This was my favorite part of that article: "You think the Islanders liked how this played out? Sources tell ESPN.com the Islanders were saying Sunday that they were the ones getting done over by the league and this was a conspiracy on the NHL's part to protect the Penguins." I thought comments like these were reserved for Jealous-of-Crosby tin foil hat wearing fans of other teams? esteef

Whether he makes a difference or not remains to be seen and is also irrelevant. Forsberg is an experienced NHL player who should have to pass through waivers. The criteria the NHL uses to determine waiver eligibility for european players is retarded. esteef
-
Forsberg never retired and it wasn't like he was just sitting at home eating chips. He's been working out/practicing enough to be able to start as soon as he joins the Avs. Again, if his ankle wasn't suspect he would've played for Modo this year. Whether or not his skates touched the ice in an actual game SHOULD be irrelevant. esteef
-
Then why do the Avs want him? Cause his play competitively sucks right now? Forsberg will be ready to play or the Avs wouldn't be doing this. Do you really think that he wasn't working out, skating and probably practicing with Modo? His ass should have to go through waivers. esteef
-
I didn't say it was unclear, I said it was poorly written, and Forsberg is walking right through the loophole that poor writing has created. The rule's intent is to stop exactly what Colorado is doing, acquiring a ringer from europe in time for the playoffs that didn't have to go through waivers. His age and state of health are irrelevant. We're talkingabout Forsberg here, a proven NHL elite player not Jiri Whatshisface. esteef
-
Then he would've played for Modo thus making him waiver eligible, and after seeing what happened to Nabby he wouldn't have done it. esteef What perspective? That the rule is poorly written? Everybody goes through waivers or everybody doesn't, simple as that. esteef
-
He's got it down to a science now where he can just waltz through waivers too. esteef
-
I'm hearing Volchenkov got 3 games. Don't have a link though. esteef
-
Nobody really thought he would end up in Detroit. It was completely obvious that Nabby wanted to at the very least play for a playoff team not some going nowhere bottom dweller or be buried in the minors. Snow claiming him was certainly within the rules, but still a complete dick move. It's no surprise that Nabby's kindly telling them to f*** off. If a playoff bound team claims him he probably shows up with no problems. esteef
-
Nabby doesn't want to join them and suddenly all of their goalies are injured? Nice try Snow, I certainly hope Nabby holds out now. Just as a big f*** you for claiming him. esteef
-
Well I disagree so you f***in get over it. esteef
-
Way to pay attention, I could f***in care less about Nabby, he was just the most recent example. To every other team it looks like the Avs just picked up an elite player who didn't have to go through waivers. Fair? esteef
-
And yet Forsturd will start playing immediately for the Avs after signing. How is this possible since he didn't play for a "league" in europe? Shouldn't he be out-of-shape by not playing in a european "league" all this time? The waiver bs should just be gone all together for these situations, I'm just pointing out how stupid the rule is as written. Nabby and Forsturd are doing the exact same thing yet Nabby was forced to be exposed to waivers and Forsturd was/is not. Both players are looking to start playing immediately after re-joining the NHL, meaning they are both "game ready" regardless how many "league" games they may have played in europe (or not). esteef
-
Sure, because it's completely impossible to have training facilities for these players to stay in shape and be ready to play regardless if they play any games in a "league". Just let european players sign with teams up to the trade deadline but cap it at 1 or 2 players a year per team. No waiver and their salary goes against the cap. Keep the waiver shiite in place for players going between the minors and the bigs though, Done. This free pass through the waivers cause he didn't actually skate with a team is boools***. esteef
-
I'm not saying they did, but it certainly could look like they did. How do we know Forsturd hasn't been ramping his game up all year in europe just to come into the NHL right before the playoffs to help the Avs? Isn't THAT what the rule was supposed to prevent? esteef
