If we had a player like Mike Rupp we could've iced him during the timeout and he could've punched somebody for twenty seconds. esteef

I love how Tim Thomas gets ALL the credit for the Bruins winning the Cup in these threads. Probably because that's a hell of a lot easier than acknowledging the fact that Boston was chock full of fighting players that could beat up our entire team and they won the Cup. People around here talk like if we had just ONE of those guys we'd be lucky to make the playoffs. Especially with our s***ty roster full of guys like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom... I bet if Boston lost it would've been blamed on "not enough skill" in the lineup. esteef edited fer dum spellin

Shawn Thornton is the exact type of player we need. An every-day player that can beat up most of the league and spark our other lower tiered guys. esteef

His "scoring potential". esteef

If fighters have zero effect on a team's ability to win a Cup, why do they still exist in the league? Why do players like that try to be extra physical and intimidate if (according to people on this board) it has absolutely no effect on good players (like the Wings roster)? Why are these type of players still signed and iced to this day if they are useless towards winning? Maybe you guys are on to something and the rest of the hockey world is just too dumb to figure it out. esteef

Bad example, the majority of jobs in this country don't happen in front of a camera like sports do. edit: And if the Flyers would've come back and won, it makes the Rangers players and their coaches look bad for not holding on to their lead and finishing the game off. So I would ***** too. esteef

s***ty officiating on display for all the fans and media to witness sure as hell questions the integrity of not only the league but the game itself. I'm sure teams needing points in the standings could care less if a ref isn't given an assignment later on in the playoffs. They want a fair playing field regardless of the score or time left on the clock. esteef

Torts has plenty of money, he still got what he wanted which was drawing attention to ridiculous calls that seemed to be made to make the game more dramatic, fairness be damned. Good on Torts. esteef

And what's that? Filling the roster with a bunch of wusses? I keed I keed! esteef

Moon the crowd!! esteef

But you're not agreeing to disagree with your ridiculously long winded huffing and puffing. Your boy tried to clean Abby's clock, got caught and tried to smooth talk his way out of it. Shanny didn't buy it and neither does anyone outside of the losing team's city. esteef

^ You mean the St Louis fans and media disagrees with the suspension? Shocker! esteef

This. Isn't accepting the use of the word by one race and not by another considered racist? If people want the word to be off limits then stop ******* letting others use it, "regardless of color". esteef

2012 NHL Winter Classic GDT : New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers

Good on Tortorella for ripping the officiating even though his team won, it's the only time people listen. Torts Rips Refs "PHILADELPHIA -- A feel-good, come-from-behind Winter Classic win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday didn't leave New York Rangers coach John Tortorella completely warm and fuzzy. The fiery coach basked in the Rangers' 3-2 victory against their Atlantic division rivals but delivered a parting shot at the game's officials. Tortorella blasted the referees and questioned whether the on-ice crew had their own agenda to make the game more entertaining for the sellout crowd and the viewing audience tuned in at home. "They're two good referees, (but) I thought the game was reffed horribly," Tortorella said of Ian Walsh and Dennis LaRue. "I'm not sure what happened there. Maybe they wanted to get it to overtime. I'm not sure if they have meetings about that or what, but we stood in there." "That third period," Tortorella said. "It was disgusting." The call that drew the most ire was a penalty shot awarded to the Flyers with 19.6 seconds remaining after Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh was whistled for covering the puck in the crease. Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist stoned Flyers' forward Danny Briere on what would've been the game-tying goal, but made it clear that he thought the call was bogus. When asked if he thought the penalty shot was awarded to heighten the excitement of an already heavily-hyped game, Lundqvist conceded that it was possible. "Maybe that's the only reason why he called it," he said. "It would've been tough to swallow if they'd scored but luckily they didn't. There were a couple calls at the end there where I was surprised, honestly." Tortorella said he felt the officiating deteriorated in the third period with the Rangers leading 3-2. "I'm not sure if NBC got together with the refs to turn this into an overtime game," Tortorella said. "It started with the non-call on (Marian Gaborik) getting pitch-forked in the stomach. And then everything started going against us." When asked for a response from director of officiating Terry Gregson, an NHL spokesman said the league would not comment unless they decide to fine Tortorella." esteef -
