According to most of LGW.com, the Detroit News and ESPN we should just pack up and go home. I say we are more talented, more experienced, more determined and WE ARE THE DETROIT RED WINGS AND WE WILL WIN -

From Ace Ventura; Pet Detective "Michael Sammuelson should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell, You want a cookie?" After purposely breaking D's wrist I have absolutely no love for him and wish him nothing but the worst.

I didnt figure you were trying to convert anyone. What I ws getting at is when you tell someone to stay out if they dont agree with you, every last one will come out of the woodwork. I for one agree wholeheartedly but not everyone feels the same way and will heed your request to not post to this thread. Personally, I think the realist should be chatting away in hockey odds threads or more statistical ones for that matter. Chearleading and RARARAing is also good for the fan base and shouldnt get rained on by the more "realistic" fans. Unfortunately, the people that think you are a homer for cheering and wishing the best will show up and in return people that yell at those people for not be supportive will as well. You tried your best but it ainst happening here and probably wont happen online. My best suggestion is to ra ra ra at the bar or with your friends or at the game.

Dan Cleary openly admits to being at 50%
Cali-Wing-Nut replied to NBCnothingbutcrosby's topic in General
Bupe is definitely used for detox but it also has the same pain killing effects as oxy, hydrocone or methadone. The only reason why it is used for detox is that since it is an Opiate Antagonist, ingestion of a comparable amount of an opiate will cancel each other out causing immediate withdrawal. For someone that isnt taking opiates, that would be a very effective pain killer and would also stay offthe radar of almost every drug test. Methadone is a common pain killer for chronic long term pain not just detox. The well known use is for heroin substitution but consider why its used... It provides the body with the opiate feel but without the high from heroin or oxy. Methadone is a miracle drug for killing pain without getting you high and would probably be used heavily in sports medicine if it was allowed. Remember the history of Methadone, it was developed by the Germans during WW2 because they didnt have access to opiates and needed a pain killer for soldiers. Excuse me for my freakout, when I see someone saying they are taking PAIN MEDICATION I figure it is something well beyond Naproxin or the like. -

Ok so NSAIDs, topical numbing agents and cortisteroids. Im gonna assume that Pain medication in this context isnt Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Methadone or Buprenefin (the two latter being synthetics, Methadone being a opiate agonist and Bupe being an opiate antagonist although having the same opiate like effects). BTW I have had to take these and others due to my medical issues also from Osteoarthritis and seeing that he quoted directly that he was take pain meds, made me think of the worst. Not saying he isnt considering the rampant abuse of oxy in general among Hockey players and just about everyone else in the modern world right now but I hope its more sedate medications. -

WTF??? Can anyone tell me what pain meds are authorized for use during competition? If this is opiate pain medication, he has no reason being on the ice. He is not only risking the play on the ice, he is risking himself in general. I would consider full contact professional hockey to be about 15 clicks up from driving on the dangerous scale and you arent allowed to drive while under the influence of narcotics. I seriously hope this isnt a typo because if it isnt there is a whole string of people responsible if he is seriously injured by a hit while playing and they cleared him to play knowing he was drugged. -
As much as I am behind this post and understand your frustration with the people that are leaving the team for dead, I think the sheer fact of starting this thread is counterproductive to you original intent. Everyone that takes offense to being called a negative nancy will be in here trying to explain their case even though you ask them not to. I for one think the Wings got this round, I dunno how many itll take but I really do believe that the Wings go into a different mode of playing come playoff time. Im not particularly excited that Cleary has now admitted that he not only has a cyst but also has degenerative osteoarthritis. I had it after 6 surgeries from an impacted acetabulum (my thigh bone went through the hip bone, like jumping off a 4 story bulding and landing on your feet) sustained from a bad moto wreck. For one year, my bones werent healed enough to have a hip replacement and merely existed in the pain from the bone on bone movement. If he is that bad he needs to sit it out. I required pretty hefty doses of oxy just to walk. If he isnt taking anything and is even 20% of what I was he has no reason to play. This isnt a play through a mild fracture or any injury that can be heavily taped, this is a situation that every movement is affecting him and as such needs to go on LTIR. Beyond that one I am confident the Wings are going to win. Who can remember a time we have played the Preds and werent a little apprehensive about the match up? They are a tough team that likes to grind it out. Things havent changed much since the last time we took them out so this shouldnt be any different. My best guess is we take it in 6, thats what we've beaten them by the last few times we played. Oh and GO WINGS

I have been complaining among my buddies and they seem to agree that the points structure and seeding structure needs to change. The first part of it is the Phantom Point. When going to OT all of a sudden a point that never would have existed shows up for the loser. I am of the opinion that the way the Tournament style points are delivered are a much better distribution of points that allow Great teams to dominate, Good teams to stay in it and Bad teams get left out. Its the 3-2-1 system. Three points are available for a given game. You win the game in Regulation you get Three points. If you go to OT then the Winner takes two and and the loser gets the leftover. This has a ton of upside. First if you are a dominate team then you will dominate the ranks, as you should. There is no reason for a good team to be within two points of a horrible one just because of a everyone gets to win points structure. Obviously two teams that are very evenly matched will typically go to OT. Considering that it so close you make the reward that much closer. This has a two-fold effect on teams that go to OT a lot AND LOSE. These teams will more than likely miss the playoffs but they wont be dead last. These teams will be the 10th, 11th and 12th place teams. The three points will also allow teams that were having a bad streak to catch up with a good run of games. It will allow for good teams to still have close finishing places but will also weed out the crap teams fairly early on with a chance to sneak in if they really put a good string of wins together. The other piece of the pie is the seeding. I am having a HUGE problem with the 3rd seed, this year being a big disparity. We are talking something close to 10 points between 3rd and 4th with 4th being the one with more points. Im of the opinion that if 1st in a division cant get in the show, that they have a Wildcard spot being 8th place. This would be a very rare occurrence. It would require a situation like the Full Central division plus the Nucks, Calgary and Oilers. Since that isnt very likely then the Wildcard would never need to be invoked and you just seed by points. So, What says You? Do you think Im off base? On the mark? Or do we need to go back to the old way with Ties and split the 2 points? Im curious to hear what the bigger opinion is because Im not too keen on whats going on now.

I wonder if Ryan Lambert from Puck Daddy read this post since it not only touches on a 3-2-1 points structure but also how seeding is causing issues with embarrasing placement (read PHX and FLA) Puck Daddy says that the NHL points structure sucks I didnt get a citation but it seems timely.

Unless Illitch is low on cash (totally possible) Parise is ours. Holland isnt adverse to offering huge contracts, look at Z and Mule. Those contracts arnt what youd call mediocre by any means. Its tough to say what players are willing to accept as far as length but I hope if we sign a Parise or Suter its for 3-4 years. Its obvious that the guys that get a lifetime contract tend to save themselves to kepp the checks coming. Z and Franzen dont play with the fire they used to just like married couples tend not to impress each other the way they do when they start dating. We better sign Parise so long as it doesnt cost more than 10mil/year at that point Holland better start BSing about the virtues of Detroit and sell the s*** out of the offer, anything less and Holland needs to go BYE BYE
