i dunno about that from the article: to me it sounds like he is admitting that they will have to take a salary rollback, which goes completely against the NHLPA's current stance. the question becomes whether he was referring specifically to salary rollbacks or the players share of revenue

Z basically says Bettman should be fired

you have only been hearing that from the players that have already accumulated millions of dollars throughout their career and can afford to sit out. what about those 3rd and 4th liners? just like i believe that the owners aren't unified on this lockout, i also think the union isn't as unified as they want you to believe, judging by some of the recent comments i have been reading by players

Z basically says Bettman should be fired

Simply put, without the fans there wouldn't be an NHL and neither the owners or the players would be making the money they do. without the fans, there is no game to save. i spend probably close to a $1,000 a year on tickets, merchandise, nhl center ice, etc. In return, i expect that the players are out there on the ice playing to their best abilities. Take the winter classic for example, there are people from all over the world coming to this event who have already spent a lot of their hard earned money in travel and for hotels to come and watch these guys play. and all of that might be for nothing because millionaires and billionaires can't decide how to split up "our" money. when it comes to a new cba, as a paying fan, i expect both sides to work their asses off and get a deal done, but neither side has shown any willingness to put aside their pride and egos to get a new deal done

agreed. and i have to wonder if illitch is in that select group if the stories of him blasting the owners of the smaller teams in the last lockout is true

excellent article imo on why the players are fighting a losing battle and supports what i've been saying and that is both sides are too busy stroking their egos to give a damn about the game or fans. http://espn.go.com/n...ct-game-lockout also here's a couple tweets from pierre lebrun

exactly. if either side cared about the fans, this lockout would have already been over it is quite ironic how the players are fighting tooth and nail to keep a system that they lost a whole season trying to fight against 8 years ago.

it sucks that nbc was dumb enough to pay the nhl 200 million dollars this season regardless if games are played or not

    ESPN-KHL Deal in the Works?

the watchespn app is only avaliable to people who pay for tv through comcast, bright house networks, verizon fios, and time warner cable. espn3 is avaliable to only 73 million people, so the majority of people can't even get it if they wanted to

just go to this site to watch the KHL games http://www.laola1.tv/en/int/ice-hockey/video/224--.html

    ESPN-KHL Deal in the Works?

that's because espn3 is about as mainstream as versus was. espn3 is not even a cable channel, only an online channel available to people who happen to subscribe to an isp or tv provider that subscribes to espn3 so whils this is certainly a good start for the KHL, this is going to do nothing to put pressure on the owners to end the lockout

    [Retired] Official Lockout Thread

this was from dreger's article http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/darren_dreger/?id=406607 and this was from his twitter account daly claims they've done everything they can to start negoitations on economic issues, yet they know that the PA doesn't want to negotiate until they get rid of salary reductions in their proposal. as for the players, why not start negotiations anyways. just because you discuss salary reductions doesn't mean that they you have to accept them in the final CBA. just get your asses back to the barganing table and start working something out. but instead both sides are too busy stroking their egos to give a damn.

    ESPN-KHL Deal in the Works?

can't really compare poker to hockey. poker is best shown only in highlights because of the extremely slow pace of the game. besides, way more people play poker than play ice hockey. so while it might increase the interest level of the KHL for a while, that will soon vanish once the NHL starts up and you can start watching live games again during normal hours of the day. the only way i see the NHL start worrying about the KHL is if the top players like ovechkin and crosby stay over there even when the NHL starts back up, which will never happen.

    ESPN-KHL Deal in the Works?

keep bill clement away. to this day, i still can't stand his lovefest he had with peter forsberg every time the avs would play the wings. KHL will never be relevant on North America tv because of the 8 hour time zone difference. hardly anyone over here would be able to watch any of the games live
  16. The players want to believe it does but in reality, the owners will win once again, just like every time we see a lockout in professional sports. Fehr has done a good job on convincing players that sitting out for a year or more will make the owners cave (Cleary's recent quotes are a good example of that) but it will not happen. The owners have the upper hand because: -majority of them have money coming in on other things besides hockey. they can afford to sit out longer than the players because the players income comes solely from playing hockey. - the owners know that the fans will come back, just like last time. I remember in the last lockout, everyone said they were done with hockey for good. Guess what? the nhl had record attendance the year after the lockout. the same thing will happen this time. Hockey fans are by far the most diehard and loyal fans in professional sports and the owners know it. you guys can huff and puff all you want about abandoning the nhl if an entire season is lost but i gurantee all of you will be back. I think the players are banking on the winter classic being the reason that the owners give in, but they will be in for a rude awakening when bettman pulls the plug in november. that's when the real negotiations will begin. just my 2 cents

White as home jerseys or road jerseys?

i grew up watching the wings wear white at home but i loved it when the nhl switched the road/home jerseys. I think the red jerseys look better. they are the "RED" wings after all i think nhl rules state that each team must have a home and road jersey

saw this earlier http://themccabechro...h.html?spref=tw the top dogs and the face of the union players like dan cleary might be willing to drag this out for a year but i think the lesser known players like the drew millers and patrick eaves of the league are going to be squirming once their paychecks stop come october

a waste of legal resources. there is no chance that the pa will win on this issue. their time would be better spent on trying to get the owners and themselves to the bargaining table

Jimmy D Speaks out on Lockout, fined $250k

not me. i am pissed at both sides. mainly due to the lack of urgency both have displayed in getting serious negotiations done. but i will say at least they are "informally" talking. in the last lockout, nothing was spoken between the 2 sides until december.

    KHL/Overseas Games

if i was a player playing in russia, i would be more concerned with flying on the russian airplanes more so than suffering an injury during a game. but that 3 max nhl player rule would explain why the top nhl russian players haven't all signed on the same team. i had been wondering about that. that would be cool. by the time the scheduled start of the regular season comes around i'm going to be starving for any sort of hockey games featuring nhl players.

    KHL/Overseas Games

here's the KHL site http://en.khl.ru/ also, they have a youtube channel where you can watch highlights from around the league. http://www.youtube.com/khl and there are often streams to some of the KHL and other overseas games on this site http://www.vipboxsports.eu/sports/ice-hockey.html hope this helps i'm sure there's some sort of legal loophole that the owners will use

Yup. I don't really care that they are overpaid but I do get annoyed when people try to justify entertainers/pro athletes getting paid millions of dollars. There is none

Jimmy D Speaks out on Lockout, fined $250k

comparing doctors to athletes is ridiculous. these guys are entertainers, not nearly as important to society as doctors. not even close.
