Think about it this way: we were in similar situations when ott had alfredsson and we didn't. When you take him away from their lineup and add him to ours, we move ahead of them. I would consider us contenders, and I think ott is still a few years away

Yeah it's not like he's bad or anything. Anderson just seems to fit the lineup better. Emmerton never found his role. He could be a good 3rd-4th line center on another team

Agreed. Alfredsson for 1 year is way better than clarkson or 7 years. Especially since its fairly likely that he won't score at the same pace for 7 years

The best thing they can do is put our 5 top-6 caliber players in the top 6 and give Abby the last spot. Then do a speed line like last year (nyquist- helm- Tatar or nyquist-Anderson-Tatar). The 4th line would be whoever is left over that doesn't get traded away

No offense, but I haven't agreed with anything you've said. Holland already said he's better. He's playing in the prospects camp. It's been reported that he'll be ready for training camp. I came into this offseason thinking that however lands clarkson will have made the worst deal of the year, and I thin I'm right. (Funny that its the leafs that ended up making the terrible deal) Alfredsson is perfect because he is still really good, he wants to win more than any other free agent (except maybe iginla) and he didn't require a long commitment. What more can you ask? To me, the Weiss deal means either emmerton or Anderson is out. Hopefully it's emmerton because I think he's pretty much expendable

I think were miles better. I would have loved bobby Ryan, but Ottawa gave up a ton for him. Silverberg is likely going to be better than every one of our prospects, and he may end up being better than Ryan as well

Beyond datsyuk Zetterberg and franzen, we have no top sixers. (I do agree with you that nyquist, Tatar and/or brunner can play in the top six) alfredsson would only take up 1 spot, so we would still have 2 spots available to test those guys out. Plus he's probably dying for a cup. There will be no lack of motivation Thank you!

Why does nobody here want him? It's way better than paying way too much for way too long for an overrated guy like Clarkson. If he's around for a year or two, then our prospects will be ready to step into the top six when he leaves.

Lebrun is one of the most reliable sources out there, along with Dreger and McKenzie. I'd take alfredsson in a heartbeat. He's one of the only available free agents who won't require a several year commitment. Our prospects will be ready to be top 6ers in a year or two

Pretty much. This exact team will compete for the cup within the next 2-3 years. With the amount of young talent coming up through the ranks, its safe to say we'll get better every year until Datsyuk retires.I wouldn't mind a 2nd line center though. I just think the odds of him making a list like this are far too high for Kenny to throw 6 mil at him. If he continues this pace, then you'll be right and ill be wrong, but I firmly believe Kenny is doing the right thing by staying far away from this guy

I would have wanted him for over 5 mill but no more than 2-3 years. It is funny seeing some of the reversals though
