    Lions sticking with Harrington

This is a link to the Rice video: http://images.nfl.com/video/homepage/2005/0301-4.ram The Marinelli part is near the end. Most of the interview Rice can't stop talking about his basketball "skeeeeeelz".

King's just another warm-body for camp. I doubt he'll make the team. That said, Tom Lewand was on Stoney & Wojo during the rush hour drive this afternoon and said that he wouldn't rule out taking a QB in the draft. (He wasn't even ASKED that, he just added it on to the end in an awkward way.) He seemed to also poo-poo the Brees speculation without actually naming him (tampering) when talking about why the club stated confidence in Harrington and that "the media talks more about restructuring than we do internally": when Stoney prompted the "isn't there someone better out there?" Lewand quipped back that "is the guy healthy?", etc., etc.. IMO, Huff's likely the guy available at No. 9 for the Lions, but if Hawk or by some miracle (Davis & Cutler move into the top eight) Williams is available, that's the move. I *could* see the team taking Cutler, but I doubt it.

He'll only be available if the Titans opt for a quarterback with their pick. Volek wants out of there regardless, but I don't think they make that move unless they take a QB with that first pick.

Huh? The guy has played in 1 (!) playoff game so far and it was lost due to his inept kicker. How you can even come close to labeling a guy a "regular season QB" is pretty premature on a colossal scale. Geez.

I like Schaub -- and Martz is high on him. If Miami or another club out-bids for Brees I could see the club forfieting their 2nd-rounder (the rumored price for Schaub?) to the Falcons for him and attempt to get Harrington's contract a little more managable. It just doesn't make sense to NOT renegotiate his contract when he's paid more than Manning, McNabb and Brady and he's the 27th-ranked passer in the NFL.

That doesn't make any sense. MLive's Highlight Reel usually has transcripts of everything, yet I can't find anything pertaining to this interview or recall hearing it during Sports Chat Soup while on my way home from work. So you're saying that he directly contradicted himself from what he's said in every other instance when he's been asked about Harrington restructuring? http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...349/1048/SPORTS For him to not even explore that doesn't make any sense or it's just because the team is going to cut him in June and pocket the $8.5M in 2006 cap savings that would go toward Brees.

John, that's not what he said. I heard the Millen interview and listen to WDFN every day and he never said that the team would not look to re-structure. Check the Freep from Feb 22nd for further backup to this.

For the type of injury he had (torn labrum) -- and for a football player -- yeah, he should be fine. (Was it Tommy John surgery or something less?) But you forget one thing: This is the Lions we're talking about. If something bad can happen, it will.

The Lions have plenty of time to restructure his contract and the team is scheduled to meet with his agent at the combine later on this week. That said... I think the whole "Harrington is our No. 1" is a little force-fed and I'll believe it when I see it. Things might change if Brees is available for a reasonable sum, though his shoulder worries me.

    Super Bowl XL

Shoulda, woulda, coulda... Either team had opportunities but early on Seattle was controlling the game. The Steelers were anything but dominant (1st downs in 1st quarter, anyone?) and the defense, until the Seahawks imploded late, didn't seem all that daunting. Alexander was still going for 4+ YPC and Hasslebeck nearly put up 300 yards passing. "LUCKY" to find the endzone? LOL. They could've done more than that if it weren't for a PI call and some horrendous pass drops. Trust me, the Steelers were anything but dominant last night, but congratulations nonetheless.

    Super Bowl XL

I agree on that call. It was far too close, either way. IMO, it was one of those plays that you couldn't overrule either way: If called 4th down I don't think you could overturn that ruling to a TD and (obviously) vice-versa. I'm glad the Steelers won but, man -- did Seattle ever shoot themselves in the foot in this one. They had plenty of opportunities to win this one.

Go Steelers! Those fans are everywhere around here. Went to Friday's last night and there was a whole throng of them in the place. (Some ABC Sports crew guys, too -- they were staying at the Residence Inn across the street.)

    Detroit Lions

Why not? Moore has more of a proven track record, IMO, than Wisenhunt. I don't see a difference between the two outside of the offensive philospophy each has. I tell you, though, this whole Martz saga is pretty interesting.

The same reason the Lions wanted to talk to Tom Moore?

    Detroit Lions

By the looks of things it wasn't money (as Martz would lead you to believe) but that, in the end, Marinelli didn't appear comfortable with the hire. Kind of odd, considering he was "offered the job", but there's NO WAY IN HELL the Lions balked at giving Martz $1.5m/year for 3 years. That said... I think the Lions should approach Wisenhunt (sp) from the Steelers after the Super Bowl, and I think they will. He runs that power game that Marinelli keeps talking about, etc. I'm not sure if he's still under contract after this season (probably is) and a move to the Lions would be a 'lateral' move even with a pay increase, plus it appears that Oakland his hot for him, too.

Martz hasn't been hired, but it does sound like it's just a matter of money and/or years. I think this is a GREAT hire if it goes through. The only other guy I would've been satisfied with is Mularkey (Miami OC now) or Tom Moore (current Indy OC, Lions couldn't get him out of his contract). I think the Lions have done a fantastic job putting together a coaching staff so far this offseason and Martz would be the icing on the cake. Despite his quirks he is a proven winner, innovator and is exactly what this offense needs. Listing to Marinelli talk about him on WDFN yesterday was really encouraging.
  22. With the Olympic break effectively consuming a large portion of this month, I opted to include the complete Olympic schedule as well. Torino is +1 GMT (Central European Time), which means it's six hours ahead of Eastern US. Thusly, all of the times indicated on the schedule are ADJUSTED to EASTERN US time. 800x600 | 1024x768 | 1280x960 | 1280x1024 Enjoy!
