This was a much needed win. However, what's more important is how it was won. This game is kind of like a microcosm of the last few weeks, and stands as proof that the wings have the ability to turn it on and win when necessary.

I haven't been here long, but I can guess that you guys were ready to start slitting your wrists when we went on that 6 game losing streak. I can only imagine how you guys were filled with immeasurable glee during that 23 game home winning streak. You guys are so bipolar it's crazy. One day Babcock and Holland are geniuses the next they're the worst at their respective jobs. One day Franzen is Mr. clutch the next he's trade bait. One day Zetterberg is the most valuable player on the team the next he's a lazy piece of s***. We're fans of one of the greatest sports franchises in history, grow a pair and act like it. If you truly believe that the wings are a great team it will become a lot easier to deal with adversity.

It's a hockey game, a form of entertainment, and guess what. Nothing you do has any affect on the outcome, it's asinine to freak out over such things.

I think it would be a better idea to move Hudler down to the third line (maybe the fourth once Helm returns). Meanwhile, we should keep Z and Fil together. Let Holmer play on either of the top two lines. I'm thinking something like this Fil-Z-Homer Bert-Dats-Nyquist or Fil-Z-Nyquist Bert-Dats-Homer With either of these line combos Holmstrom will either be providing an effective screen or attracting the attention of at least one defender. This will result in either better quality scoring chances or more space to make plays in the offensive zone. At the same time, Holmer's defensive lapses are compensated for by being on a line with defensively responsible players. Once Franzen and Helm come back there will be even more options. When we're healthy we could potentially ice a third or fourth line with Hudler-Mule-Cleary. Meanwhile, the line of Abby-Helm-Miller can be reunited. Guys like Mursak, Emmerton, Brunnstrom, and Conner give us even more flexibility. Either way, I'm liking our depth down the road, especially once our defense gets healthy.

I don't get it. He's had his knee drained like tree times in the last month and has been getting regular cortisone injections. There is no justification or keeping stu in over nyquist once healthy. Which does he have, a ntc or nmc?

This is something that really pisses me off. I hate how in the NHL as of late, if you make a big legal hit someone expects you do drop the gloves.

One of the first things they teach you about puck handling is to keep your head up. Our coaches would warn us-for 6 years before we were even allowed to start hitting- "if you skate with your head down in peewee you're going to get clobbered". Voracek knew someone was at the blue line, but he kept chugging along with his head down. That is way to sweet of a target for anyone to pass up.

During the 08 and 09 playoff runs my friends and I would often watch the games in windsor because we were not of age to drink on this side of the border. Both years the place was crawling with pens fans during the finals. All of the pens fans I spoke to said that they actually made the trip to watch the game. Of all the games I have actually been to, I have only seen chicago be able to muster up enough fans to actually rival our lets go red wings chants.

Riding the pine is a dysphemism (I had to look up the opposite of a euphemism) for sitting on the bench. It appears that hybrid goalies don't have that much staying power in today's NHL. I believe this is due to several factors. It is harder to be a hybrid goalie because it is more reactionary than playing a positionally sound butterfly style. This causes hybrid goalies to look worse when allowing goals, because it appears that they are just flailing about. Contrast this scenario with Luongo letting in a softy. Lu will usually look like he just missed the puck because a. he's friggin' massive b. he plays deep in the paint while maintaining position. It appears most good hybrid NHL goalies flame out after a few good seasons. Only the truly elite guys like Hasek and Brodeur are able to play the same style while posting consistent stats. This is because those two guys were freaks when it came to their level athleticism. I do hope this works out for Turco, I have always liked him.
