Roy, Calvin and Furrey in the slot. We won't be able to get the ball to any of them, but damn, come on! /not serious, though Calvin is a freakin' stud

I think a good contingent of us will be meeting after the 1st period of the game near the Yzerman LEGO statue that's right in front of the Detroit River entrace to JLA. (Near the Zamboni end.) Both myself and VIB have tickets in section 110, and it's right around that area. I'll be donning my white Yzerman jersey and a white fitted Red Wings cap. Jacqui, I'm sure, will be wearing her Yzerman retro jersey. There'll be others there, but I'm not sure what they're wearing.

Oh, I wouldn't consider him a savior in any stretch. My biggest beef is that of all of the drafts the Lions have a lock on the No. 1 pick in that draft looks ho-hum. I can't justify taking a Joe Thomas No. 1... and how many laughs would generate if we picked up Calvin Johnson? (Actually, I wouldn't mind that AT ALL. That guy is a freak and if the Lions are going with Roy and Furrey as 1/2 next season... Calvin looks studly.) I'm not excited about the Lions' chances of moving down, either....

Should I be tarred and feathered for actually starting to warm to the idea of drafting Brady Quinn? (Not really warming up, but maybe thawing out...)
