Well no s***... That's exactly why he should be given more of a chance. He was one of the top defenders in the SHL before he left and he will be a great defender here too once he settles into it but you need to be given some form of confidence from your coach.

Way to be nuanced... This kid has a lot more upside than any of the ones you mention.

Might be for the best. If he goes back gone he'll be a leader on his team and play 25minutes in every situation and he'll likely get some looks on the national team too.

Which isn't much for a guy who has played his entire career on big ice. Bäckman has quite a good resumé and if we can't even make room for him to get some security and learn in the AHL we are going to end up regretting it.

I don't know how much chance you've been given to "win a spot" when you've been benched for 7 out of your first 20-ish games.

Well I doubt he'd go anywhere else so that line isn't untrue. It says further up that he is very unhappy with the situation in Grand Rapids right now and I really wonder if there's anything to that.

Why are you comparing to a random shot throughout a game? Of course scoring on a penalty shot is going to be easier than that. Still doesn't change the fact that goalies save on average 2/3 penalty shots aka the have the advantage.

They prove that it's a lot easier to save a penalty shot than to score on one regardless of who is playing, that's how an average works. This isn't like soccer where the goalie has to pick a corner and guess. In hockey he can just stand still and still have a pretty good shot of being in the way.
