    01/07 GDT: Canucks at Oilers

Robert Lang just completely undressed Marc Staal and scored a sweet goal in the Canadiens/Rangers game. Check your local highlights!!! Oh yeah, he's lazy and he sucks. esteef

    Osgood vs. Conklin

This has the makings of a goalie war thread so I'll play it safe and say go with whoever is the most healthy. :hippie: But I will say that I am really impressed with Conklin's play so far. esteef

    Jarkko Ruutu bites Andrew Peters

I would imagine that there was some sort of bite mark or Peters wouldn't have been showing the ref and getting treatment on the bench. Also, in egroen's video it looks like the glove snaps back when Peters is trying to pull away, like it was finally let go by Ruutu's teeth. I think he bit him. :burger: esteef

    Jarkko Ruutu bites Andrew Peters

So the last couple of games this week we've had Backes stick some guy in the face, Fairy Perry elbow someone in the face and now Ruutu biting someone. WTF?! esteef

    Winter Classic Ratings

Also, there are a lot of Wings and Hawks fans spread out across the country that probably watched, moreso I would say than the Sabres or Pens. Let alone it was an old time rivalry between two O6 teams. That probably helped as well. Just sayin'... esteef

    Crosby "fight"

Agree, absolutely not his fault, but that still doesn't make the constant media fawning any easier to stomach though. There's just too many good players in the league for Crosby to dominate headlines all the time like he does but whatever. (f*** You NHL Media! ) If anything, it speaks volumes to his on-ice play that all the "haters" have are minor incidents such as these to "bash" him about, as opposed to him sucking it up on the ice actually playing hockey. Overall, I know he's a good kid, but I'm still gonna take my jabs at him when the opportunity arises. Gotta keep him from getting too big of a head right? :fro: esteef

    Crosby "fight"

Hey, video doesn't lie. But please don't lump me into the category of people who just bash Crosby regardless (pause for laughter), he is a good offensive hockey player, of that there is no doubt. I just get tired of having his mug jammed onto my tv screen ad nauseum everytime anything hockey is on. I guess I just don't like what he represents more than him personally, you know that whole media and league darling kind of crap. That's all, so I like taking jabs at him at every opportunity just to balance out all the pole-smoking he gets everywhere else (except on this board of course :rollwink: ) Cheers! esteef

    Crosby "fight"

If Crosby just mans up proper, we don't all have to read your ridiculously long posts. Add his ball punching of a guy already locked up with someone to your "plausible scenario" and how much of a benefit of the doubt do you give him then? Crosby's a great puck handling, goal scoring *****. I absolutely give him points for not wailing away on McClean when he was down though, but isn't it "plausible" he could've just realized he jumped a guy and was in ass-saving mode from potential retaliation? esteef

    George Laraque Blog

Interesting... "When you have a heavyweight on your team, that presence makes the other team accountable and could save your star player from getting hurt. So many teams and many examples have happened in the past where teams had been suffering because they didn't have a tough guy and if some of you are still not convinced and still think I don't know what I'm talking about, ask the guys who sweat and play the game. Ask them how big of a difference they see when they play on a team that has a heavyweight compared to a team that does not have one. You'll get your response there and that from quite elite players! For example, we can talk about how last summer, all the tough guys were signed quite quickly and before any other player, other than the obvious nine or 10 megastars. Who is the first player Pittsburgh signed this summer? Eric Goddard, three-year contract, figure it out. As much as you need a fighter, a good one that can play is hard to find and the teams that have them won't let them go, in general! lol! A sniper is easy to get: you wait for the trading deadline when pending unrestricted guys will be available and you take your pick. But at that time, all the tough guys are taken and not available, also probably because a lot of us are not making big money and are easy on the salary cap! lol!" -- Laraque esteef

"The Code says things like: not fighting a guy at the end of his shift not jumping guys to get a head start never punch a guy when he's down (that's the most important thing for me; players -- and referees -- know I never do) and, especially, don't celebrate after a fight. You see that stuff a lot in junior hockey, but for guys who do it in the NHL, it's embarrassing and shows no respect for the other guy. Remember that everything you do comes back to you; you do that, it will happen to you because everyone is watching and talking! " See Sidney Crosby.

    Crosby "fight"

Let's not argue assumptions, cause that's all the first part is. And I "assume" there would be a lot less folks here cheering on a Wings player for completely jumping someone for (apparently) nothing than you think. But again, even if everyone here cheered it (which I doubt) it still wouldn't make the act any less *****-like. (Of course, if someone squashes a player's head against the boards then all bets are off, but it didn't "appear" that that was the case here. ) No one's saying LGWers are at fault for Crosby love, but that doesn't mean anytime Golden Boy screws up (which seems to be a lot lately) we can't enjoy pointing it out and poking fun at the league's perfect little lap dog. If people don't want to hear it, then don't read it (what a concept!) The "facts" are, when the puck was dropped, McLean went for the puck and Crosby jumped on his back. THOSE are the facts. I don't fault Sid for fighting, just the manner in which he went about it (Tootoo style). Hell, I would even be fine with it if he were trying to get a leg up on Brashear or Boogey or someone like that, THAT I can understand, but McLean? C'mon man! Man-up and do it right, anything else is just *****, (you know, like jumping a guy already tangled up and punching him in the nuts!) esteef

    Crosby "fight"

Haha! I'm back! (Had to go be Dad for a while). My point is this whole idea of "If player X was a Red Wing while committing ridiculous act Y then everyone would love him" is not only far from the truth, it's completely irrelevant. I'm sure there are plenty of Pitt fans that LOVE what Crosby did, does that make it any less cheap or *****-like? Even if the whole world cheered him on as he did it, would that make it any better? It was a ***** move only magnified by the fact that he is the league's Chosen One that we all must idolize as the physical embodiment of everything great about the NHL. And everytime somebody here starts ragging on "Player Y" they get the "if he was a Red Wing you'd love it" BS. Just pointing out the absurdity of that point cause it always seems to rear it's ugly head in discussions such as these. If it wasn't you who said it, it would've certainly been someone else very shortly. Better? esteef

    Crosby "fight"

Yet another ***** move by Crosby. So now, Sid The Kid is a whining ball puncher who jumps people Tootoo style before they even know there's a fight going on. Can we stop mentioning him in the same breath as great captains like Yzerman yet? esteef

    Ovechkin CHEAP SHOT

To me it looks like AO is tracking him on the forecheck to put a big hit on him against the boards as soon as Heward gets the puck to take it up ice. Heward knows AO is there though and tries to quickly turn the other way and go behind the boards instead, a move Wings dmen have perfected to avoid big collisions. AO is a very smart player though and anticipates this re-direction. He finishes his check but it actually looks like he pulls up when he realizes he has guessed right and Heward is bent over slightly against the boards right before contact is made. Tough play for Heward but I don't think it was dirty or cheap, or that AO was trying to injure or anything. I wouldn't suspend him but who knows these days? esteef

    The Weather Channel announces...

Agree with all of this. Most announcers, especially Pierre, have obvious animosity towards the Red Wings cause they're so good. They never break down the plays like they do other teams or say what Detroit "needs to do to get back into this game" like they do every other team who's losing to the Wings. They don't care, they give it the standard "Detroit is good, move along nothing to see here" style commentary pretty much every game. I'm almost numb to it at this point. That's why it's so refreshing to watch Ken and Mick. Of course it's Lilly's fault he was boarded , he has a winged wheel on his jersey right? It ain't like he saw the guy coming and turned away from the hit into the boards. He was digging the puck out and simply got BOARDED WITH NO CALL! Kopecky was boarded earlier in the game too with no f***in' call! f*** the refs! But boy they didn't miss any cheap f***in' calls against the Wings to help out the Hawks in the first period did they?! Boooools***! (BTW bitching about calls when you win is the best time to do it. You get your point across without it looking like sour grapes) And isn't it time for a new f***in' non-Crosby NHL commercial yet?!!!! Jesus!! It should be a rule, Cup Champs get the commercials for the next year. Done. If you don't win, you don't get the limelight. Yes, the Wings (not the wind) beat the Hawks yesterday, but you wouldn't have known it listening to those fags in the booth OR on the ice! NOW I feel better, esteef
