why is that ridiculous? the nba has a 5 year max for players signing with their returning teams and 4 year max if they sign with another team during free agency

i don't either but the fact the owners moved on the economic issues makes me positive that we will have hockey by the time the winter classic comes around. i doubt the season starts november 2nd though.

you must know some pretty high up people if you have access to that information considering how tightly vested the league and pa keep team financials

Russians Possibly Staying In KHL After Lockout

depends. does the IIHF want to buttheads with the NHL on russian players that breach their contracts. remember the nhl can just say f you to the olympics and not allow any of its players to play. then it would be the russian players against 3rd rate competition. i hope one of these russians players stays over there so we can see how it plays out (not datsyuk obviously).

Remeber though that revenue and profits are 2 different things and is something a lot of people are not understanding here. people see $3.3 billion and automatically assume that is all profit but it's not. another issue is that for the big market teams like toronto, detroit,etc.. profits have gone up but for the smaller market teams profits have not gone up, but you can bet that the costs of running a team have gone up across the board. but i do agree with the players in that the owners should have to honor all exisiting contracts with no rollbacks. it's the owners who gave them the contracts in the first place.

sure i do. but you are forgetting that cleary is one of the guys directly involved with these negotiations. He's the one going on record saying that he would be willing to lose a season or more to get what he and the players believes is fair.

this quote from dan cleary disgusts me. nothing but bs. everyone knows neither side gives a damn about the fans. stop trying to insult our intelligence.

Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

i wasn't aware that you had the details of this proposal? please enlighten me. for anyone that wants to watch the video follow this link and then click on the video titled "would a mediator help cba talks?" for whatever reason it won't let me link the video directly to this site

Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

meh. i don't agree but whatever. the bigger issue here is that neither the players nor the owners refuse to budge and we have already lost 2 weeks worth of games with more likely getting cancelled this week. was watching a hockey central video on sportsnet.ca today and one of the guys on there said that fehr had a proposal drawn up and ready to go a while back in which it leaned more towards the owners demands, but the players said no to it.

Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

i guess we just have a different view on demand to me, when someone (the players) doesn't want to do something(negotiate) until the other person( owners) does something (take rollbacks off the table), i look at that as being a demand.

Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

I have to disagree. Dynasties tend to create more interest for the casual fans because it gives them a team to root against. This past nba finals with the heat had some of the highest tv ratings for the nba finals ever. As a casual fan of all the other sports except hockey, I find it way more enjoyable to watch the playoffs in which there is a villain

Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

you are right in that the owners are demanding salary rollbacks. but the players are demanding that there be no salary rollbacks and refuse to negotiate economic issues until that demand is met. You can argue who's demands are more reasonable but to say that the players aren't demanding anything is false imo. the fact is both sides have demands that right now aren't being met by either side and is why we are at a stalemate with these economic issues

Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

both sides are making demands, otherwise we wouldn't be in this mess the players demand that there be no salary rollbacks. the owners demand that they get higher percentage of league revenue.

no it's not both sides are at fault right now as neither side seems to eager to start discussing economic issues. owners want the pa to come up with a new proposal. the pa wants the owners to take out salary rollbacks. both sides are dragging their feet on this issue right now

Russians Possibly Staying In KHL After Lockout

i'm not sure about that. the IIHF can bar players from the olympics. it's a murky area and would be very interesting if a player like ovechkin decided to stay in the KHL after the lockout is over http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1268635
