Won't happen. I wouldn't be surprised if he is taken in the 1st by Colorado. We have a 1st and 3rd. McCann or Barbeshev in the 1st and Alexis Pepin in the 3rd.
-
I think he played well too, but if he is going to be used in a 4th line role he should be getting top minutes in GR.
-
Oh, well then we need to draft McCann and then Pepin in the 3rd.
-
Athanasiou is a center so we can leave Goose at his natural position. Hopefully we draft McCann to shore up our future at center. McCann-Sheahan-Athanasiou-Helm is a nice group down the middle.

Let me start off by saying Babs is a great coach, and down the stretch the last two years has been nothing short of amazing. However some of his line combinations, and the amount of time certain players get is mind boggling to me.
-
Mantha has a shot, but unless we have world war one casualty rates again Andreas doesn't sniff call ups until the year following. Some over-ripening is coming his way, which can be a good thing ala nyquist..
-
That's not the Red Wings way. If they feel he isn't ready they won't play him. However there are those special players out there that can transition immediately.
-
Yup, which wouldn't be a terrible idea in this draft.
-
Fox has been signed by Vancouver. If we take Tuch in the first and don't make the playoffs then Kraskovsky or DeLeo would be good options in the 2nd.
-
Yes, and I see an aging core group. Which of our D prospects do you not find appealing? And you do realize that there are double the amount of forwards who play vs defenseman right??? Our prospect pool is much deeper at defense than forward. Again this is a terrible draft for defenseman. So you think it is a splendid idea to draft B level prospects because of position when there are still elite level guys on the board?
-
That makes absolutely no sense. You are drafting for 2018-2019 right now. Oullette, Sproul, and Marchenko will be with the big club. Kronner, Ericcson, Dekeyser, and Smith will be too. All the while Pavel will be in his last year, Zetty maybe retired, Weiss contract will be up, and Helm will be injured. So I would venture to say centers and pf may be a tad bit more important in a draft very shallow with defensemen. Outside of the top two there isn't much quality.

McCann is probably the only highly talented player around 15 that projects as a true center. He has a very nice shot and good speed...
-
If there is one thing our organization develops is skating. The problem with putting him down the middle is you waste his best potential as a PF...
-
Kapanen won't be available that late. He has a great pedigree, high compete level, already plays against men, and has great skills. Virtanen will probably be gone so I would like to see one of Tuch/Barbashev.
-
This was definitely a project type pick. There were more polished hockey players in the second but not many that contain his potential.
-
NJ picks at 30. They would pick ahead of us in the 2nd anyways or we won't have a pick due to leggy.
-
Haters gonna hate rich... One thing for sure now we have to draft a center in this draft. Who is ready to jump on the Virtanen or Tuch wagon?

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I'm not saying he would be a bust if he doesn't become a 30+ goal scorer, but it would be a tad disappointing. He isn't going to ever be a Datsyuk type he was drafted to score goals so I understand Richdg's point...
-
Yes he is short but 5-10, 200lbs is not small. He shows willingness to play in the dirty areas and be physical. I can't wait to see Teemu tee up a few on the power play.

Sheahan, Abby, and 1st+4th for Kesler. It puts Z&D back together when healthy and solidifies our center position for years to come with Jarnkrok and Kesler after the euro twins hang em up. -

Wrong thread but I agree. Not one of his goals were luck. -
I agree with you, but the fact that he is considered a top ten pick tells you how shallow this year is on D. There is more value in the forward position where we are likely to pick. I'm probably wrong as usual so he will develop into the next Shea Weber, and you can rub it in my face for the next 15 years lol...
-
Exactly why we should not take a defenseman in the 1st. This draft is shallow on Dman so any at our pick would be a reach, let alone an Ericsson clone. There are good prospects in later rounds to fill that role.
-
Buppy, let's say we pick 10 overall. More than one of Kapanen, Virtanen, Barbashev, Goldobin, Ehlers, or Vrana will be available. Not a single one is a can't miss prospect, but neither is Reinhardt, Ekblad, or Draistal. My point being is they all are extremely talented and could develop into stars. Not only top 5 picks make it into the HOF...
