I wouldn't say he was terrible. That's pretty harsh. He made a very conscious effort to improve his defensive game and I think he made significant strides. At the end of the day he just didn't separate himself enough to kick down the door to the NHL.

I've now learned that it's a tougher question than I thought. At the end of the day, Pav, Z, today's game and the league are simply different. -Does that mean that Pav and Z can't be The Euro Twins anymore? Not necessarily. -Have they both grown individually to a point in which they hinder one another instead of compliment one another? Not necessarily. -Is the magic of the past worth the experiment of sacrifice in depth down the middle? Not necessarily. -Does age and the physical toll that results in decline in health along with the emotional toll of an 82-game season constitute a significantly impaired Euro Twin dynamic in comparison to the out of this world magic of the past? Not necessarily. -...Did I answer my own tough questions like Babcock does? ...Not necessarily, actually. A lot to consider for the main question.

Fact: Lines change many times throughout the season. Fact: Certain lines play together more than others for a clear majority of the 82-game season. Fact: Pav and Z still display occasional remnants of their "Euro Twins" magical chemistry. Fact: At the same time, Pav and Z as centers on their own separate lines leads to stronger depth. Fact: Bears... beets... Battlestar Galactica. With all that in mind, should Pav and Z play on the same line for the majority of this season (ES, PP, etc.)? Or is the magic all but dead in the water?

First of all, I thought they pretty much said Abdelkader will be the center on that 4th line during the Tootoo signing? Second of all, they have too many forwards already. Either they plan on making a trade or they're going to see if Emmerton can pass through waivers and be a vet in GR. In regards to Anderson and Sheahan, from what I remember, Andersson still has some balance issues on the ice in addition to his skating problems in general. I don't know how effective you can be if you have to keep picking yourself up off the ice. And Sheahan is still a little too young for my liking. It's still possible that they might go with one of these guys. It'd be a nice breath of fresh air for all those who expect the overripe treatment. Overall, even though I just stated they have too many forwards, my hope is that someone is still out there who they can sign as a quality 4th line center. I don't have any idea as to who that may be though.

I'm actually pretty surprised at the 50/50 results. It shows how times have changed I guess. Or perhaps it's telling about watching Pav and Z play together. The sacrifice in depth used to be worth it. I mean, the forward depth wasn't all that impressive the year they won they cup; they didn't even have Hossa. Then again more teams have gotten significantly better since '08. Gotta roll with the times I guess.
