Brian Rafalski announces retirement after 11 NHL seasons
Red Wings Addict replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
Well yeah we can't forget about Kronwall. For some reason, probably because of his first name, people expected to him to be the next Lidstrom. I hope now people realize that's preposterous. However, I do think he can be the "next Rafalski" with slightly less of a points average, quicker speed and more of a physical edge. To me Ehrhoff would be a luxury. And somewhat Bieksa. It would be awesome to get either. -
I'm sure that's what a lot of us on here think. It probably isn't what he feels right now.

I'm not sure if the Wings need to look for a Rafalski replacement. I think the Wings hope that Kronwall feels a little more urgency to step up as the new #2 offensive dman, takes another significant step forward and then his production will help fill some of the gap missing from Rafalski's offense. In that sense, what they might look for is a dman to produce 38-43 points that Kronwall did as he was the #3 dman, which makes guys like Ehrhoff and Bieksa look like some really ideal options right now. -
He's gotta decide what kind of defenseman he wants to be. Babs keeps talking about they want him to be more like Brad Stuart but sometimes it seems as if he prefers to use his stick and skill with the puck.

The official word is that he hasn't fully decided yet. Or hasn't made it official. The word on the street, however, is that he's done. How many people in here are holding out on the slim chance that he won't retire? It may not be the most popular opinion on here but you can count me as one who hopes that his body somehow magically re-strengthens itself for one more solid season. So that's one. Anyone else? -
(Insert joke about Thornton being a *****). I repeat... I'd feel bad for him if he wasn't such a diving moron.

"I'm going to take my talents to the Motor City." Hmm, nah. "I'm going to take my talents to Motown." Hmm, that's more for a musician than an athlete. "I'm going to take my talents to Hockeytown." Better. -
Me too.

I wouldn't be surprised if they employed Logan Pyett as their 7th defenseman. I can already see the "We hope he can provide a similar role that Derek Meech did for a couple years." -

No need to panic, we have Doug Janik? -
I wish a national writer somewhere would echo the same sentiments about diving in this thread.
-
EDIT: No but his agent knows that the Wings need Biggie even more now.
-
Probably jut eva. Haha.
-
Looks like his agent just found some more money for him if Retire is going to retire.

This suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. -
Not liking that Holland said "runner up."
-
On one hand, the Wings couldn't get past a team that's getting their asses handed to them by the Canucks. So, you might think, "Wow the Wings really weren't that good this year if the team that beat them is struggling this badly in the conference finals." But when you look at the hypothetical Datsyuk/Zetterberg versus Sedin/Kesler match up and you gotta think that the Wings would have made it harder on the Nucks' top six than the Sharks have.

Any offensive geniuses available? Maybe MacLean should go back to coaching the defense and have someone else run the offense. -
Seriously, what is it with the lines threads?
