  1. While Nyquist is a little bit on the small size, I just don't understand why the Wings aren't giving him a more prominent role. Anyone who has watched him play in Grand Rapids can tell that he is by far the best player on that team. Granted I know its not the NHL, but I'm from Grand Rapids and have been to tons of Griffins games the past 2 years and he is always making plays, creating turnovers, scoring big goals, etc. He carried the line of him, tatar, and andersson on most nights...the reason Tatar and Andersson have been having their best years when in GR.

Now while I like Tatar and Andersson and what they bring to the Wings, it seems like Gus should be up instead. Only reason I can think of as to why they are keeping him in the minors is because of contract reasons. The Wings need all the cap space they can get and without Nyquist on the big club proving what he can do they wouldn't have any reason to have to pay him big bucks next year. They can easily sign him to a couple year deal worth a million or so instead. This is just my theory, but I have no other explanation as to why he isn't up and cleary and abby remain on the 2nd line instead of someone like him filling in with Dats.

  2. I personally like this signing and think there's a lot of over reaction going on...don't neccesarily like the cap hit, but Tootoo brings something that the Wings have been missing the past couple seasons. While I did hate him while he was on Nashville, I think he will quickly become a fan favorite in Detroit and I'm glad we don't have to play against him 6 times a season. As for Sammy, thats a whole different story, but 3 out of 4 today isn't bad!

  3. This is kind of crazy! If they are going hard for Nash then that probably means Parise is out. I would love Nash on the Wings but kind of afraid of what we'd have to give up. Hopefully we could give them Franzen in the deal and keep Flip, but most likely would be Flip going, plus Nyquist, plus Ouillet/Sproul/Jurco, plus every pick in next years draft lol, plus plus plus...Howson might even want Datsyuk and Zetterberg while were at it...getting nervous!

Would rather go after Bobby Ryan or Evander Kane...would be much cheaper and we'd be getting much younger!

  4. It's probably going to depend on training camp and how he is adjusting. My guess is he'll be on the Wings roster though. I'm sure he wants to come here to play in the NHL, not the AHL, so I am assuming the Wings have all but guaranteed him a roster spot or he probably would've signed with a team with less depth and a better chance to make the team. Just my opinion though. I know they sent Brunnstrom down last year, but I feel like Brunner is a much better player than Brunnstrom and has way more upside.

  5. He'll be a 3rd/4th liner if anything, inwhich he should be on Helms wing... as a third line with helm centering and brunner on his right wing with that beaut of a shot and speed... SPEED OVERLOAD BOYS. But seriously, Helmer should have a hell of a season with Brunner... I think.

Didn't think of him on Helm's wing, but that could be a deadly combo. Both have tons of speed and Brunner should be able to finish if Helm can't. Like it!

  6. Cap hit wise with long term deals:

    Parise cap hit $7-7.5 million

    Suter cap hit $6-6.5 million

Remember these are cap hit numbers, their actual salaries will be more. With long term deals I think these would be fair cap hits based on comparable players.

Suter I think will thrive here, I don't believe we have a shot to land Parise (although I hope i'm wrong)

If I'm Holland though, I'm throwing a truck load of money at both and take the risk.

If we don't land Parise, Semin would be the logical option. For all of the flack Semin gets on the boards, I think he'll be a pleasant surprise to everyone next year. Datsyuk just needs to get him to buy into the system.

Bring in Konopka to punch faces and win faceoffs as well.

I agree with Semin as a backup plan. He is a natural goal scorer who lacks motivation, but a change of scenery and a new system/playing with Datsyuk, could change that. I would say that he'd be well worth the risk if he can be had at a 1-2 year deal for no more than $5.5 million. I think he'd easily be a 30 goal scorer with Datsyuk centering his line.
