Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses
chances14 replied to anthonyn66's topic in General
it is a big deal. not having nyquist last season cost the wings points in the standings early on. that could have been the difference between playing against boston or against a more favorable team like the penguins come playoff time. every single point matters -

Helene St. James @HeleneStJames 1m #RedWings GM Ken Holland: "My program has been one of loyalty and there's good and bad that goes with that. Way more good, in my opinion." so is holland himself admitting that the cleary signing is a bad one? -

as long as babcock is coach of the red wings, he isn't going to grand rapids -

do you honestly believe that? only reason babcock benched him last year is because he was injured. If he isn't injured, he is going to be playing, no matter how much he sucks -
Who has been Ken Holland's worst recent free agent signing?
chances14 replied to uk_redwing's topic in General
cleary's signing is by far the worst of holland's tenure. and i'm not just being a prisoner of the moment. holland has admitted himself that cleary was signed mostly due to loyalty reasons. awful, just awful -

no, judging by the 1.5 million term -

from what i've read it was alfie that said he wanted to wait to see how his back feels before deciding if he wants to play -
agreed tatar has already shown this kind of attitude in the past. i could see him pricing himself out of Detroit in the future if he is still with us, especially with holland and his hometown discount attitude. i don't think tatar would go for that

one game of cleary on the roster is one game less that a deserving prospect is going to get. this is an inexcusable signing -

but this is handicapping the team's future, which is why this is a terrible signing. he is going to bump down a prospect that should be on the roster we already have a logjam of prospects, we don't need a useless veteran clogging the pipes as well -

goes without saying but this is awful -
legwand was put into babcock's doghouse after completely misusing him once the wings started getting bodies back i don't think that would be the case with green.
-
you guys are acting like green is 100% guaranteed going to walk after one year. he has a no trade clause so if he waives it to come to detroit, i think there's a good chance that he gets resigned
-
yup. people want holland to make moves but don't want to give anything up. that's not how trades involving good players work. You can't trade your trash and expect to get something good back. this isn't a video game holland has built up a logjam of good prospects. there's not going to be room for them all down the road. might as well move some of them now to try to make a cup run while the window is still open

Kane & Toews Sign Identical 8-year, $10.5M AAV Extensions

or sharp one of them is going to be traded -
I don't think green is going to be a salary dump. The caps could fit him in and still have enough space to fill out their roster for the upcoming season. Plus, everyone knows that right handed defensman are highly coveted around the league right now. The only thing holland has going for him is that he's only got one year left on his deal, which might bring the price down a little, depending on how many teams are trying to get him I don't know how highly you think of Ferraro but i consider him a dime a dozen player. getting the rights to almqvist, a player whom may never play in the nhl again is pretty much worthless in my eyes. the best piece in that hypothetical trade is the draft pick, which isn't saying much. I would consider that trade a slap in the face if i was washington's gm if holland wants to make a run for the cup he needs to man up and stop trying to lowball other gm's to get good players. you got to give to get

the fact they didn't take hometown discounts bodes well for the rest of the league -
if i was holland, i would make it part of the trade where green agrees to resign that's not going to get it done. the fact that red wings are even suggesting that shows they haven't learned anything the last few years. You're not going to give other teams your trash for their treasure. this is all goes back to the issue we all have with holland. He needs to either gamble and make a run for the cup while zetterberg and datsyuk are still elite players or do a complete rebuild. This retooling on the fly stuff is not going to work
-
nah, i think you're going to have to give up one good cheap young player to get this deal done something like tatar, andersson, and 2nd holland might have some leverage here with the capitals close to the cap limit and green having only 1 year left on his deal. green has a modified no trade clause as well
-
khan seems to think mike green is the most likely trade target for the wings http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/07/detroit_red_wings_can_improve.html

Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 56s Ehrhoff obviously wanted to play in Pittsburgh because Wings never given opportunity to top that offer, which they would have.
-
niskanen flat out didn't want to come here Helene St. James @HeleneStJames 5m #RedWings offered D Matt Niskanen 7 years, $38.5 M but were told before free agency began Detroit not a destination for him.
