It is a shame that only 10k-20k showed up for the celebration. A larger crowd, I'm sure, would have been welcomed by the players and organization alike. Either way, congrats to the Ducks (It took me a while to develop the intestinal fortitude to type that). I guess the main point is that Anaheim is not the new Hockeytown no matter what a writer for a local SoCal fish wrapper says. IMHO, the only cities Detroit would need to worry about in that regard would be Montreal, Toronto, or Chicago if the teams in those cities ever returned to previous form. Cripes, if Detroit played Toronto or Montreal in the SCF I think at least one state and one province would just shut down. "Sorry lady, you can't cross the border today. Michigan's closed. I agree with this. I've come to think of LGW as the Drudge Report, AP Wire, and cable news all rolled into one of the NHL. (Don't get all bent out of shape about me comparing this place to Drudge's joint. It is a comparison [and compliment] regarding the speed with which stories/information appear - nothing at all to do with politics.)

Points well taken but I think they still underscore the horrific job done by the NHL marketing brain trust (that'd be sarcasm right there). Hockeymom's point about Game One being scheduled ON Memorial Day speaks to that as well. No matter how we measure viewership and attendance, I think we still come to the same conclusion; hockey as a whole continues to be marginalized.

It never freaking fails...the Wings (are) lose(ing) an elimination game and the XBox/PS3'ers NHL gods decide to call for the heads of just about everyone that got us to this point. From another thread, but which one of you wundermonkeys said the Wings would be lucky to finish the in the top eight in the west? Number One seed and just a few points shy of ANOTHER President's Trophy. Would the jackholes who claimed that the Wings wouldn't make it past game four of the first round please raise your hands? Yeah...didn't think so. Pipe down, root for the boys to do the next to impossible, and pat 'em on the back next time you see 'em. I think the original intent of the post was to say, "Babs has got it." I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion.
