WCQF Game 2 GDT : Red Wings 3, at Nashville Predators 2

Quincey has been a big disappointment. -
Kronwall was the other defenseman.

Not luck - poor defense. No defenseman in front of the net.
-
Press are getting the breaks, including Helm's wrist. I hope it's not broken. The Pp or lack thereof will be the end for the wings.

The collapse is a reality but not of their own doing. When a team loses the number of top tiered players like the Wings did, it was inevitable. As for the playoffs, I agree that the team will struggle and probably get bounced early. I still don't see Franzen being a hero. The wings have several Achilles heels. The wings powerplay has offered up too many short handed goals. I like their chances playing 5 on 5. I don't like their PK because they can't get the puck out of their own end. When the other team gets set up, look out. Before they were a powerhouse at home. Now they have trouble winning there as well. This team lacks discipline and will likely be in the penalty box way more than in the regular season. In past years we have seen this to be true. No reason to expect any less. Jimmy Howard, I hope, becomes Pekka Rinne and steals the show. He will need help from the defence and some goal posts. Another Achilles heel is the Wings penchant for giving up a goal in the last couple minutes of a period. What gives with that? They are probably the worst in the league in that regards, as well as giving up short handed goals. With that in mind the Wings are a great team with another 100 point season.

So far I tend to agree. He just brings his line down. He really shows no heart. If he only gets motivated during the playoffs, we'll be excited but that's not all he's paid for. Based on what he's done and how he has played for the wings this year, he will be a non factor in the playoffs. I realize he has 25 goals but for him, thare needs to be at least 15 more for me to consider him as a top player.
-
Even when he's in - he's out. He says he has to get his conditioning back. He has to get up to coasting speed. Like that needs a lot of work,
-
A week or so ago I mentioned that it was unusual for Franzen not to be hurt yet. Well - Bingo. Now he has a bad back. He will likely be out a week. That's all he needs - to find out that there is an easier way not to work hard.

People may disagree but this falls on all 3 coaches. The stats don't lie. No change has been made over the year. Babcock refuses to change his system although it is pathetic. Wher is Lidstrom's input. He's been sitting and watching. No ideas? I thought they watched tapes of their inadequacies. Ian White has begun playing defence like he did when he was a Maple Leaf. Franzen is a dud, not a stud. An ass not a mule. Sorry for the rant.
-
He's not in the front of the net because Bab's system doesn't promote it. Franzen is not usually in the shooting lane aka Brett Hull. This is a terrible waste the way Babcock has him playing. Is it not strange that Franzen hasn't been hurt yet? He can't get hurt because he's not in the action. When the PO start, he'll get pounded once or twice and he'll be done.

It's the system they play where the puck is constantly being shuffled to the point. If the point man muffs it for even a second, the rush is on. What makes me irate is that there is no one out front for a rebound. The players are either behind the net or along the boards. When they are passing, no one is in a position to shoot other than the point man. This is a very poor system IMO.
-
Never seen a team so incompetent when there's less than 3 minutes to play in a period. Fix that f****** powerplay.
-
Forget about the hitting. A much bigger concern is the inept powerplay. All year it has been like this. The wings have given up 8 SSG, most in the Western conference. This needs to be changed - the power play coach is using an over simplified system that all teams can combat. No one is in the position to get a rebound. Players are in ther corner or behind the net - feed it to the point where it eithe jumps over the stick of the D-man - or it's a wide shot or blocked which either leads to a rush or a clear. Rarely is there sustained pressure after a faceoff.
-
I'm afraid this is the start of the dreaded slump. When you see breaks going for the other team, you just know what's going to happen.
-
The way he plays brings all the hate out. As an experiment, I'd like to see Babs use Flip with Bertuzzi and Franzen. Put Dats with Z and Huds. Actually I think the wings need a big guy on each line.
-
You're being facetious, right? If we could get a true sniper, I'd trade Franzen in a heartbeat.
