Red Wings / Griffins sign Exelby, Pyett
Red Wings Addict replied to DangleDangleBeach's topic in General
How come? -
How about a fun thread to take our minds off of free agency for a little bit? Just as a preface, Jedi (one of the LGW mods) gave me the green light to start this thread. Thanks Jedi, btw! So, hopefully it doesn't get moved out of the General Discussion. As part of the July 4th weekend celebration, my buddies and I along with our families blew up some fireworks (as well as 'sacrificed' a few old toys), had a few drinks and got into some random discussions. We're all hockey junkies and movie buffs and so eventually The Mighty Ducks movies came up in conversation and we wondered what the Mighty Ducks team would look like if those characters were in the NHL today based on their primary strengths/weaknesses. In terms of NHL comparisons, we decided to stick with players currently active in today's game. For example, which NHL player would be most comparable to Adam Banks? We all immediately and unequivocally declared that the most fitting or perhaps ideal comparison would be Sidney Crosby. Steve Stamkos came up a little bit but only as a 2nd option if we felt later on that the Crosby comparison is too ridiculous...

NHL Comparisons for The Mighty Ducks characters
Red Wings Addict replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
Good question. Of course, I'm sure it happens all the time when kids are young and try every position but I bet you're asking in regards to perhaps going from a junior level to a men's league. Anyone? -
Anyone made any jokes about Kane and cab drivers yet?

NHL Comparisons for The Mighty Ducks characters

Bombay is head coach for sure. Hans directs the offense and Ted Orion runs the defense. Jan is the head athletic trainer. -

So I compiled all the comparisons into a lineup. How would a team like this one fare in today's league? Jonathan Toews-Sidney Crosby-Nikolay Zherdev Dan Cleary-Matt Duchene-Ryane Clowe Mason Raymond-Eric Belanger-Radim Vrbata Darren Helm-Jason Krog-Darren Haydar Shea Weber-Luke Schenn Dustin Byfuglien-Dan Girardi Mark Fistric-Mike Weaver Jonathan Quick -

Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

"Well, I think if you'd looked at the market, and Jonathan Ericsson had (signed elsewhere), I think he would've gotten a much bigger raise than we gave him," he told Matt Shepard on WDFN-AM 1130 Detroit. "He's 27 years of age. He's 6-foot-5. If you look at defensemen, and there's guys around the league that, really – 29, 30, 31 ... defense is such a hard position – there's those guys that hit the league at 23, 24. They're probably going to be the superstars. "Jonathan Ericsson is still a work in progress, like most 27-year-old defensemen, and he's 6-foot-5." "It's all market-driven," he said of the free agent salaries. "As you saw, what happened from July 1 on, we had to make a decision in advance of July 1, and I think, based on what happened, we're pretty happy with that decision." http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/07/ken_holland_on_wdfn_red_wings_2.html -
Those who watched last year's WJCs got an awesome look at him.

Red Wings / Griffins sign Exelby, Pyett
Red Wings Addict replied to DangleDangleBeach's topic in General
Now that the Griffins have Exelby, I wonder if the Wings will look to trade Amadio because he got his new contract from the Griffins, not the Wings, who are now the ones in charge. -
Apparently Keefe won't be back either. Yikes. Nor Jordan Owens. Old school grinders are simply not welcome in GR.

Niiiiiiice. Looks like GMR has a replacement. Yeah I said it, what? What?
-
I'm still mad at him for scoring on Ozzie from center ice.

The only problem with Babs is that he doesn't wear this hat enough...

"We feel good with the people we have," Holland said
Red Wings Addict replied to Barrie's topic in General
The "We like our team" or "We like our depth" part I recall him saying every summer but not the "We're ready to make another move or two" part. More power to you if you can find articles that say otherwise but my guess is he only says the latter when he has more of a willingness to make a move. -

It's very possible. Kronwall, Ericsson and Kindl get injured while Smith is also injured in the AHL. Lidstrom-Stuart Janik-White Exelby-Commodore
