Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?
chances14 replied to stevkrause's topic in General
the problem is that those same owners allowed bettman to become virtually untouchable. -
it's not about me reading the comments. tell me, what good can possibly come from the both sides arguing with each other through the media about who is right or who is wrong? bingo

Vote to get Griffins games on Fox Sports Detroit During Lockout
chances14 replied to chances14's topic in General
it's not surprising but it is disappointing. michigan is one of the few states where minor league hockey is even remotely relevant but it still isn't enough for it to make a dent in the media. of course there are. but they are few and far between compared to football, baseball, and basketball fans. Minnesota disagrees with you. Even high school hockey is pretty big over there. -
saw this posted on hfboards so i figure i would post it here as well. fsd is is letting people decide what to show in replace of red wings games if regular season games are cancelled Vote for the griffins! http://www.foxsports...ges/viewerform/

Report: NHL may cancel Winter Classic by November if no CBA deal
chances14 replied to a topic in General
It would have been nice if one of the refund policies was for tickets to next years winter classic because I do think that it will be in Ann Arbor again. Who knows they still might offer that though I doubt it. Another route they could take if it does get canceled is to allow people who purchased tickets this year to have first dibs on tickets next year. -
a nice article on a breakdown on where the players are heading overseas too. the artilcle also makes a good point in that the teams like the red wings who have a ton of guys playing overseas will have an advantage over the teams who don't have a lot of guys playing overseas if a season is played http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/globe-on-hockey/nhlers-finding-temporary-homes-all-over-europe/article4605133/

i have to agree that i think the players should keep their mouths shut, just like the owners should and have. nothing good comes from either the players or owners bashing each other through the public. i don't know about anyone else but i am tired of going to mlive and every day it seems there's a new article with zetterberg quotes criticzing the league and the owners. we get it, you don't like or agree with the owners. repeating it dozens of times to the media isn't going to solve anything.

that could also be a pr move by the NHL. The players think that the winter classic gives them leverage against the owners. the owners are trying to show the players as much as possible that they couldn't care less about scraping the winter classic -
Vote to get Griffins games on Fox Sports Detroit During Lockout

fsd is showing 6 preseason pistons games and there is no ahl game to be seen on my directv guide -
it's easy for the russian players to say that they won't come back when there are no nhl games going on right now. i mentioned it in another thread but the entire zetterberg quote is so full of misinformation, it's ridiculous khl had salary roll backs just last year. players get cut and released from their contracts all the time. (hudler anyone?)

Our friend @HockeyyInsiderr lists anti-lockout teams...
chances14 replied to Wing Across The Pond's topic in General
this video was brought up in the old lockout thread. i think it speaks to boyle's quotes about how the owners are not all on the same page. -
Our friend @HockeyyInsiderr lists anti-lockout teams...
chances14 replied to Wing Across The Pond's topic in General
i think the owners that are against the lockout didn't want to appear to the union as not being unified, so they voted for it knowing that since only 8 are needed to approve lockout, their vote would be useless -
i don't like these quotes by zetterberg http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/10/red_wings_henrik_zetterberg_st_1.html i know zetterberg is frustrated but there is a lot of misinformation there. The KHL had salary rollbacks last year. players get bought out and released from contracts all the time (look at hudler)

lack of fan support IS part of the problem. New Jersey, columbus, nashville, phoenix, atlanta before they moved to winninpeg, have all ranked in the bottom 10 of attendance every year since the lockout. so while it's not the only problem with these teams, it certainly is a part of it. anyways back to the point in hand. Without the fans, there would be no corporate sponsors or tv deals. what company would want to sponsor or televise a league that nobody watches or cares about? do you honestly think that if there were no NHL fans, that the league would have made 3.3 billion dollars last year? i don't think so. and if the league doesn't make money, how would they be able to afford to pay these players millions of dollars?

It is a bit disappointing to see zetterberg bail on the negotiations but the frustration and desire to play hockey games is understandable

Datsyuk took a nasty cross check to the back at the end of his game today. I noticed he got up slowly. Sure hope he doesn't get hurt over there
-
I don't think North America and the United States especially could support 2 pro hockey leagues, simply not enough interest in hockey or money from fans to go around. Ultimately what would happen is one league folds or merges with the other league and we wind up in the same situation as we have now

I figured that since both sides urged each other to produce new proposals at last weeks meetings that they would have begin talking about economics this week but I guess not. Ridiculous. So I assume that neither side is willing to move even a little bit so that they can even being to talk about economic issues. And this is where both sides are at fault. No urgency to get this deal done
-
him leaving or staying doesn't really affect my mindset on this lockout. he already said previously that if games were cancelled that he would consider going overseas. this weeks cba negotiations are going to decide if we have a season or not imo.

according to the nytimes, escrow checks are 8% of the players 2011-2012 salary. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/17/sports/hockey/nhl-lockout-comes-as-some-players-go-to-skate-in-european-leagues.html?_r=0

seven KHL games slated for ESPN3 http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/8466483/seven-kontinental-hockey-league-slated-espn3-october they are also going to be re airing the games on espn2. but once again, pavel datsyuk gets disrespected by the hockey media. they are not bothering to show even one of his games.

and who do you think pays the players? The owners do of course. Fans give money to the owners, owners pay the players in part with that money Without the fans, the owners and players don't even have 3.3 billion dollars in revenue to argue about.

i was just responding to the post that said the players and the league don't owe the fans anything. i was not talking about who is right or who is wrong in these negotiation, but supporters of both sides cannot deny that all of them have showed no urgency at all to get this thing resolved up to this point. and that to me is the most frustrating part in all of this.
