Same feeling I had last year in the Rose Bowl. "FFS! Tackle the guy!" It was (somewhat) satisfying to see him do it to USC as well.

I don't know it was so much as people calling for Brady's head as it was that the program had a local whiz-bang gunslinger in Henson that fans couldn't wait to see due to the hype-machine. Brady wasn't a bad quarterback by any stretch, but he certainly showed no precursor to how dramatic his NFL success would be. I don't think for a second that you can pass judgment on a guy on how he handles losing when it just happened twice. It was his *last* college game last night and I'd be surprised if didn't express some emotional discomfort. That said, I think you're blowing his comments out of porportion, anyway. (Oh, and after the other time his team lost, they rattled off 34-straight. So I believe they "handled" that first one quite fine.) As for your comment regarding maturity level, being surrounded by talent and "being a savior" -- what about Young? Is it really that different? IMO, Young is DRAMATICALLY less mature than Leinart and while Matt had the luxury of a Heisman winner in his backfield along with a huge receiver and another top back.. well, the talent on the other roster isn't UTEP. It's Texas, which routinely turns in one of the top recruiting classes every year. Going back to the Brady/Leinart comparison -- I didn't say they were equals, be it in skill, game-management or maturity... Just that I see some similarities to varying degrees. Joey was another product of the system. (The Tedford one, anyway.) Wide-open spread offense and his accuracy was never where Leinart's has been. I never said I expected Leinart to shine right away. IMO, the best way to go when drafting a QB is to do what Cincinnati did with Palmer.

I'm not comparing the collegiate careers of Brady and Lienart at all -- that's just silly. I'm comparing their relative skill-set: Both are big, not overly mobile quarterbacks and neither possess the cannon arm. But what they each have in spades are strong leadership abilities, throw a very accurate ball, and have great game-vision. I could give two hoots if you can heave the ball 80 yards if you can't throw it accurately. What Leinart and Brady "miss" on raw athletic ability they make up with intelligence and confidence under pressure. The Ryan Leaf - Matt Leinart comparison is also silly. It's apples and oranges. Leaf went to a pass-happy 5-reciever set school at the time at WSU and was a physical freak due to his size and arm strength -- but had the maturity of a 5-year old and the brain capacity of a peanut.

Please, for the love of God, please tell me you're joking... Am I the only one that doesn't think Young's game will translate effectively to the NFL? His passing mechanics may work in the college game but won't in the pros and he sure as hell won't be out-running DBs and LBs as often as he did over the last two years. I don't think he'll be horrible in the NFL by any stretch -- but "greatness"? Please. I'd still take Matt Lienart, who reminds me of Tom Brady, over Young. HappyPancake -- As for Reggie Bush... I strongly believe he's going to be something else in the NFL. He's special. As for Leinart's comments, I guess it could be taken as sour grapes, but I think he meant more that USC was the better "team" in regards to Young's "freakish athlete"-routine to pretty much single-handedly take Texas to the title.

    Detroit Lions

Not a chance in hell. There's no way this team goes for another inexperienced QB that has had NO playing time. Might as well go with Orlovsky. Most likely at this point? Harrington is back at a renegotiated contract and the team signs Kitna (eww). If they trade their pick it'll be for Matt Schuab (and even then I doubt it'd be their No. 1 -- maybe their No. 2), who has actually *played*. Or a trade for Brees.

The complaining about the lack of an Outback Bowl bid occured LONG before the Alamo Bowl was played. It isn't sour grapes. Other than that, yes, there are "bigger fish to fry" in order to get Michigan's ship righted.

No kidding? What I mean is that it's tougher than normal next year: ND, OSU & PSU are all on the road next year.

Well, I tend to agree that the losses coupled with the close gaem experience will help out in the long run... however, Michigan's schedule is BRUTAL next year.

If you've nothing intelligent or constructive to add to the conversation, DesertWing, then please feel free to STFU -- this thread was about the Alamo Bowl, not Michigan's other collapses during the season. Did you even watch the game last night? If you didn't, heed the above advice. If you DID, then I can't fathom how your blanket BS comments have any value at all.

    Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

Well, I can't say I agree with that assessment, at least in tonight's case. The offense was moving the ball late when it needed to and the plays were there. Avant should've broke for big yardage but didn't properly secure the ball, and Henne was trying to get the ball off when his line collapsed around him. The OL was pathetic for large stretches tonight when it's traditionally one of the program's biggest strengths. Henne saved their bacon plenty of times (and I thought he played GREAT, despite the crappy Comp. %) by turning the ball upfield himself. Basically, for me, it comes down to the defense making plays when it counts. They didn't get the stop on Ross. Couldn't stop the 2pt conversion... ... and, well... if I had one dying wish... WILL SOMEONE PLEASE CUT RODNEY HARRISON FROM THE TEAM. HE SUCKS! How many times did this clown look clueless out there this season? How many times did he get blown up, out-right beaten, or make a boneheaded (i.e., the late hit out of bounds tonight) play? This guy's a complete moron and a waste of a scholarship. He's my new Whitley.

    Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

That's true... but the way this game went, I'd be surprised if he DOESN'T lay into the officiating. I don't see how the NCAA would have the gall to even fine him or the university (if they can) about it once the tape is reviewed. It was a refereeing disaster on an epic scale.

    Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

Nebraska got jobbed a few times, too... The imaginary "halo" call was one of them that comes to mind. But the replay officials' incompetence, the blown interference call on 4th down, the BS "he was down" call on the fumble in the 1st quarter... I could go on and on. I wouldn't want these assclowns refereeing a powder-puff game. Why the F wasn't there an SEC, ACC, Big East *whatever* crew there? The F'ing Sunbelt? WTF?

Uhh... what? You don't really know Carr that well, do you? Lloyd has bitched plenty of times to NCAA officials, it just doesn't get the press.

    Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

Amen to that. I was thinking about mentioning that, just for the humor of it. Did you like how they originally spotted the ball on the five following that punt where the Nebraska coverage player was in the end zone, jumped up and swatted the ball back to the 5? PRICELESS! Tirico (before fading to commercial): "... Uh.... I thought that ball broke the plane..." Herbstreit: "Yeah, I don't know what..." (commercial) The fact that Carr had to use two timeouts because of the incompetence of the replay official was horrendous... The loss of those two timeouts cost Michigan a TON of time on that last Nebraska possession. And not starting the play clock right when the ball was spotted on fourth down? That cost Michigan at least ONE play, very likely TWO!

You and me both. But I can't, it's 1am and I can't deal with waking up a 7-month old. This has been an unbearable exercise in restraint...

    Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

Well, Manningham should've caught that pass on 3rd down, no doubt. A bit of "Braylon-itis" on the easy catches. And it was a clear-cut case of pass interference on the 4th down play. You know it's pathetic when both play-by-play guys are disgusted by what's going on, laughing at its ridiculousness, and you can even hear "WTF?!"-like comments from them going into breaks (before their mikes are off and they go to commercial) or even coming back from one. Pretty sad. I'm sure Carr is going to raise holy hell, and I wouldn't blame him.

    Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

I do want to add, though, that Michigan did an excellent *cough* *hack* *gag* job two of their last few possessions when they turned the ball over. Nice work giving away a game you had firmly in your grasp, referees or not.

    Alamo Bowl-Michigan vs Nebraska

I have NEVER seen a more horribly refereed game in my life. EVER. And I'll smack the first Sparty-slappy that pops in here to say "typical UM fans, complaining about referees." That said... that ending was F'in crazy! If Ecker listened to Breaston SCREAMING at him from behind to lateral him the ball, he'd have likely seen the end zone. Also a big (sarcastic) kudos for the Michigan assistant that went on the field down near where Ecker was tackled that prevented the TE from CUTTING IT BACK INSIDE, effectively funneling him right to the Nebraska DBs.

    Weight to Philly?

Interesting. I would assume (ha-ha) that there would be some sort of eligibility clause written into the CBA to prevent players from being "stockpiled" on IR, if that were the case, in order to pad a roster come playoff time. Very interesting, indeed. Would be nice to get that full copy of the new CBA online before it expires, wouldn't it?
