Conklin let in about 4 or 5 goals last night that he should have stopped. Ericsson didn't have as bad of a game as his -3 leads you to believe. Emmerton's turnover, etc. Bad plays that the defense really didn't do anything on.
-
He's off to a slow start. That's where I'm gonna leave it. I bet he'll have 2 3-point nights in a row and everyone will be saying "there we go".

Can someone do some research on back-to-back games for the Red Wings? I'd like to know what our record is in them over the last 5 years. Seems like we're toast no matter who we play in the 2nd game. I bet it's like that for almost all teams, but it seems like the Red Wings get crushed every time. I'm going to blame the NHL scheduler for tonight's loss. We had 7 days to get in 2 fricking games, and we got stuck with Friday/Saturday. That's stupid.

Agreed. That 4th line looked terrible. Dats looked good tonight, and that's about it. The rest of the team looked out of shape.

Crosby says "Gary, Please?" when the lightning hits him. Then Bettman makes a rule banning Tampa Bay from the NHL forever.

I'd be surprised if Huds doesn't get 5 years / 17.5 million at end of season. He's got skillz. I'm not expecting anything out of Brunnstrom. I'm looking forward to Nestrasil and Smith, as far as our prospects go. Musak/Tatar as far as the young Red Wings guys go.

I don't think there's one red wings fan out there that would shake his/her head at a 7 year, 35 million dollar deal signed after this year to get Nick to 2000 games. I've been wanting Holland to lock this guy up for multiple seasons for the past 4 seasons. Electrophile just said it best = Nick's the man.

I'd rather see it rewound further back to when the Whalers had Gordie Howe. -
goalie stick slashes are awesome. It takes a lot of work to make it all go right.

There is NO WAY that Ericsson is 205 lbs. He is at least 225.
-
That fight was ok. Nothing special. Ericsson did what he could. Ericsson's positioning has been pretty damn solid so far this year. I think Kindl/Ericsson could develop into our 2nd pairing 3-4 years down the road.
-
I guess you don't think much of Cleary. I like Cleary. Yah, I guess you don't get it.
-
Filppulerberg. This guy was money tonight. Almost seemed like he and Z changed jerseys.
-
Franzen - Filppula - Hudler = on fire.

This is a good point. Stuart doesn't miss games and you know what you're going to get from him. I still think the Wings should let him go after this year. Time to bring up the youngsters. Lidstrom/White Kronwall/Smith Ericsson/Kindl The Wings are gonna need room to go after Parise and give Kronwall and Helm raises. They should be able to do this so long as they let the dead weight go.

How much of a steal was James Neal for Pitt?

This seems pretty Red Wings history based (Yzerman and Lidstrom)!!! Stamkos, Crosby, and Ovechkin are sniping goals all over the place in their early 20's. Defensemen are all over the map talent wise. Tyler Myers, Victor Hedmen, etc. should hit their primes sooner than 30. I think your statement would be pretty accurate 20 years ago. But today, players are developing younger and faster. The early 20's players seem to be dominating the early 30's players. And then there's Nick Lidstrom who just crushes at any age. He will be dominating 20 year olds in his 50's more than likely. -
so you're saying that Babcock has stopped Datsyuk for the last 5 years by having Holmstrom play on his line? I believe that. I think Datsyuk would be far more effective with more speed on his line = Helm/Filppula. I still think Bertuzzi and Cleary as linemates for Datsyuk wouldn't work out too bad.
-
I'd have him out there 20 minutes a night if I was the coach. He's awesome. If he got power play time and 1st / 2nd line players, he'd easily pot 30 goals and 30-40 assists every year. Then all this non-sense about Helm having no hands would go away. Helm misses on break-aways and people forget that the odds aren't in the shooters favor on those. They think Helm should be making 90% of his break-aways, and this just isn't possible. Fact is that Helm is the only one even getting break-aways on the Red Wings, and people should just be happy to see THAT!

ESPN insider article re: Wing's deadline cap space
Scott Stevens replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
Any trade for a UFA in the 4-6 million per season range is going to involve Smith and a future pick(s). The Wings aren't going to let that happen, though. To be realistic, the Wings are going to have to be content with what they have right now and firm up their 3rd/4th line guys for the playoffs. We have a solid team, but the Bertuzzi's and Holmstrom's of the team need to get their asses squared away and contribute, or make room for the speed we got on the bench. Mursak/Emmerton/Tatar/Nyquist should be gaining experience right now instead of has-beens padding their career stats. Babcock knows this and is trying his best to phase them out. -
If everyone's healthy, Hudler should be a third liner. The lines should roll like this: Franzen-Zetterberg-Filppula Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Cleary Hudler-Helm-Abdelkader Eaves-Emmerton-Miller Hudler is a GREAT third line player and an average to slightly below average 2nd line player. He's too small.

Good Call! Helm is a jet. He can pretty much create in any situation.
