i wouldn't be shocked if he just went back to russia after his contract is up
-
it's not just the philly series, fleury's play in the playoffs has regressed big time since 07-08
-
matter of opinion, but he was definitely one of our most valuable dman when rafalski's play started to deteriorate.
-
perfect example of what i'm talking about.
-
sure they are back on top now, 3 years after they won the cup. and they still haven't won anything yet but the point i was making is that all the depth roster players they lost clearly hurt them despite the fact they kept the core intact . they barely got into the playoffs the following year and then were middle of the pack the next year. 0 playoff series victories in that time.

the biggest issue i have with the holland critics is that most of them completely gloss over the good moves holland has made and only focus on the bad ones, in particular the hossa and franzen situation. Holland never gets credit for giving osgood another chance after the lockout when everyone said he was washed up he never gets credit for signing datsyuk long term right after the lockout ended. this board was calling for holland's head after that one. datsyuk is now arguably the league's best player. he never gets credit for trading for brad stuart during the cup winning season. he turned out to be our number 2 dman for 3 years after that he never gets credit for going out and getting rafalski the day after Schneider left back in the summer of 07 these are all moves that directly helped the wings win a cup but i never see any of the holland critics ever give him credit for these moves.

i like the morrow and iginla trades but murray is god awful and does nothing to improve their defense. the dude is slow as molasses. think of him as a slower version of brad stuart in his last year here. yea not good

still on top? the hawks haven't won a playoff series since their cup run
-
people always overrate these high profile prospects
-
he's 23 years old anyways, just because he is visiting all these other teams doesn't mean he won't sign with the wings. he is just doing these other teams a favor and checking them out. no need to burn bridges with teams before your career even starts by just completely dismissing thise who want you to play for them.
-
this red wings team right now reminds me of the kings from last season. don't score a lot of goals but plays suffocating defense.
-
i was taught the same thing. I was always the smallest player on the ice but i was never afraid to take a hit. as long as you know how to line yourself up against the boards you will be fine the majority of the time. i would have never tried to engage a player like that going into the boards, especially one that much bigger than me.

Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal
chances14 replied to a topic in General
awesome. i don't care about the uneven conferences. the fact that we don't have to stay up until 1am to watch games more than makes up for that. time to enjoy the cake walk travel schedule that the eastern teams have enjoyed for years. one bad thing i see coming from this is an increase in ticket prices for all the original 6 games. good luck trying to get a home game against toronto at decent prices -
i think edzo went over the line today when he said that the wings are the best team at getting away with interference calls, as if the wings are the only team who even attempt to interfere with the opposing team.
-
agreed. what he said today about the wings being the best team in getting away with interference just reeks of a sour grapes blackhawks fan. i still cannot believe that nbc lets this guy work national televised games involving the blackhawks either

One word: defense. St. Louis's defense tonight was awful. Worst that I have seen in a couple years when they have played the wings.
-
While mrazek did well tonight, lets not jump the gun. Jimmy Howard won his first career game but it was an uphill climb for a few years after that. Lets see what happens when the defense isn't playing well and mrazek has to stop several good scoring chances.

GDT 2/7 GDT : Red Wings 5 at St. Louis Blues 1
chances14 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Best overall team effort of the season. A very big and important win tonight. -
2 completely different situations. Mclennan's was so obviously premeditated that the nhl had no choice but to come down hard on him. I believe that Jim playfair(Calgary head coach at the time) was also disciplined by the nhl.Franzen's situation was a quick second reaction to dirty hit from behind. the 5 minute major and game misconduct (which was the right call) should be the only discipline he gets. I suppose a fine will be in order as well.

GDT 2/1 GDT : Blues 3 at Red Wings 5 (Z with Hat Trick)
chances14 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
agreed. wings have been shafted by the refs way too many times in the past for me to feel guilty about a call that goes our way for once. special teams continues to be a huge problem, especially the powerplay. i know they scored 2 powerplay goals but it was pretty much non existent outside of that. It's like every player on the wings suddenly goes into slow motion once the powerplay begins. you can pretty much predict where every pass is going to go. -

GM Ken Holland says Red Wings might not make playoffs this year
chances14 replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
I don't understand why this is such big news. Every year, holland suggests that they aren't a lock for the playoffs, which is the right mindset imo. you never want to go into the year thinking that you are going to automatically make the playoffs just because you made it the previous year. babcock will be fired long before holland is -
i would not be at all shocked if he ended up here. it would be a holland esque signing.

Holland has only traded two roster players since 2002
chances14 replied to Dave Anderson's topic in General
i think holland's trade record should be judged on the players that he has brought in rather than simply looking at the players that he has traded away.
