The game misconduct is automatic with the major penalty. esteef

To be fair, a still frame of a player midway between turning his head from back to front doesn't prove he was looking ahead, should've "had his head up" and therefore the hit was not blindside. But again, we'll see what the ruling is on this one. esteef

You say it's not primary head contact, I say it is. Whatever. The tall comment was simply addressing your stance that taller players should somehow get some sort of supposed leniency because they are tall. They don't and they shouldn't. Personally I could care less if he's suspended or not, but I suspect he will be. esteef

The rule gives no provision for "being tall". esteef

Whether he's injured or not is irrelevant, the hit was blindside (east/west) and to the head. That's against the new rule. Thornton does skate right up the red line to make the hit (at the 5-6 second mark of the vid) and makes sure he hits the head first. You can disagree, that's fine but Thornton will be suspended here because he passed up a safer hit to deliver one to the head. That's what the NHL wants out of the game, the unnecessary blindside hit to the head. esteef

This is after his head is already whipping around from being contacted. esteef

I hear ya, but in this case was Joe really moving very fast right out of the box? These will be things discussed at the hearing I'm sure. esteef

Thornton could have easily dropped Perron with a shoulder to shoulder here, still would've knocked him down, still would've broken up the play, but he made sure to get around the shoulder to get to the head. That's against the new rule, primary contact is with the head. I'm not a huge fan of it but he did break the rule. esteef

Not target the head. esteef

Agree. esteef

Isn't "blindside" relative to where the player is looking? Technically Cooke was in front of Savard when he hit him, but Savard had been looking left and just turned around, much like what happened here. Thornton comes from the "blindside" and specifically targeted the head when he had everything thing else available to hit. That's what they're trying to eliminate, unnecessary hits to the head. I don't like it, but he'll be suspended. esteef

No offense but are you new to the NHL? esteef

Not true. This fight was more energetic because of all the pulling and ragdolling. Datsyuk actually fought someone who knew his way around a tussle so there was more strategy involved. Let Crosby take on Perry and see how he fares. esteef

Didn't Ken and Mick mention that Modano would likely sit the second of back-to-back games coming up? esteef

Battle of the visors! Draw. Props for both dropping them though. At least Crosby squared off this time. esteef

Agree. Ericsson looked good, Kindl not so much. esteef

Did you hear about Cheveldae almost getting hit by a car? He's ok though, went right bewteen his legs! esteef

Miller-Filpula-Bertuzzi? esteef

So are ill-timed penalties a minus? How about crappy shift changes? Failure to finish checks? How about mishandling a pass that could've been a scoring chance? Not skating fast enough? Have fun with your system dude. esteef

Feel free to continue, I just disagree with the method. Your opinion of Janik is your opinion and nothing more. Janik was sent down because he's an older bottom pairing d-man that will clear waivers easier than a young Wings prospect who are traditionally scooped up quickly off the wire, regardless of performance. Don't need "stats" to figure that out. Babcock has actually commended Janik on his play to the media, something that can't be said for Salei or Kindl. As far as your scoring index pertaining to Janik, your first reason for docking him a +/-, the ill-timed fight in your opinion, is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. The second, the turnover that led to the goal against was already covered in the official stats. You adding another -1 because you didn't like the pass is ridiculous. Should Salei get another -1 because he didn't cover his man in front of the net that also led to a goal in that game? Because I thought that was pretty s***ty coverage. Worthy of an extra -1 though? By that logic Modano, Hudler, Salei and Kindl would all be -30's by now. The official stats, especially with regard to +/- aren't the greatest but they are a lot more fair than your assumptive scoring of stats. esteef
-
So these "stats" are all subjective based on what you feel is a good play or not. I'll stick with official stats thank you. esteef

Looks like the one Hasek stole from us! esteef
