Exactly, he was going to leave buffalo anyway.

Franson alone will go for more.

I've never seen you around here, but you're alright.

I've never used the same one twice, so that should eliminate the chance of monster going to Toronto.

I'm not defending Kane, but Cherry's opinion is about as worthless as they get.

Marchenko recalled from GR... Ouellet sent down

I don't think so. I read that the wings are going on the road trip with 8 defensemem. -
This is literally the best post I've ever read. In all seriousness, I love this thread. I also love how the metric for success seemed to change and eventually disappear. First, it was "we should tank the season, because this team is so terrible it won't even be exciting." Then it became, "we may be winning now, but it won't last." Then it became, "the season is a failure if we don't make it past X round in the playoffs." Now, the negative contingent has resorted to saying that everyone else thinks Holland is God. For the record, I know most of us have been critical of Kenny at some point, but one thing is clear: he is way better at his job than any of us are.

If avoiding disappointment is the name of the game, why be a sports fan at all? You would avoid so much disappointment.

Forward: Mike Modano Defenseman: Chris Chelios Goalie: Mike Richter Sorry for deviating from the format. I feel like it's difficult to debate which player is better when they play different positions.

1/18 GDT : Sabres 4 at Red Wings 6 (Z w/Hat Trick)

This bears repeating. -
It's ok, a lot of people are frightened by things they don't understand.

I have tried both, I've been playing hockey since I was four. I wasn't saying there is only one save the goalie can make. I was saying there is only one place out of several possible ones that a shooter will put the puck. The goalie has to anticipate when and where the player will put it. Then he has to start adjusting before the puck even leaves the player's stick. If he guesses wrong by either picking the wrong spot or time, he has essentially surrendered a goal. Remember , in my original post, I said that the shooter has the advantage when you don't account for variables, such as the skill of the players involved. Those stats you present are only evidence of the fact that the average NHL goalie is far better at what he does than an average NHL forward or defenseman is better at what he does.

I totally agree. I hate the shoot out, and it's stupid for Howard to shoulder as much blame as he does. I've never watched the wire, but I've heard good things. I'm just one of the Many Greeks who live in the Detroit area. -

I agree with your sentiment, but you can't say the shoot out doesnt matter. Imagine if we were just .500 in shoot outs. -

I don't get it either. Bert used it pretty successfully. I guess no one on the team remembers. -
How is that so? The goalie has to account for numerous possibilities, only one of which is the right one. That's why goaltending is so hard. None of these guys are reacting to shots. Instead, they're acting preemptively based on what they think is going to happen. The goalie has to always be a half step ahead of the puck carrier. On shoot outs and breakaways, the shooter has the benefit of changing his approach based on what the goalie does.
-
The puck travels at a speed that is faster than the goalie's reaction. Everything a goalie does, especially on a breakaway/shoot out, is done in anticipation of what the goalie thinks the shooter is going to do.

What's the deal with this Bob Duff Guy? I don't think I'm familiar with his stuff. Is he usually more reputable? If he was just pulling this out of his ass, he would have to to know his credibility would take a hit. -
I agree. Also, without accounting for variables, shoot outs are much more difficult for the goalie. He has to 1. Challenge the shooter 2. Keep his head and chest square to the puck 3. Retreat while matching the shooter's speed 4. Anticipate from where he is going to shoot 5. Anticipate where he is going to shoot 6 anticipate when he is going to shoot. 7. Act accordingly. Then you have to account for variables: each player's skill, each player's mental fortitude, each team's recent shoot out success, each players recent shoot out success, handedness of the respective players, etc.

Theoretical "Expansion Draft" implications - Who to protect?
The Greek replied to DSM's topic in General
Has anyone checked out the wiki pages for the past expansion drafts? There were a lot of deals made where teams promised future considerations in exchange for not drafting certain unprotected players. This changes things. Conceivably, we could offer picks or ineligible players In exchange for a promise to draft player x. -

I would rather pretend that this isn't a possibility. God, I hate the idea of expansion. -
I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

This is a good thing for Maclean. It's clear to anyone with a brain-stem that this is blatant scapegoating. He'll have a job before next season, and it won't be with the sens.
