gdt Post-GDT ECQF Game 1: Red Wings 3, Lightning 2 (DET leads, 1-0)
wingsfan4795 replied to Matt's topic in General
A lot of nyquist and Tatars struggles I think came from being matched up against the stamkos line for much of the night. I'm sure that's a matchup cooper with stick with in tampa's home games. I would imagine Babcock will try to avoid that matchup and maybe try to match Datsyuk's line against them. As far as the defense goes, someone said we played really bad defensively but I actually thought the opposite. We lost the puck possession game really badly and gave up a lot of shots but I thought everyone was in the right spots, clogging the middle and forcing outside shots that Mrazek didn't have any problems with. The best news of all is that we have so much to improve but we still got the win. I don't think we'll see a game as lopsided as this one again -

I just hope all the players get Ovi-level drunk for tomorrow's game -

Montreal did it better, proving once again that Toronto is and will always be Canada's #2 -
I think Larkin got it twice

Was anyone else extremely unimpressed with McDavid? He essentially whiffed on 2 golden back-door opportunities and ran around hot headed the whole game (perks of wearing the cage I guess). He's obviously going to be a great player but all this "next crosby" bulls*** seems to be just that. If you ask me, Eichel seems to be the more NHL ready of the 2. He knows how to control the play and his passing ability is phenomenal. Of course this is all based off of a tiny sample size and I wont pretend to be any sort of expert. What does everyone else think? Also, can we all agree that this is the worst team Russia has iced in years?

Yay it's the time of year when wings fans turn against each other!

I haven't been following this site in a while, but are you guys watching the same wings as me?? Of course they can contend! They're young They're fast They get solid point contributions from 3 lines and their defense Powerplay looks good Pk looks good Coaching obviously is good Goaltending looks really good They're grittier than last year They have the ability to come back in games They don't give up leads like they did last year They've avoided the injury bug for the most part Secondary guys have stepped up when our top guys have been hurt And most importantly, they play really well against good teams! The list goes on and on Maybe I'm crazy though

I was at the game tonight. Lots of wings fans in attendance, I don't know if they showed or talked about that on the broadcast. Overall one of the quietest NHL games I've ever been to but it was fun having wings fans on all sides of me to enjoy the game with.

Strong Penalty Killing, Lack of Scoring the Story of 2014 So Far
wingsfan4795 replied to adam_in_the_d's topic in General
I thought the Ozzie hall of fame/ jersey retirement debate was interesting, but I didn't think they made very compelling arguments. Hall of fame is one thing, but I think there's no way he gets his jerseys up in the rafters. Detroit is way more selective than that -
Given his sense of humor, sometimes I wish he would just sit back, crack jokes and make sarcastic remarks over the course of the game Given his sense of humor, sometimes I wish he would just sit back, crack jokes and make sarcastic remarks over the course of the game

Boy, these guys don't know what they're talking about. Maybe they should watch some games before they comment How are Nyquist, tatar, helm, Jurco, abdelkader, sheahan and Glendenning all the same type of player? How is Nyquist not a scorer? And Dekeyser is offensive? Haha -
I'm just happy price was such a stud for my fantasy team

Wings win 1-0 in a shootout because I have Carey Price on my fantasy team.
-
So if Franzen continues this pace and gets 0 goals and 164 assists would people call him lazy because he's supposed to be a goal scorer?
-
It's probably worth noting that legwand was demoted to the fourth line due to poor performance. I don't see why Babcock wouldn't demote Weiss if he doesn't play well as the 2C

Signed Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV
wingsfan4795 replied to marcaractac's topic in General
Haha if Tatar has trouble making the Slovakian Olympic team, there's a problem -
I don't think everyone has to stay completely healthy, just healthier than last year. They should be fine as long as Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't each miss half a season. As long as we don't have half our team injured at the same time.

Hockey News: Detroit has the easiest schedule
wingsfan4795 replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Blue jackets I would say are pretty comparable. I've always thought the Habs were overrated and they rode a hot streak to the conference finals. The bolts always seem to follow up a good year with a sub-par year. I think most of those teams are close enough to us skill-wise that either team could get the upper hand. I wouldn't call any team "clearly better than us" except boston -

There are 30 teams in the league, and 8 of them make the second round each year. That's just over 25% of teams. The average team should get to the second round once every 4ish years. I would say those other teams mentioned are below average. Since their last finals appearance, Detroit has made the second round 3 out of 5 years, or 60%. The FACT is that Detroit has been well above average in the last few years
