Just a thought..... We went to a game in November because we wanted to see the Joe before it meets the wrecking ball. We went downtown around 11am, parked at the police station's secure parking deck. Then walked across the street to the Hard Rock Cafe, ordered a beer (to get the parking ticket validated so we didn't have to get mugged for parking) and then went about the afternoon walking around Tiger Stadium's gates, checking out Hockeytown Cafe, grabbed a coney (or three) and went down to the GM Ren Center on the waterfront. After the game, we followed a large crowd of people back towards Cheli's and Hockeytown to get to our car safely. It may not have been the most laid-out plan, but it worked for us. Regardless of what you do, be smart and have fun!

I think we'd have a better chance at getting the real Nick Lidstrom to come back before OEL ends up in the Winged Wheel.

If we trade with Toronto, the deal needs to include that all players involved must cross the Detroit River in canoes with all of their hockey gear.....go! -
gdt 11/22 GDT - Red Wings @ Maple Leafs - 7:00 PM EST

Are we just playing flat or are the Leafs actually bringing it tonight? I'm stuck watching the Bruins thanks to NHL network blackout of this game in Illinois. Don Cherry makes me want to finish this bottle of whiskey.... -

I'll be there too, let's hope Z goes on another point rampage! -
Funny story....if you want a Datsyuk update, we just saw him in a black Mercedes SUV at a stoplight outside The Joe! His shoulder is apparently fine, as he was able to wave back.

Well crap....attending my first game at the Joe tomorrow and was hoping to see him come back.

Signed Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**
turbowhistle86 replied to amato's topic in General
Its not like the guy scheduled a two week vacation to the moon and skipped free agency the last few years. There's plenty of info that suggests he kicked a ton of tires, made several intriguing offers, and in most cases those players chose not to come here for various reasons. He's not soley to blame for our recent downturn. You don't lose people like Lidstrom, Rafalski, and Osgood and replace them all right away...in some cases you may never be able to replace talent like that. -

You're right....being a GM is as easy as NHL 14 makes it out to be, what was I thinking? -

'District Detroit': Red Wings' New Arena Details Released
turbowhistle86 replied to TheCaptain19's topic in General
We all know it will be the Cleary Center! But in all seriousness, I'm glad to see that the Wings are getting the state of the art arena they deserve. Many of the newer venues are catering to the families and casual sports fans who expect a "show" besides just the game. -
Seriously? I know the cap is increasing, but is this crazy to anyone else? report-toews-kane-make-initial-asks-contract-extension sorry, link doesn't appear to be working, but it was reported on CSNChicago.com and by McKenzie on Twitter.

Kane and Toews both asking for $12M per year
turbowhistle86 replied to turbowhistle86's topic in General
10.5M each for 8 years.......nothing like using roughly 30% of your salary on two roster spots. -
Kane & Toews Sign Identical 8-year, $10.5M AAV Extensions
turbowhistle86 replied to _SP_'s topic in General
this is cute.....why don't they get married while they're at it and then they can punch cabbies together? There's no way Kane is worth that money! and don't get me started on Toews' playoff beard...... -
Holland is the no-brainer, not the contract.

With the money these guys make, they aren't shoveling snow anyway unless they choose to. This team will muddle through first round exits until there is a change in GM and coaching staff. Let's face it....playing with Z and Pav (who are arguably on the decline) is not enough to lure the young talent here. Plus they know that they'll likely be thrown on a 3rd or 4th line to maybe get 8-10 minutes a night. Ask yourself this (without the Red Wing blinders on) if you knew that you had a 6-10 year window, barring injuries, to make all the money you'd ever need and a chance to hoist the cup, would you want to make our current team your destinaton?

this lack of action from Holland is making want to go watch another lack of action......world cup soccer. -
glad he stayed out West.....

We have pylons of success such as Cleary and Samuelsson, great work ethic as demonstrated by Franzen, and are only a few short years away from a likely GM and head coach change.
-
yup.......we need some size and grit. Let Helm, Abby, Tatar or Nyquist be a top six winger for the future. Like him or not, Thornton's size and veteran presence get noticed on the ice. I bet many teams would be focused on shutting him, Dats, or Z down and it gives the other youngsters a chance to make a play. Heck, put him on the third line and watch him light up everyone's lower roster players.
