I think it was simply plugging abs in Homer's spot after he left. Abs was doing the same things getting in the dirty spots and Babs liked that dynamic and envisioned Abs for that role after Holmstrom left. I think last year and certainly at the start of this year abs is developing into quite the power forward on top of being a pain in the ass in front of the net.

I always liked the Hartford Whalers before they got moved. Every time I hear brass bonanza I think of some ol time hockey.

If you asked this question in 95 the answer would be the Wings no.1 hands down. This town was so cup crazy, with that ridiculous drought and how good that team was in the regular season it was gonna be our year. I want Stanley playing on the radio, wings flags from every car it was a beautiful thing till we got swept. Which made finally winning it in 97 all that much more gratifying and to this day I've never seen this town more excited for one team then for the Wings back then. Of course after winning it a few times fans got spoiled and Yzerman and the old school retiring left a disconnect for awhile. Now with the Lions and Tigers being good and still without a title for a long time that hunger has shifted to them and the Wings being good is just old hat now. Just a side note being in Chicago and watching this city after they won their first cup in ages paled in comparison to how crazy Detroit was in 97.

I think the context of the game had a lot to do with it as well. A game filled with fights previously and a blow out score and the team that's up disrespects the goalie and rubs their nose in the fact they're getting blown out. I can see easily why the kid went off the handle so I think the punishment originally given out was fair and criminal charges would be going way overboard.

Where is Art Regner when you need him, he would talk hockey all the time, even had his own show that just talked wings, ice time I do believe. Years ago though back when sports radio had a soul and wasn't as coperatate and nationally driven even from a local perspective.

Just watching the NBC broadcast and I haven't heard a word from Eddie in 10 minutes. Hilarious that his homerism is that obvious he can't even comment on the game anymore. What a tool.

I know Mickey is a homer byt Eddie makes it pretty well known with his compliments to the Hawks and once in a blue moon nod to a wings player. Pretty telling when we got up 3-1 and Eddie barely said a word, did you watch the same broadcast?

We played our worst today and it took the Hawks till the third to break through. Going to be a different game Saturday I promise you that, all we need is one win out of two here.

I'm old I remember being all excited to get to pee wees and start hitting. I don't remember anybody really getting hurt, but it makes sense. Luckily puberty was on its way for me and I was bigger which made it fun knocking kids on their ass. That being said it probably was a good idea to ban it till bantams. I remember playing with a kid in pee wees who would rock kids and had a ridiculous slap shot for a 12 year old. Comparing him with the other smaller kids was like a man among boys and I could see how kids could get hurt. At least in bantams more kids are on their way to puberty and can even the playing field a bit physically.

Anybody but Suter, I like that Subban kid, he had enough and threw down last night, can't see Lidstrom ever doing that but one's a HOFer and a perfect human, the other is just a pretty good defenseman.

I remember being quite comfortable at the Vipers games back in the day at the Palace, but I was like 4 rows back so probably not a good judge for seats farther away. I haven't been to the joe in like 10 years but it was showing it's age a bit back then. I hope they do get a new arena and soon. A franchise as prestigious as the Wings should not be playing in a substandard arena, it's not like they're playing in a classic rink like the montreal forum or maple leaf gardens, tear it down and build a new tradition where you can actually piss and $hit at your leisure.
