  1. The piece I read said Chicago had an insane asking price, something along the lines of a roster player, top prospect, and 1st round pick? Plus a 5.9m cap hit over the next two years.

I don't see it happening unless Franzen is gone for good and Nyquist is involved in the trade. We would be putting ourselves in the exact situation Chicago is in cap wise.

  2. i wouldnt say its done just yet, St Louis just signed ANDRÉ BENOÎT, so they are now in a postion of having to shed a D before season starts, now what was that Shattenkirk rumour again?

I'll have to dig up the source but I read last night Edmonton (they want everyone), Columbus, and Philly were in the mix. Of course it's a rumor so take it with a shaker of salt as I've also heard he wasn't on the market.

I really can't see Edmonton giving up their first round pick cause well...it's Edmonton.

  3. I have mixed feelings about Kindl. He'll make a bonehead turnover then come back and score 2 goals or set up a nifty play. As for Smith I think he's improved greatly and actually thought he was our best defenseman during that piss poor Boston series.

Defensemen get a little more room for error with me. Lidstrom was an anomaly and to say basing our blueliners on him is being unfair would be an understatement.

Love Green or hate him we have the last defenseman to break 30 goals wearing the Winged Wheel now.

  4. Man I just looked at their prospect pool it's seems a bit...empty Pittsburgh is really going for it while Malkin and Crosby are still in their primes. Doesn't surprise me at all that Lemieux wants to sell soon he knows the future isn't bright.

But man the Toronto Media just can't write a simple thank you Kessel good luck in Pittsburgh, no they've to bring up that he was ackward no he wasn't, he just doesn't like to talk to idiots like Feschuk, Simmons and all the others. Which is completely understandable I easily see him as a 40 + goalscorer now, Crosby will gift him the puck and he will use his unreal wristshot to finish it

Getting out of Toronto was the best thing he's ever done.

I feel that same negative spotlight will be on Babs when Toronto doesn't make the finals next year or wins the cup the year after. But he knew what he was getting into when he went to Toronto.

  6. I still call BS Edmonton has had all these #1 picks.

Has McDavid been placed on suicide watch yet?

Seriously Looch to LA I did not see that coming, will make the Kings/Ducks rivalry interesting.

  8. Repeated blows to the head can cause addiction problems, and depression...

So your biggest factor is caused by blows to the head, which does need to be studied more, but they're finding out a lot quicker than they expected, especially with all the brains they're being donated that have cte.

So its all the same homes.

The opioid painkillers themselves can cause depression and a complete change of character. I know I felt like crap on them after my surgeries, I would rather feel the pain. These guys are prone to broken bones because that's what they get paid for, I guess the million dollar question would be is it head trauma that's responsible for the downfall of the enforcer types or the lack of need for those types of players in the evolving NHL that lead to the spiraling out. When you go from making six figures to working normal everyday jobs that has to play a part in depression as well.

It's a sad situation nonetheless and I hope the studies pan out.

  9. The NHL isnt toning down on this because fans are "turned off". They are toning down on it because of research on head trauma, and lawsuits from former players.

I agree there have been cases of career ending head injuries and concussion related symptoms, not arguing that at all but why has it taken so long for the NHL to "tone it down" when it wasn't until 1979-1980 that players were actually required to wear a helmet?

Enforcers that have passed on didn't do so primarily because of head injuries, the media likes to place blame on that factor. The biggest majority battled drug and alcohol addiction most likely brought on by opiates and/or suicide.
