True dat. I didn't hear too much out of Phaneuf after Bert dropped him either though, and he was supposed to be this huge physical force against us at the start of the series. Cleary gave him a smack too but Bert stood up to him time and time again. The Wings DO need someone like that, especially since all we have to choose from is third or fourth liners at this point. peace, esteef

I'll give you Brad May, only because guys like Penner, Thornton, Getzlaf, Moen, Pronger and Rob Neidermeyer were getting it done physically (go ahead and throw in Perry too). Physical presence is usually the ONLY thing that slows Detroit down and most playoff teams know it (if not the world by now). The Red Wings succeed in the playoffs at all because of skill at most if not all positions, unlike most other teams. Toughness has helped, but seemingly not enough. Cheers esteef

I'm with you on Bertuzzi, but are you saying the Ducks weren't tough? They led the regular season AND the playoffs in fights. And no more fighting? The league had better fighting numbers this year than last as well: NHL Fighting Stats Granted, these numbers are "New NHL" numbers but still an increase from last year. Physical intimidation DOES work, the Wings fall victim to it in the playoffs year after year. wurd, esteef

I might agree to this if there were numbers to support it. Like maybe a breakdown of sales per month Ducks gear vs. SCF gear in the Anaheim area. It's just hard to believe that the cumulative sales of Ducks gear this year, when considering the new logo change, uniform color and design change and the success of the team this season, have been overshadowed by SCF gear sales when there really hasn't been that much time for Anaheim fans to buy it (once Anaheim clinched a spot?), relative to the time they had for normal Ducks gear all successful season (and post-season up to the Finals) long. f*** Pronger. esteef
