I just worry about what happens if all these games are really profitable. How long until every team plays one outdoor game per year, throwback sweaters and all.

I think Bert will be a big help. With Pavel he's good and he could help us if any of these last games go to the shootout (I've stated this in other threads). Helm is great on the PK and he's fast. We aren't the fastest team and if we meet Chicago it can't hurt to have a guy who can keep up. Of course, that's if he were coming back which...he isn't. Samuelsson I honestly couldn't care less.

I respectfully disagree.Bert is effective with Pav and more importantly Pav likes playing with him. He's helpful in the shootout and with us fighting for every point we can get, a shootout point can make or break the end of this season for us. Last, we only have one player that anybody is even remotely intimidated by (Tootoo) and with Bert we'd have another. I like having a big, tough, guy on a line with Dats. Bert brings a lot to this team. If you don't see that we're lacking in his absence, then we haven't been watching the same top 6 this season.

I love this contract. It really doesn't seem like an overpayment to me. Jimmy has carried this team in like 25% of the games this season. I think he'd be doing even better if we had a strong backup so that he wasn't so overplayed.

THIS.with threads claiming that "the Detroit diamond has lost it's shine" and complaining about our lack of free agent signings, you'd think everyone would be on board with proving that we are a contender EVERY year...not just when we had Nick.

High picks don't guarantee superstars. I mean, I even heard about one team that drafted a magician with their 171st pick! I can't remember what team it was.

I have always been a Bert fan and loved him with Pav. If we get anything from him being out for so long, I hope it's that more people will see what he brings to the team because a lot of people on here were bashing him hard last season.

If I see another post about Holland's "failure" to sign Parise/Suter I'm going to light my eyes on fire. Parise wanted to go home. Suter is in love with Parise and didn't want to do long distance. Not Kenny's fault.

I completely understand realistic expectations but this thread is just to celebrate his progress. I don't think anyone was arguing that it didn't take an incredible amount of hard work from a lot of people to get him t this point. Maybe this just isn't the place to shut down people's high hopes for Vladdy with opinions on how limited he will be. Let's just admire how far he's come.

I think the timing of this article has to do with the fact that even though the Wings are struggling, we've lost more in the past 2 years than most teams could overcome and while we haven't exactly thrived, many people were calling for us to fall a lot farther than we have. Sure, we are bad by Wings standards but there's a lot of other teams that would kill for a rebuild that looks like ours.

When I was 13 I had a crush on a boy that liked the Red Wings so I said I liked them too. Haha Then I started learning more about them and found out Stevie Y was born here and that they had made the playoffs every year since I'd been born etc. Then I'd watch them and everything they did just looked better than the other team and I'd find players I liked and see interviews with other teams and there was so much respect for them. Just ended up loving them. My Bruins, Oilers, and Van fan brothers were less than pleased.

Every season people make at least one post about how much the Wings have to travel. Now we take that terrible travel schedule and we make all the games closer together. And then we say he should be able to magically get used to traveling/playing every single day on top of adjusting to a new league with new ice. Dont't forget that all of this should take him less than half a season. Seriously, give the man a break.

I'm with the others saying you can't judge Brunner by this season. Next year is going to be crazy different. Also don't care if he is skinny, Gretzky was skinny. Haha no comparison between the two, Brunner can put on weight though so I'm not worried about that.

I feel like you'd be hard pressed to find a kid that plays with that much effort and that much speed that ISN'T injury prone.

I feel like there are 15 of these threads with a point by point explanation of what people want with each individual player. Can't they somehow be combined in a "what I would do if I were Holland" thread? As far as this particular one goes, I don't hate every idea but any plan that suggests trading Datsyuk is thumbs down for me. Yes, I WOULD rather lose him for nothing. I want that man to be a career Wing.

If the Wings don't make the playoffs it will be the only year that the haven't in the whole time I've been alive! I'd rather have a first round exit than miss them entirely. P.S. If we actually won the cup we'd maybe be the only team to be considered a dynasty AND an underdog
