    WTF was that?

    Paul Kelly: Expansion coming

I've always had a fantasy about a Windsor team. Although it's not pragmatic. imagine how epic a Detroit/Windsor rivalry would be. The fan interaction alone would make it worth it. Plus, I haven't had a reason to go to Windsor since I've turned twenty one.Edit: I'm pretty sure Windsor has more hockey. Fans than Glendale. When you include the cities that are closer to Windsor than Toronto and Ottawa I don't think it's absurd to think there are enough people to sustain a franchise. There's no way that a Windsor team will have worse attendance than the panthers.

    Paul Kelly: Expansion coming

I like how he says that it's only logical because by doing so the league will reap the benefits of two more packed arenas. They could achieve the same thing by moving the panthers and the coyotes to the two locations mentioned in the excerpt. I don't see the need for other teams. I wouldn't even be opposed to dropping two teams. Either way, I think a few teams need to move at the very least.

Things that are better than the Wings special teams.

Yes, because that's totally a valid argument. You admit you have no real evidence yet you keep asserting your conclusion anyway.

    worse before better.....

I'm well aware of our history of bringing in complimentary pieces through trade and free agency. But, when was the last time the wings' premier player at a position was acquired in such a way? Every team uses players they never drafted. I'm just making a distinction between building through free agency and plugging holes.

    worse before better.....

Without a doubt. Perry and Getzlaf both have contracts coming off the books this year. I'm not sure which D-men are coming in this year, but I'm sure we can plug holes. I'm just excited about ouellette and sproull. Furthermore, this summer we may be signing dekeyser to an elc. It's hilarious how poorly equipped many of us are to deal with a couple years of mediocrity. It really is a testament to how well this team has been run. It has been the Modus operandi (MO)of this team to develop its core players as opposed to acquiring them through through trades and free agency.

    worse before better.....

It will probably suck for 2-3 more years. During this time we'll see more of our prospects and less of the old guard. It has always been the MO of this team to grow their own players. It's worked very well so far. Philly has tried building their team through free agency and trades, yet they keep falling short. I would rather go through a few years of low expectations than a few years of disappointments.

I was about to stop watching when Dallas cleared the puck. But, when I saw it was Brunner with the puck I had a feeling he was going to make something happen. I like that he kept going when all hope was lost. I'm becoming quite a fan of this guy.

1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

It's kind of hard for me to get worked up. I didn't think we were going to get a season at all. Not to mention the fact our lineup is very underwhelming. Whatever we get is a bonus. I wouldn't mind if we tanked the season for a player who'll have an immediate impact.

13 pro teams running out of fans

I would say that continually throwing money at a business that disregards its customers is the sign of a true dumbass. I love hockey too, but there are other sources that can satisfy my needs. I've been playing a lot more and it's been far more fun than just watching.

    Sheahan arrested for "superdrunk" driving

No, advocating something requires an endorsement of the action. He's merely providing the lgw community with statistical evidence that indicates Sheehan posed less of a risk than some here are indicating. I don't think anyone is saying OWI presents no danger, it is dangerous. I just want everyone to ask themselves something. When ascertaining culpability, do you consider the intent and state of mind of the person? Most people see an intentional act as different from an accident just as we hold someone who is mentally impaired to be less responsible for their actions than someone who has their faculties about them? Granted, Riley was certainly responsible for putting himself in such a state in the first place. This does not change the fact that he legitimately believed he was going to make it home without hurting anyone. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gotten behind the wheel. He may have been misguided in his belief, but let's not turn this into a speculative debate regarding his moral makeup. Not to mention, none of us have all of the facts. Breathalyzers can be frighteningly imprecise. It is not clear how long it was between sheehan's last drink and the BAC analysis. The presence of mouth alcohol can cause drastic fluctuations in the Breathalyzer's measurements. If one has consumed a drink within 15-20 minutes of breath analysis their BAC will be much higher than it really is. Burps are another common source of "mouth alcohol". Also when one considers everyone has a different body chemistry and tolerance, none of us can claim to be fully informed. Either way, this situation only proves why drinking to excess sucks. I prefer more natural forms of intoxication. When I go out to the bar with my friends I'll nurse one or two beers for the whole night while laughing at the drunks making asses of themselves. When the night's over I do't have to worry about how I'm going to get back home.

    Drew Miller

I started watching the video and noticed that something was weird about it. I was unable to put my finger on it until about halfway through the video when I realized what it was... The clapping. The only sport for which I've seen spectators clap is golf. I guess that's Scotland for you.

    Where would you go?

I'd play in the Greek Ice Hockey Championship. It would be more for the vacation than actually growing as a player. Honestly, I'm probably good enough to play for one of the clubs as it is. In Greece the quality of hockey is so bad that the national team is in the same division as Mongolia, N. Korea, and the UAE.

    Brunner VS. Rueger

At the 18 second mark, look for number 40 towards the bottom part of the screen.

    Brunner VS. Rueger

That's pretty cool. The NHL or USA Hockey should implement something like this. A lot of amateur hockey leagues are hurting right now. Not to mention the prohibitive cost is the main hindrance to growing hockey's popularity.
  18. The Greek

    Brunner VS. Rueger

They have no sense of proper fighting etiquette in Europe. There was one guy holding Brunner's arms while the goalie wailed away. That's just bush league.

Any NHL'ers from your home town?

Kesler graduated from Churchill the year before I started so we have many mutual acquaintances. Literally no one has anything nice to say about the guy. It figures, he said he was an Av's fan growing up, so he was one of "those kids".

Any NHL'ers from your home town?

I'm from Livonia, we have a few. Al Iafrate and Ryan Kesler definitely lived here. I'm not sure about Modano, he went to Livonia Franklin but I heard he lived in Westland. Brent Johnson lived in Farmington but he played for the Livonia knights. Honestly , with the quality of the Livonia Hockey Association from '80's to the early 2000's I'm surprised we didn't produce a few more.

    Monster All Padded Up...

The NHL rules mandate that goalie pads not exceed 11 inches in width. As far as "depth", it is common for goalies to have their thigh rises (padding above the knee) thinned out.

    Franzen Trade Bait? Possibly!

My mistake, I thought it was the blue jackets with regards to the game against the sens. A far as the islanders go, I thought he potted 4-5 against them in 10-11, but after looking that up it appears I was wrong about that one as well. Either way, I would only move him if we got a top 4 d-man out of the deal. If he stays I think it would be beneficial to put him on the third line.

    Franzen Trade Bait? Possibly!

This is true, which is why I said I'm on the fence regarding franzen. I never doubted his talent level. He did put up the most points, however, he seems to do so only in spurts. Furthermore, he has a terrible habit of floating around if he's not scoring goals. The other guys you mentioned are notoriously hard workers and still contribute when they're not scoring.

    Franzen Trade Bait? Possibly!

What are you laughing about? I said "a lot", not "all". I was referring to instances like when he scores five goals in one game against a no name opponent like the islanders or blue jackets, or when he scores a late goal in a game we have no chance of winning. Those types of meaningless points pad his stats.
