i don't think that article is right this is what it says in the nhl constitution Page 25 Article VII 7.5 FYI, the commissioner is considered an officer of the league as it pertains to the constitution as stated on page 24 of that document http://multimedia.thestar.com/acrobat/0e/bf/faddf06240c5bf8d958eb8855bec.pdf

pretty sure that's wrong. it's 2/3 majority who are present at the meeting look at page 25 of the document that kip linked to. it takes 3/4 majority or unanimous to make any most changes or amendments to the nhl constitution. so any powers that bettman was granted, it took majority of the owners to approve them.

pa says league tried to sneak in hrr changes without them noticing. league says that they notified the pa of changes to hrr a week ago just another day in the life of the dysfunctional relationship that is the owners and pa -

even if the union files a disclaimer of interest, i don't think it automatically means the season is over. both sides know that they still have 8 days or so to work with to try to squeeze a little bit more out of each other -

yup and it has come to this lol http://www.jibjab.com/view/xcCmaKEmW8ofpaYF3eC0 and here comes the inevitable blow up -
it could be. but it still doesn't make sense to boo a general manager who has no control over those things.

the fact that neither side is whining/pouting to the press is a good sign -
the wings ownership voted for this lockout aka mike illitch. if you can find me a link that says ken holland is calling the shots for the red wings in this lockout, please share it with me and i will gladly take it back. there are much more effective and productive ways for fans to express their anger( i.e don't go to games, don't buy merchandise, don't buy center ice, etc). booing a gm who most likely has no say in this lockout makes the fans look ignorant and foolish imo
-
sorry but that makes no sense. booing a guy who has nothing whatsoever to do with the lockout is not sending a message. might as well just start booing every person you see that has a red wings jersey on.

this is the kind of stuff that concerns me and why i am not getting my hopes up about a deal being done this has never been brought up by the pa until now. now the pa wants to make this an issue when we are so close to getting a deal done? -

I refuse to get my hopes up until its official. All it takes is for The owners or pa's ego to rear its ugly head tomorrow and we will be right back at square one -
to be honest, i would rather get swept in the finals than lose in game 7. much easier to simply forget about it and move on. i think game 7 09 cup finals is going to haunt me forever edit: quote tags are jacked up for some reason

judging by this, i'm willing to assume that the league will cancel one more week's worth of games to get training camp in with the season starting around the 20th just like in 1995

another little tidbit in the the nhl's offer was that all non playoff teams would be eligible for the lottery draft with the goal of reducing tanking late in the season -
it's only december 28 today. they have until January 14 to actually sign a deal imo. that gives them a week or so of training camp and then the season starts in late janurary. i think we are in for 2 weeks of intense negotiations. if nothing comes out of this at the end of 2 weeks, then the season will be cancelled i think fehr will try to squeeze a little bit more out of the owners before signing a deal.

nonsense. only the nhl can use the "fans coming back" card the players are just innocent bystanders who only care about the game of hockey -
that's true. but the labor war didn't begin until the players started striking. kind of ironic actually
-
disagree. there is still 2 weeks for a deal to be made. this is far from over

meh. i'm done with getting my hopes up. i'm sure the pa will find something in their proposal that they don't like and talks will blow up accordingly -
i just don't understand how people can't see both sides as being nothing but villians when both sides have displayed instances of bad faith negotiations during this lockout.
-
whereas blaming bettman as the only one responsible for this lockout is equally unfair. bottom line is both fehr and bettman have been known to push the envelope in negotiations. both of them should be treated like villains, not just bettman
-
if i would have to guess, it will be called amway arena
