This was more than true last year to me. I thought it was really bad when they sent down Helm to the minors to start the 08-09 season. Turns out it can get worse. -

Not that it has any potential impact but I wonder if his agent is shopping him around somehow. -
Should we expect a slow start from Alfie? No pre-season games for him yet so he can warm up for the regular season. We've seen slow starts before from players who have to deal with injuries before the season starts.

I've felt this way pretty much ever since I became a Wings fan and so it's not likely to change anytime soon but we really need less Leafs fans at the Joe for these games if we're going to have this new rivalry. It seems as if it's a 60-40 split right now and that's way too close. Gotta baby step it to see if we can find a way to get it to 70-30. -

I actually like these quotes from Babs after this game. I think my favorite among those quotes was the "You can say that about lots of teams around the league." I hope he meant to say that the second unit is average (if not lesser) right now and that they have to be better if they want to be an elite team and not average with the other "lots of teams around the league." -

...they played it with an American football in proportion size to the puck? In all honesty, the puck makes enough crazy bounces as it is. But would a mini football make the game that much more unpredictable? It did so for the knee hockey game my buddies and I just played. He will earn every penny of that contract as long as he makes Crosby have his hissy fits and shuts him down and ensure that the Pens don't win another cup. Edit: Though I'm not trying to say that Giroux shuts down Crosby a lot. I'm just saying he'll be worth his contract to some Wings fans if he does so.

Kind of a meh-ish draft for my liking. Well, that is, for my initial reaction. Perhaps this year's crop is like a new album from one of your favorite artists that just doesn't move you right away but grows on you after a couple more thorough listenings, which isn't really a word, but you all know what I mean hopefully.
